Spring into Summer - 5/5

Cathlete
Let me be the first to check-in again. My insomnia kicked in and I've been sleepless since 2 a.m. This isn't jet lag anymore. This is "The Beast", which I've had to deal with since adolescence.

Anyway, I'm nicely sore from PS-upper body and I still have a faint sore in my legs. So this makes today a rest day. I'll probably do some yoga for my back as my back feels tight from those barbell rows.

I've been scanning the boards and am saddened to see so much negativity in the forum. Nasty posts. I had a bad experience with those before. I learned early on to turn the other cheek and just rely on karma AND the fact that the members of this forum are intelligent enough to sort out the sincere folks from the fakes. Still, I made sure to turn everything off. I just don't understand how someone can say negative things and defend them, as though no feelings were hurt and no boundaries were crossed. But then again, the internet makes it easy for people to hide behind personas.

Off the soapbox now. I have a good life. There have always been, fortunately, many blessings for me to count, the fruits of silence being one of them.

Pinky

Just saying hello...

Pinky, I agree with you. I don't understand why people feel that they have the right to be nasty here, and especially send vulgar or abusive PMs. I guess no one taught them that to earn respect you have to show it. I realize it's not always easy, goodness knows that, for instance, there are times that I find it a lot easier to yell at my kids than to deal with them in a quiet, respectful way, but if I don't make that effort, they're not going to learn that lesson.

Anyway, still under the weather. I'll keep checking in though, when I have a chance. I hope everyone else is well today.

Hello Pinky!
I had insomnia for about 2 years before I went to the doctor about it. I was feeling sick from not sleeping. He gave me Ambien. It really, really helped a lot. I used it every night for about 2 weeks, then just here and there for the next couple of months. I've been fine ever since (year and half ago). My friend said it was psychological. I think he was right after all. (but that's another story).

I changed my mind from doing IMAX2 blasts last night and did Bodymax (just not the weights).

This morning was Back and Abs: I did PS,SH,and MIS.
Abs, MIS,BM and SH.

I'm not sure if I'll do any cardio tonight or not.

Yeah, I saw those posts of negativity too. It probably puts Cathe is situation where it's tough to make everyone satisfied. The Open Discussion is just that. If you have no input on the thread, move on. Personally I think there should be more fitness related topics.

I'm lucky too. I have so many blessings, great family, friends and health. :)

Have a great day, and I'll check back to see what everyone else is up to today.
Susan C.M.

Good morning everyone~

Kathy-- welcome! We'd love to have another newcomer in the group!
When's your reunion?

Pinky, have you heard from the dr. yet? Thinking about you- I'm sure everything will be fine. Sorry to hear the beast is back. Have you tried Ambien? I think if I had insomnia I'd lose my mind- the only few times I've had it I've felt really insane lying in bed watching the clock, it was absolute hell. Hope it can go away soon.

Susan, sounds like a killer workout (PS,SH,MIS,BM,SH all together for back/abs?) Good for you!

CinDee, so much for doing HIIT twice a day- I did it yesterday a.m. along with ME shoulders & abs, but the afternoon was so nice I stayed outside and gardened while the kids slept/played. I just don't know if I have the dedication I thought I did (plus its so nice to have the workout over for the day:) )

I'm going to do S&H Legs, Chest/Back right now- my clothes are fitting nicely and I'm going to (deep breath) try on bikinis this afternoon. I tried quickly last week but I was so bloated and my 3 year old was w/me trying to crawl under the dressing rooms - very bad combination.

I've been taking the new fiber tablets- has anyone tried these? It says it may cause gas/bloating (duh)and I'm wondering if anyone else has found this? If that's the case, forget it- I couldn't suck in my stomach for 2 days.

Sabine, Vegas is in 15 DAYS!! I'm not sure what the future holds for working out- my sitter has to fly to Seattle for a funeral and my dad/his wife are coming next Sat for the Christening through the week to watch the kids... that can either be really good or really bad for my workouts.

(also, shins- while sitting, place the stability ball on your feet and lift it w/resistance on your toes like in one of Cathe's videos- hth)

Shywolf, your gift sounds wonderful. You could start an enterprise!

Regarding the posts, I actually only really check in here to our thread anymore. I don't have time to get wrapped up in another drama on the site. I know & trust all of you and we support each other-
what else would I need?
:)

Mother's day, right around the corner... who's doing what?

Hope you all have a great day-

Brenda

Hi again everybody,

Lisa, I hope you feel better soon. Mother's Day is very near. I'd wish for you to enjoy it.:)

Susan and Brenda, thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if Ambien has any side effects? I'm currently taking OTC Unisom. I don't take it unless I feel I really have to, e.g., not having slept for two nights in a row. It's because of this darn insomnia that I get to read more posts in the forum than I care to. I think snm got rid of two more threads after the one that was deleted a few days back. Thank goodness. Now we can go back to talking about fitness. (Or our lack thereof?:7 )

For Mother's Day we're driving to Houston to see our best friends. I really wasn't bent on going after just having arrived from a long journey, so my husband had no choice but spill the beans. He and his best friend have been planning a surprise for me and the best friend's wife for Mother's Day. So now I keep asking my hubby what I'm gonna get. 20 questions, like, What color is it? Is it big or small? Is it something to wear? Does it have a smell? Is it related to my computer graphics gadgets? I've coached my son to tell his dad: Mama wants jewelry for Mother's Day. Gemstones on white gold or sterling silver, at least.}(

Hope all you moms on this thread get stuff on your wish list.

