Spring into Summer check-in - 5/18

Good morning everyone, I have this nice sore in my chest after yesterday's PS. There is very little soreness left in my legs so today would be a light cardio day. Maybe a step workout without the step.

Wasn't too good with eating again yesterday. My son wanted to have a picnic in the living room and kept handing me his Chex Mix. "Eat!" he'd say, and if I pushed the food away, he'd look at me, confused. "BUT I'm SHARING, Mama," he'd say and because we've been working on the sharing bit for a long time, I ate and thanked him EVERY TIME he handed me something.

I DID enjoy that time with my son though, so no worries. I'll just start over.:) I know that one day he'll no longer want to hang out with me.

Have a great workout, ladies.

Pinky

How cute! How old is your son, pinky? My son is 4, and for some reason I am thinking that your son is around the same age, am I right?

Well, so far today I haven't worked out. Yesterday afternoon just got too crazy, so I didn't finish where I left off at. But today I should be doing something. I'm thinking that KPC would be a good one to do. Get me good and exhausted!
Well, that's all for now. You all have a great day!

Kathy

Hi everyone,

I'm in a grumpy mood this morning. Today's workout was Leaner Legs and I was cruising along feeling really good about how I was doing. It's close to end and I'm starting static lunges. About 4 reps into the set, my left quad totally pulls and I'm in instant pain. I paused the DVD and gave it a stretch and tried to walk it off. I thought it was all better so I started up again. WRONG!!!! The left quad was shot! I waited until Cathe and crew switched to the other leg and only did the same number of reps as I had done (which wasn't many). Interesting that I didn't feel any discomfort when doing the plie squats. I only really feel it when I go to put my left leg back, then it hurts a lot!

So I'm going to take some ibuprofen, give it some gentle massage, and may try some stretching/yoga this evening. Luckily I don't have any weighted leg work until next week.

Pinky, that was a great story you shared about your son. And when he becomes a teen, granted, he may not want to hang out with you, but he'll always love you and remember how amazing you are because of little moments like that.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone!
Pinky, my son says the same exact things. ...Sharing with you Mama...
I usually either hide the snack in my hand or say that this particular food doesn’t have enough vitamins in it for me to eat and help me to grow. My son is 4½ and not even 30 lbs. so, trying to get through to him what foods are good is important.

Sabine, I'm so sorry to hear you hurt your quad. How frustrating!! It's good you'll be taking it easy for a few days.

I'm on week three of my rotation. Yesterday I did Legs, PS and LL. I chose LL over SH this week since it's new and I've heard how many people think it's tough. Not knowing the workout, I kept the same weight as Cathe. I really liked the workout, but not as tough as SH to me. So, later that afternoon I went for a 3 mile run.

This morning was Chest; PS, SH and Step Intervals. I think I'll stick with this rotation for one more week since the following week we're on vacation ~ no sense starting something new. I have found I'm getting so much stronger! On Saturday I did 3 pull ups!:) I've never been able to do them before.

Have a great afternoon!
Susan C.M. :D

Kathy, you're right -- my son will turn 4 this August. It's the sharing part that clued you in, I bet.:)

Sabine, I'm sorry about your quad. I hope it gets better fast so you don't have to tweak your rotation. It's annoying when that happens. And thanks for the kind words.:)

I did the SJP step (no step) and hi/lo premix. Wow! I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the hi/lo part. I normally don't like hi/lo... I did the step segment a long time ago and have forgotten how it went, but I was able to follow it pretty well. And I realized, as I was doing it, that I could take out the impact and still enjoy it.:)

Where IS everyone else? Hope you ladies are doing well.

>Where IS everyone else? Hope you ladies are doing well.>Pinky

Let's see if the quoting thing worked.

Pinky, I know Brenda said she was crazed trying to get ready to leave for Vegas later this week. Is it Kim who is in Vegas right now? I know that Joy checks in here and there because she is doing so much yoga and not as much Cathe right now due to injury. Havent' heard from Elizabeth or Lisa in a while. I'm sure Tracy is still dealing with her move to Michigan. Don't know about Cindee or Judy. I know I'm forgetting people!

Hello ladies!

Haven't posted for a bit. Going to Vegas kinda threw me off my schedule, got back on track last week and felt very fatigued and achey over the weekend til yesterday. I think my meds might be off- have to call my endo. But I feel better today and going to do SS and Candlelight yoga in an hour or so. Had to spend part of the morning at the Social Security Admin to change my name to my married name (ONLY been married 12 yrs :)- other ladies were there for the same reason and we compared notes- and I was married the *longest* so I guess *I WON*...:) Now I can renew my license!

Sabine- sorry to hear that you hurt your quad. OUCH! Maybe a nice, hot bath will help. Take good care of yourself. I know Hawaii is in a few weeks so I know you're excited!

Pinky- loved your story about your son. YOU are such a great mom!

Kathy- hope you get to work out today. KPC makes me feel good and tired but *It's a GOOD tired...*, huh? :) When is your reunion again?

Susan- your workouts never cease to amaze me! How are you enjoying your new Cathe bundle?

I wrote a post a week ago and when I went to post it disappeared- grrr! And I was too tired to re-write it.

Hellos to Lisa, Cindee (whom I believe is in Mexico), Brenda (Vegas here she comes), Judy, Joy, Shywolf (hope I didn't miss anyone- if I did, I'm sorry and hello!)

