Spin Bike?

I've noticed Spin bikes are starting to pop up in non fitness stores like Walmart and Canadian Tire. Anybody have any of the "more affordable" spin bikes? Are they any good?

Wishing they could be--expecting that they're not. Thanks for posting this, as I'll be interested in the replies.

Hi there!
I purchased the Spinner Sport Spinning Cycle from WalMart a few months ago for $449.00 ($485 with S and H ). It is the exact bike that is sold on the official Spinning site for $500 (not including S and H), so not much difference in price. But it is an excellent spin bike for the money. Of course it is not heavy duty like the ones at the gym, but works great for just me. I have been spinning for years, so I am not a novice and do know what I like in a spin bike. This one is smooth, stops quickly and is comfortable to sit on. It is also light and easy to move around, which was important for me since I use the room for STS and need to move the spin bike into the hallway when I'm doing my STS work outs. There are no fancy gadgets, but not needed as far as I am concerned. Hope this helps.

Hello!
I bought this bike about 2 months ago. http://www.amazon.com/ProForm-290-Indoor-Cycle-Trainer/dp/B002ZWWFGS I love it! I am familiar with spin class spin bikes and this one delivers just about all you could want. I don't think spin bikes should have anything "electronic" on it, so this one was perfect for me. It's easy to move from room to room, the handle bars do not wobble-I was concered after reading some reviews. My husband put it together in less than 1 hour.

Drawbacks: the seat is not that comfortable (but I've never met a spin bike that had a comfy seat:p). I bought a gel seat cover and it's working like a charm. The pedal cages are plastic-y feeling because they are mostly plastic. They work okay but if you want some nicer you'll have to get them at a bike store. Also, if you have those spin shoes with clips, this bike won't accommodate them, but the pedals are easily replacable. It's a very smooth ride and you can easily transition from saddle to standing. It's fairly quiet too. Not at all squeaky. When I have the tv on or am listening to my iPod, I can't hear the bike at all. The only other thing is that if you are short, I'm 5' 3 & 3/4:p, the handle bars may be too far from the seat- ie you'd be bent forward the entired ride. I have the seat all the way forward and I'm just tall enough/have enough arm length for it to work.

For the price, it's hard to beat, IMHO.

HTH!
