I have been getting lots of things done around the house now that spring is here. One of the things I have been slowly doing is cleaning out the storage room in my garage.
I have several large storage boxes of toys, mainly dolls and stuffed animals, from my childhood. My Mom made me take them when I moved out some 19 years ago, and they've been in storage ever since.
I had forgotten all the things in those boxes. It was like a treasure trove of memories of my Mom and my Grandmothers. The Raggedy Ann and Andy my Mom made me. All the Barbie clothes my Grandma hand-sewed for me. All the yarn animals my Grams made me. Also all the stuffed Garfields they bought me over the years (I was an avid collector).
Some of these are falling apart and I had to discard, but some are still in good shape, so I'm going to try to give them to Toys for Tots.
I hate to have to throw out or give away these items, but I'm 42 and have no children. I've asked all my friends if they want them for their grandchildren, but most of them already have more toys than they need. I'm hoping that they will go on to brighten the lives of other children, and I think Toys for Tots would be a great way to do this.
Mostly, I am humbled by the amount of love these women in my life have shown me. All the little things they did for me. The sheer amount of time; especially from my Mom. I wish my Grandma and Grams where still here. I hope my Mom is around for many years to come.
I can do nothing more than behave in a way that would make me worthy of their love. That is my goal in life.