Elizabeth

Elizabeth, my reunion is the 5th of June. You sure have a good memory. Are you in sales? You should be! Names are a very important thing to remember, plus, you remember specifics about the people, amazing!
Pinky, I remember you once a long while ago talking about your son, and I just remember thinking, hey that's how old my son is too. But I wasn't sure if I was remembering correctly or not. but you're right the sharing thing helped too! I couldn't emagine trying to work on that with a 10 year old, or a 1 year old. So, yeah, that did help.:D

Well, in about 20 min I'm off to do some KPC. I'll beat the crap out of the air in my living room! ha, ha!

Kathy

Hi everyone~

Elizabeth, how was Vegas? Anything special I should know before we leave? Its been a quite a few years since we've been there.

Still trying to get a workout in today- not sure what I'll do since the kids are home from school and babies are awake. I'll have to improvise.

Sabine, take it easy and rest for a few days. Hope you start to feel better soon- that hurts!

Still doing laundry and trying to pack, making lists for the kids when we leave and just updated my will (that was depressing).

Hope all is well- sounds like you're all having really good workouts!

Brenda

Brenda-

Vegas was WONDERFUL! And, girl, you're staying at such a fabulous hotel! The weather is fairly hot- about the mid-80's. Pack plenty of sunblock! The Bellagio has the Monet exhibit- oh, it was SO beautiful! We also checked out the Magic Garden and Dolphin Habitat (where Siegfried and Roy performed)- the White Tiger was gorgeous. The Bellagio has a wonderful buffet- cuisines from all over. Noodles restaurant (in the hotel) was good also. Also check out the water fountain show at I believe Caesar's Palace- it's in time to music and it's breathtaking! Have a really wonderful time, Brenda, with your friends. Also glad to hear your party went well!

Kathy- thanks for the compliment!:) I worked for AMEX and XEROX many moons ago doing sales and customer relations (also in our business- martial arts academy). Teaching students gave me excellent practice at remembering names and the events in their lives. Know you're excited about your reunion. I also know you're going to look and feel fabulous!:)

Well, going to workout now. Have a great evening everyone!

Elizabeth

Hello! Hello! I haven't been writing, but I've check almost every day. Glad to see this checkin going so well.
Sabine~ I'm sorry to hear about your Quad pain. Will stretching, rest, ice and Ibuprofin or Naproxen help? I hope so!

I started the "Cathe's May Rotation" on Sunday. I will try to get 6 days in per week with this rotation, but it will be a challenge. I'm starting my week on Sunday to see if I can do it. Normally I start on Monday and take weekends off. Today for stretching I did first 2 sections of circuit max cardio only to get warm and then I tried a Pilates workout. I was disapointed. The instructor had an annoying voice and the set was boring. Karen Voight's Yoga Sculpt will have to suffice for now. I will need to stretch extra later tonight.

Anyhoot~ it was nice revisiting the PH workout yesterday. It always gets me challenged. I finish everything, but with effort. Does anyone have favorite pilates instructor to recommend?

BTW we have a new kitty; her name is "Bella Gato" and we adore her. She doesn't know what to make of exercise time!

Wow! There you all are...

Susan, don't worry about your son's weight too much. I'm sure you're feeding him all the right things. I know of kids who grew very slowly (weight- and height-wise) in their childhood but who just bloomed and shot up and out in their adolescence. Weight-wise, my son is around 30th percentile, but height-wise... Well, he's kinda low on the charts. My husband and I aren't very tall people so I don't expect my boy to be 6 feet tall. It does worry me sometimes though. The small ones are easy prey for bullies.

Elizabeth, it's great to hear from you again. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. Hmmm... I've been aching to take the hyphenation out of my current name and revert to the name my parents gave me when I was born. Is that something I CAN do, given that I am still married?

Brenda, take it easy on the packing. I know how stressful that can be. Do your kids bike? On days when I don't or can't do cardio, I take a walk with my son as he pedals around the neighborhood on his tricycle. We usually stay out for about 30 minutes, so it's a great mini-workout for both of us.

Judy, I just got YogaSculpt. I haven't tried it yet, but now that I see you use it, I'm no longer that unsure about my purchase. I love cats, but don't have one since my hubby doesn't like them. And we all suffer from terrible allergies. So give Pretty Cat a kiss for me.:)

Pinky

You know, it's either all or nothing for me today!...;)

Pinky- I think you probably could as long as you have an ID with your given name (eg birth certificate). It's really good to talk to you, too. I've missed you!

Judy- Bella Gato. It's SO beautiful as is the namesake I am sure. Beautiful Cat. We have three- and they're all my babies and have us wrapped around their furry little paws. Enjoy her and many years of health and happiness!

Susan- sorry I missed your post about your son. I agree with Pinky, please don't worry too much about your son's weight. You're a wonderful mom who provides loves and provides well for her child. I read some studies that kids at that age know intuitively when they need to eat more/less to keep healthy.

Well, got to feed my zoo then it's off to do some yoga (did SS today). I think I'm going to start a PS rotation next week. Good evening all!:)

Elizabeth

Hi Guy;
Sorry I haven't been around. Dealing with a still sick kiddo here now it's ear infections. I have not worked out since last week due to lack of sleep, running to the doctor's for appt and such.

Let's see what tommorrow brings.
Sabine I hope you feel better.
Hellos to all