I hate surprises.:(

Later,
Pinky

Good Morning everyone,

First, official check in business. Yesterday late afternoon did Evening Stress Release yoga and felt WONDERFUL afterward. Just so stretched out and relaxed. I could have gone to sleep right then and there (just before 6 pm) but managed to stay up and watch American Idol and 24. This morning was CIA 2303 Step It Strong with Keli Roberts. While the step sections are pretty easy, she does some really challenging weight work and the ab section was nothing to sneeze at! Also, something about Keli's accent makes me smile!

Now, other stuff!

The negative threads- I was very disappointed. And with all parties. I was tempted at many points to post something and then decided against it. It would have been an exercise in futility and would have only fanned things further when what needed to happen was for everyone to take a HUGE step back. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail should this happen again (and inevitably it will:-( ).

Bikinis- Good luck with the bikinis Brenda. Yes I have heard of fiber supplements causing gas and bloating so be sure you haven't taken any before trying on. With all the hard work you've been putting in, I'm sure you're going to look awesome! Two weeks to go! WHOO HOO!!!!

Sleeplessness- Pinky, I agree with the others who have suggested that maybe you talk to your doctor about a possible prescription sleep aid. When I was getting ready to take my oral licensing exam the first time I was wreck and was having insomnia. I asked my doctor for something and I took it just for a couple of weeks. I have refills available for emergencies only but rarely need it. I think side effects depend on what is prescribed for you. I think the big key is to not take them for too long as then they will cease to be effective.

Susan- Great workouts you're putting together. I'm kind of shuddering just thinking about them (but I bet you feel so strong afterward).

Welcome Kathy!!!!

That's all folks!

Well, yesterday I did do Pyramid upper, but ran out of time after the shoulders, so I'll do tri's and bi's this afternoon after i do some cardio. I'm not sure what I want to do just yet as far as cardio goes. Thinking maybe some KPC may be in order though!:) I may just brace Meaner, I mean, Leaner legs if I'm feeling really frisky, we'll see.
Pinky that is so hard to have insomnia, I'm sorry to hear that is happening to you and hope that you get help from the dr soon.
As for the negative threads, I'm at a loss! I try to just stay out of them. I don't know why people have to be so cruel to each other, but I guess you get a very large mix of personalities in here and you will get arguing. I think though that there needs to be more threads on fitness as well, and maybe healthy diets too. Just a thought.
Well, off I go, talk to you all later! Have a great day!

Kathy

Hello everybody,
I dropped in to let you know that I do come here from time to time. I don't really have anything to contribute to the check-in. I did try to do something other than yoga yesterday and it really wasn't fun and didn't feel good (it really was not very hard compared to what I was doing just a few months ago)

Pinky - about not sleeping - just one suggestion. Maybe you could try a short yoga workout in the evening. It might help you sleep. The one (I'm pretty certain) that Sabine was referring to called Stress Release Yoga is only about 20 minutes long and she does all or most of the poses in a modified form. I converted to dvd recently and I still have the vhs for this one, which I'd be happy to send you if you still are vhs capable (equipment wise) You probably do need a mat or other non-skid surface. You can use lots of things for a block (like a shoebox) and a belt will work for a strap. Let me know.

Hello fellow Spring-into-Summer posters

I am in week #2 of S&H spread over five days with 4 cardios. It is an enjoyable rotation so far. Today, wednesday, is legs and shoulders. I don't prefer S&H legs so I'll sub in either PS or L&G or even TS#5. Yesterday I added floor legs from PLB to Back and plank S&H so I'll stick with standing legs only today.

Unrelated (to our topic) comments:

I echo the feeling of those of us on this thread reguarding the negative posts. I don't even read them anymore. In fact ther isn't much I read on the open discusson except this thread and an occcaisional helpful title.

Pinky- I hope you can be rid of the beast ASAP!
Susan- your workouts look great; how long do they take?
Brenda- I agree with you about having the workout "done" for the day. It is early afternoon and I have been delayed today ,but will still get to it!
Shy wolf- did you see my e-mail with my S&H rotation?

Hello everyone!

Well, we got back from Vegas Monday afternoon (took the red-eye- yikes!:)). We had such a great time. We did ALOT of walking, toured different casinos, ate some great food, did some gambling (DH played poker and I did slots- I came out even, hubby- lost a bit but he started to hit his stride just before we had to leave. Just before we came back, I scheduled us for a spa treatment- massges, sauna, hot tub and steam room- it was heavenly! We've had some jet-lag (nothing, I'm sure, comparable to yours Pinky!) that I've been sleeping on and off or the last two days. Was planning on working out this week but I'll see- yoga sounds wonderful but I'm really itching to get back onto my weights and cardio- we'll see.

