splitting up workouts

anyone split there workouts up into one in the morning and one at night? it seems like this would be easy to do. instead of getting up over an hour earlier, i would only have to get up 30 min earlier and do my cardio and then when i get home i could do a 30 minute strength routine. this seems like it would stimulate my metabolism 2 times a day instead of one. has anyone ever done this?

I have thought about it many times but it just seems like too much trouble TBH. By the time I get changed, pull out equipment, work out, clean up, shower, etc. a lot of time has gone by no matter how short the work out and to have to do that twice in a day? Not for me personally....Give it a shot though if you think you might like it and let us know how it goes! There are people out there that do it and swear by it!

During the week I always split them up - cardio in the morning before work and strenght training after work. I tend to like to do a long cardio workout so would have to get up at 3:30 in the morning to get it all in before work! Plus I feel like I'm not as wiped out for strength training if I give myself some recovery time and do it later.

The last month I've been doing this and I love it! With 3 kids underfoot I don't have time to hit everything at once and this has been working amazingly well!

I do Classical Stretch in the mid-morning, weights in the afternoon, and cardio at night.

I have been doing double work-outs regularly for oh, 20 years? I don't do short ones, usually an hour a piece, but it is a way to get cardio and weights in on the same day, without killing yourself. I prefer weights in the morning, but cardio not so much, like to be more awake for that, so it works to do the weight work in the morning, and then later in the day the cardio. It gives me a bit more recovery time than doing them back to back.

Cardio in the a.m., weights in the p.m. -- but I don't do weights everyday, so those afternoons off seem like a real treat! :)

yes i do. its a dread to get a longer workout in the morning especially with the kid trying to get ready. so i do something in the morning and something in the afternoon at the gym. changes from day to day but at least 3 days i am for at the gym usually to run and do some pull-ups and other exercises that i can't readily do at home.

I use the morning to hike with my dogs at a brisk pace (offleash in the woods so there is no stop/start), and throw in some mobility work so as to start the day with a little movement. It's not a focused workout, more general fitness. I save the evening for my daily training (strength, cardio, or focused mobility work). Personally I don't find it beneficial to do both intense cardio and intense strength training on the same day - not enough recovery time between bouts for my body.

i too split up. too hard to fit eevrything in in the early am. i usually do cardio in the morning (i like to do that on an empty stomach) and weights or yoga or core work in the afternoon. it is hard to juggle sometimes, in which case i need to choose. not sure if it benefits my metabolism - if i workout too hard in the afternoon, i get totally ravenous and don't make the best choices always:confused:

Yep - cardio in the morning and weights at night. I don't like to rush through lifting if I am running late in the morning. The cardio wakes me up so that I am plenty annoying for my morning meetings at work. :)
