so those of you who eat clean - "junk" makes you sick?

Boybert

Cathlete
I've seen a bunch of people on here say this. While I'd rather eat healthy 95% of the time (and feel better for it), I have no problems eating a cookie or having ice cream maybe once or twice a week. Maybe I need the bug where grease or sugar makes me sick but NOPE ;). Now I can't eat a TON of it, or that will make me feel like crap, but a serving - oh yeah. I just sort of wondered if some of you haven't eaten "junk" in years or something that it is like this for you.

White bread makes me want to vomit (all pasty in my mouth) even that supposedly "whole grain" Baker's Inn bread is gross in that way.

Too much salt is unappealing to me, but I can quickly get used to it again.

Too much grease (fries, more than a few Fritos) has the same effect, but I can get used to it quickly as well.

Artificial foods are something I can no longer stand the taste of (colas, etc.). I used to be a Pepsi addict (!) as a teen, but after I gave it up for a few months, and had some again, it tasted SO artificial, strangely sweet, and chemically.

RE: so those of you who eat clean -

Fast food fries taste terrible to me anymore, but I still like the taste of them baked in the oven and won't make me sick if they are baked. Any kind of food cooked in grease makes me sick.

I did get sick to my stomach when I had movie popcorn (lots of butter), but I can have a handful and I am fine.

Cakes and pies are just too sweet tasting for me anymore.

I did eat some peanut m&m's a few weeks ago and had to just eat the peanuts inside and spit out the chocolate...too sweet.

I don't like much salt either.

There is a difference in the way fries taste now that I've adjusted my eating habits. I can taste the grease more, but I STILL eat some. Not the whole serving, just a few.

Junk I love -- Cheetos, cheesecake, Snickers bars, oatmeal raisin cookies, Cinnabon -- they all still taste great.:9 I just avoid them as much as I can. Doesn't mean I don't eat them at all. Life's not complete without my junk. Especially with the holidays coming up.:)

UNFORTUNATELY anything with alot of sugar gives me terrible stomach cramps now and chocolate especiallyx( i still eat it on occasion but i pay. this never happend until my system got used to eating clean. i used to POUR salt on everything, but gradually, my tastebuds have changed since i quit smoking. i hardly add any now. things with white flour also don't agree with me much anymore. it's really strange. i still get "cravings" for junk food that i used to love. i'll eat a bite and it's dissapointing. just tasted differnet. i guess this is a good thing. it bums me out that cheating isn't fun anymore though;-)

I'm with you, Debbie. As long as I keep it at a small portion, I'm ok with my stomach. But I have noticed that my tastes have changed considerably; I used to love ice cream, but now it tastes too rich or something. Soft serve, or sugar-free, fat-free is ok for me.

If I have real sugar in something, like say, a cookie, I get to feeling pretty weird after....dizzy, and like I want to pass out! Go figure. I haven't had any kind of candy bars in 3 years, and now I can honestly say I don't miss that. (That is not to say I haven't had any candy....had some candy corns the other day...put me right to sleep!)

Haven't had any fast food for over three years, now, either. I probably never will again. It didn't make me sick, but it did trigger me to overeat because I was a "junk food junkie".

But as far as "it makes me sick".....nope! Wish it did, then maybe I would crave celery!:9

i can only eat so much but then i get nausea and sometimes craps. i can't eat fried chicken but i do enjoy french fries every blue moon.the same with "white" foods and full fat ice cream(i enjoy frozen yogurt or a sugar free option). chocolate is another story LOL but i am trying to keep that in check. i can eat triple the servings and still want more :)

Anything storebought tastes disgusting (all those chemicals, preservatives and who knows what other crap), but I can handle most anything homemade in small amounts like you. Anything fried like potato chips, or like Charlotte said fast food fries, makes me feel sick and leaves a very nasty coating in my mouth. I still love chocolate.

Hi All!

I find that it's not so much that those foods make me sick as that I don't enjoy them as much. This goes for processed foods really. Homemade goodies like cookies or cake are fine.

Also, I would say more that it is party foods/situations that make me queasy: you know how it happens! Couple glasses of wine, then you start picking at the chips and dip and the cheese and crackers...I always end up with the mollygrubs after those events.

Nope, unfortunately junk doesn't make me sick! I still LOVE it but fight tooth and nail NOT to eat it!

RE: so those of you who eat clean -

Eating out is what gets me. I hardly ever do it because I don't enjoy it. But if I eat lunch out, I am usually too stuffed to eat dinner, and if I eat dinner out, I'm too stuffed to sleep. There's something about the food - additives? Fillers? - that makes it sit like a rock in my stomach.

I can handle a candy bar every once in a while but don't really enjoy them. They're for emergency situations only - very bad day at work or something similar. Other sweets are fine, as long as I keep them in moderation. Too many over, say a week or so, and I start feeling crappy and my face breaks out.

Processed foods are just plain icky.

RE: so those of you who eat clean -

I tend to get stomach cramps and gas when I eat too much sugar such as in cake or cookies (and believe it or not, I still have to have some at times but get over it quickly enough). I went a couple of years without sugar and then had a chocolate bar and it felt horrible in my mouth. I still love ice cream but usually like the low fat and low sugar type more. I don't touch "grease" and it was very easy for me to give up. The salt was hard at first but it has been at least a decade or so so I am okay with it (though people who eat at my house do tend to notice, LOL, that I forget to salt food when cooking).

I still find that clean eating is hard to maintain but I actually now miss it when I deviate.

If I eat a hot dog , I will keep burping for 12 hours. Greasy meat foods upset my stomach, but I have no problem with sweets. Marnie

I had cake at a wedding this past Saturday and it was the first time I had eaten sweets in at least a few months. I had stomach cramps the whole next day. Next time someone offers me cake, I think I'll pass.

I like McCain's fries (the only ones in the store that don't have partially hydrogenated oils, like Oreida. And the section devoted to them is very small...dwarfed by the huge selection of Oreida). They aren't too greasy once they are baked and I let them sit on some paper towels for a while before eating.

Just thinking of the last time I ate fast-food fries (over a year ago)...yuk!

I buy McCains as well. They truly are the best. My grocery store also carries a brand called "Alexia" and they put out a frozen french fry made with yukon gold potatoes. They're pretty good too but don't quite have the flavor and crunch of McCains.

RE: so those of you who eat clean -

I can knock off chocolate cake with no problems, thank goodness but do it very infrequently. I stick to small portions of dark chocolate daily, will knosh on a chip or two but otherwise stick with nutrient dense food, grains in particular because junk has no appeal and doesn't tastes horrible to me now. Gives me the heebie jeebies. :) I have also notice that when eating out, which is also infrequent and I indulge myslf a little, the food tastes too salty most of the time. There are several resturants I've scratched from my list for that reason. That and the oiliness factor. Eating clean can ruin you for all but eating clean and the occasional piece of chocolate cake. :)