Pinky- glad to see you're back. I'm sorry to hear of your insomnia- been there, done that and it isn't any fun at all! Because of my hypo I get insomnia at times so I've been taking sleep aid called *Revitalizing Sleep Formula* (formulated by a physician)- I get it online from iherb.com. It came highly recommended by the site owner/author Mary Shomon. It helps me to sleep and I feel wonderful in the morning- not groggy. I also hope the matter with the urine comes back fine- and I agree, travelling can really affect your hormones and cycles. I'm sending you some healing thoughts and a cyber-hug. Take good care, OK?

Brenda- Vegas was a blast. We went to the Bellagio to see the Monet exhibit (the acutal paintings are on loan from Boston) and the hotel is SO fantastic! The conservatory is beautiful- they have a butterfly exhibit, beautiful flowers and motifs inpsired by Monet's paintings, an arch made from thin streams of water from one side of the path to the other that you can walk under and the conservatory was so warm, bright and inviting. They have a cafe overlooking the conservatory- I would check it out. I would also wear comfortable shoes- your feet will thank you for it!:) Have a wonderful time with your friends. It was pretty hot there so I would pack summery clothes, a jacket for at night. Good luck with bikini shopping- I'm sure you'll find some nice ones. BTW, we;ve decided that next year we're staying at the Bellagio...;) It's so central to many things and it's beautiful!!

Lisa- hope you feel better soon. Allergies can be such a pain!

Sabine- hope your shins feel better. Someone here posted about Cathe's ball exercise in PP- it helps me with that.

Cindee- congrats to your dad on his retirement! His party must have been a blast and all of you had a great time, I'm sure. And yes, preparing for a party DOES count for exercise and calorie-burning!:)

I've been reading the post over the last few days and I too am sorry to see the downturn some threads have taken. I don't know the whole story but I am sorry that some people have gotten hurt by this. I too have many blessings and I strive to focus on those instead of the negative... Anyway, hope everyone is well. I'm getting a bit tired again so I'm going to sign off.

Big Hi-yas! to Susan, Shywolf, Judy, Kim, Joy, Tracy and Kathy (and welcome!:)).

Elizabeth

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Elizabeth, it sounds like you guys had a much deserved fun vacation. I'm jealous!;)
Oh, I forgot to say that my reunion is the first weekend in June. I don't remember the date right off hand. I'd have to do look. I think i'ts because of all the reunion movies that are out there I'm getting nervous to see some old friends, and maybe not much friends, but acquaintences(sp?). I seemed to get along with everyone at school, I can only think of one person that I would never really care to see again. But there is always one, right? But the reunion sure is bringin up old memories, ah good times... And some maybe not so much, ha, ha!
Ok, really, I should get going here. But once again thank you for the warm welcomes to your thread.

Kathy

Hello, back again!
Brenda, good luck looking for a bikini!! I know what fun it can be shopping for one of those with a three year old - haha. I don’t know what I'll be doing for Mother's Day. Maybe I'll go out to dinner.

Pinky, there were no side effects at all with Ambien. None! I had tried OTC's and I would be groggy the next day. This worked wonders for me.

Judy, I plan to workout for 80 min. This week I'm concentrating on one body part a day w/ abs and maybe cardio at night 3-4 times. PS is 10 min, SH 24 min, MIS 10 (?), then do some abs.

Sabine, I've never done yoga before, but you're making me want to try it!

Elizabeth, glad to hear you had a good trip in Vegas.

What's going on that it seems you guys are all going there? I might be in July for business.

Hello to Joy and everyone else.
Susan C.M.

Good afternoon! Today will be KPC or Spinervals. I'm leaning toward KPC and Spinervals this weekend (or and actual outdoors bike ride if it's not raining). Yesterday ME was tough...I hadn't done that one in a while and I tried to go as heavy as I possible could (e.g. 50 lbs. for legs vs. the 40 lb.s that Cathe uses) just to get the most out of it. However, that really made HIIT afterwards HARD! Needless to say I only did about half of the HIIT that I planned to do!

Pinky, I hope you find a solution to your insomnia. Sounds like a lot of good advice out there from others who've dealt with it, too. And I agree about the negative posting atmosphere. It's best to just stay out of it.

Susan, your back workout sounds brutal! What exactly are you doing and what kind of results are you seeing (can you tell I'll be making mental notes for a future rotation?;) )

Brenda, gardening counts for something...but probably not HIIT! Ha! Have fun biking shopping. I'm down to single digits...9 days! Unbelievable!

Elizabeth, thanks for the nice words about my dad's retirement. I'll make sure to tell him, but he'll probably wonder who in the world I talk to...and I'll tell him luv2befit!

Welcome Kathy! Have fun at your reunion. DH and I graduated together and I just remember walking in to a sea of faces that looked familiar but names escaped me! After someone came up to me and said, "What's your name again?" I felt a lot better
:7 Soon enough, though, we were comfy and having a great time. Now I'm looking forward to my 20th in a few years!

Hey to everyone I missed...laundry calls!
