Stability Ball and nausea

Hi Guys,

Let me just tell you all how entertaining I find all of you. You are bright sparks and always cheer me up. Anyway, I wanna know how many of you (if any) have this problem. When I do exercise on the stability ball, I feel like throwing up. I exercise in the morning and I do not eat before doing it But, I always have to put the brakes on it because of nausea. Am I alone?

By the looks of the responses you must be alone! I've never heard of anyone getting sea sick on a stability ball!!! Are you standing on it? Is that the only exercise that makes you nauseous? Silly question but - does your ball smell? (Some do you know!) Could that be setting you off? Or do you have trouble with your inner ears - ear or sinus infections? Just a few thoughts - perhaps you could get one of those seasickness/jet sickness bracelet thingies for your excursions with the ball!

No, you're not alone. I don't feel like throwing up, and I do use the ball regularly, but I occasionally get slightly nauseous when I wobble unexpectedly, or when I'm doing something over my head or roll up too quickly. I can't ride amusement park rides, either, if they go in a circle or move suddenly, unless I take dramamine, which makes it bearable. With dramamine, the nausea is temporary and goes away as soon as the ride stops. Otherwise, I'm sick the rest of the day. However, I'm not really interested in taking dramamine to use the exercise ball, and the nausea is very mild and temporary.

But no, just wanted you to know you're not the only one. :)

You are so not alone!!! I thought it was just me! I have the same problem when I use the stability ball for crunches or sit-ups! After doing a couple of them, I start to feel light-headed and nauseous! As I train in the morning, my trainer asked me whether I had eaten breakfast and how long beforehand. Because I do the right thing by eating brekkie about 2 hours before training, she couldn't explain it. I do have low blood pressure though (which sometimes causes me to feel light-headed and faint) so I think maybe that could have something to do with it. BTW, my trainer suggested that I adopt a more upright position (on the ball) and I found that it helped. Good luck with it! ;-)

You aren't alone. I get nauseous when I have to put my tummy on the stability ball. I can't do the preacher curls because my stomach gets really upset.

that happens to me too, but usually only if my head is hanging down the back. Recently I notice at the end of the stability ball core max workout I start to feel queasy so I make sure my head is higher up.

In addition to what everyone else has mentioned, is it possible you are holding your breath? Maybe that could be the problem. I exercise in the morning on an empty stomach and never had any problems when using the stability ball. Are you new to using the stability ball, as it takes awhile to get used to it.

Diana

I get nauseous at the THOUGHT of doing core work on the stability ball. Does that count?

Seriously though (why do I find it so hard to be serious?), I find that the supermans on the ball at the beginning of segment #2 of Coremax really hurt my tummy.

See you're not alone after all! Isn't it great to know people are over the world are standing in their exercise rooms way to early in the morning turning green looking at their ball!
