Okay, I am BUMMING bigtime. Guess who ran her little baby toe into the leg of her beloved Body By Jake Thigh Rocker this morning?? We were just on our way out the door to the Ohio State Fair when I did it! It hurt like the dickens and I jumped all over the room, but it felt a bit better by the time we all got into the car. By the time we got down there, I was hardly able to stand on it. Like a goof, I refused a wheelchair offer and LIMPED around the fair for about 6 hours!!! I KNOW, STUPID! I didn't want to ruin everyone's fun. I actually think it's broken! :-( Solid back & blue! Can anone give me an esitmate on what I am talking time-wise before I'll be doing my NORMAL jumping around? Not sure what I am going to do as I still have 2 weeks of Summer classes to teach, plus a workshop tomorrow night to teach my instructors the new routines. Someone please tell me that when I get out of bed tomorrow it will be all better!!!:) Sorry, I needed to cry to someone. Thanks for any tips!

P.S.Kennedy LOVED the pigs and the horses!! Fun, fun day for her.

My office co-worker did the exact same thing (not on a B&TR, however), but she was fine right away. Your other toe can act as a splint. She is out running with her dawg twice a day, so I hope that's happy news for you.

I hope you still love your Jake machine!

Oh Debbie, I'm so sorry you hurt yourself. Man I hate that stubbed toe pain. And sounds like yours was much worse than average. I would definitely get it checked to see if it's broken since it's black and blue. Sorry I can't help. Hope you don't have to miss any aerobics classes. But don't forget to take care of #1!!!

OOWWWIEE!!!!

You poor thing! I know your little toe must feel like it is going to fall off! My mom caught her toe on a chair last weekend & the whole left side of her left foot was purple! It stinks because there's nothing you can do for a broke toe & they break so easily. Hope you feel better soon & aren't missing too many workouts because of it!

Deborah

Hi Debbie, I also think I have broke my little toes, at separate times of course. I never went to the doctor for either one as I believe all they will do is splint it to the toe next to it. I have to admit I did continue to exercise afterwards. It was very painful putting on my exercise shoes as they are tight. But once I got them on, the toe would not move and I could jump around. I think I have a pretty high pain intolerance and I just worked through the pain. The really bad thing is, because I did continue to work out, it literally took about 4-6 months for my toe to heal. So it all depends on how long you want to be in pain. I, for one, didn't want to give up exercise and worked through that pain which, like I said lasted 4-6 months, or you can go very low impact and let it heal correctly. I know, not good news. Kelley

Thanks, Everyone!!!

Thanks so much! It feels a bit better this morning.:7 I can actually walk pretty much without a limp with no shoes on, but as soon as I put my shoe on, it does hurt a bit more due to squishing my toes together!(and, my limp comes back!:-() I also had a blood blister which my DH did "surgery" on this morning and that helped relief some of that presuure. I am hoping maybe I didn't break it, but just bruised it very badly. I'll keep you posted. Today was SUPPOSED to be a "Meaner Legs" day but I think it will definitely be CTX upper body instead. Can't even imagine doing those one-legged squats! :-wow Thanks fo responding!

Poor Debbie! Here is a cyber hug! No idea how quick the recovery will take, but here's to hoping it's soon!

I hurt my pinkie toe, too!

Hi, Debbie H -

I'm a frequent lurker but I just had to chime in about my experience. A couple of months ago I caught my pinkie toe while I was pulling on my spandex exercise shorts at 4:30 a.m. and trying to balance on 1 leg. I'm blaming the early hour and not my lack of coordination for my hurt toe but I exercised on it (I believe I did a step video) and felt fine until I put a pair of flats on to go to church. I could barely walk and limped around the rest of the day. The next day, I decided to "just see" how I would do and surprisingly enough my toe felt fine in the exercise shoes (wider toe box than my regular shoes?) and I was able to workout just fine. My toe healed within 2-3 days.

Your fellow pinkie-toe sufferer,

Sue

RE: I hurt my pinkie toe, too!

Thanks Jilly & Sue! I need that hug Jilly! :7 Sue, yor post made my day! I am walking around in my workout shoes now. I was really limping a lot his morning with them on, but it seems to be getting a bit better! I surely can handle 2-3 days! Thanks for your encouragement everyone. SUNNY days ahead! :-cool

RE: I hurt my pinkie toe, too!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-12-02 AT 05:49PM (Est)[p]Hi Debbie!

I ran my pinkie toe into a door frame about 3 years ago. It was one of the worst pains I've ever had! It was so bad I limped my way to the campus doctor and an x-ray revealed a hairline fracture on my poor baby toe.

I was limping and not-exercising for ~ 6 weeks. Even after that, if it would bend a little on its own it would hurt like crazy. Still today I have the psychological pain of looking down and seeing the still-swollen bulge on what used to be a perfect tiny little toe (LOL).

Good news: I was painfully limping that night, the next day, and for weeks. If you were able to feel improvement so soon, it would seem that you weren't quite as klutzy as me! Hopefully you can be back to working out normally once the swelling subsides.

FYI: The doctor did nothing more than show me how to tape it to its neighbor to stabalize the movement a little.

Interesting: The year before the pinky incident I banged my foot on a heavy chest and broke the middle toe on the same foot (I am a HUGE klutz!). That one hurt for several hours and was black for a few weeks but the day after the incident I never felt pain (unless of course I touched it on purpose). It gives me great respect for that teeny little toe to recognize how much of my weight it bears!

Take care of your little one and have a wonderful week!

Mikie

RE: I hurt my pinkie toe, too!

Ouch!! We never realize how much our feet and toes do for us until we hurt them. I hope your pinkie is feeling better and you're back on your tootsies soon. Is that the toe that has roast beef or the one who ran home? .. trying to make you laugh.. The poem just came to mind; I know that was awful. Feel better!

Thanks Mikie & Carol!

Yes, Mikie, hoping it's not a break, but a bruise! I'm not as sure I wasn't as clumsy as you! ;-) Carol, I think it's the one that goes "Wee, Wee, Wee...all the way home!! Or in my case, waaah, waaah, waaah!!! Thanks guys!

Hey Debbie,
I have actually broken my baby toe twice, and on the same foot. So, I certainly feel your pain. Unfortunately, I will tell you what the doctor told me on both occasions. You need to take some medical tape and splint your baby toe to the two larger toes right next to it. Then, try to stay off it as much as possible for the first week. Personally, I didn't even wear shoes, but wore thongs to work because forcing my foot into a shoe was just too painful. You should have seen it! There I was in a business meeting, in the middle of November in a suit and thongs. Anyway, you will probably not be able to get back to full intensity (Cathe MIC jumping and hopping) for at least a month. Still, there are lots of things that will help to pass the time. I spent a lot of time in the pool at the University and was able to ride my spin bike at the end of the second week. I know it seems hard to wait, but it is important that you let this injury heal properly. Otherwise it may end up affecting your workouts for even longer! Good luck!

Murph Here: Injury Queen

well, girlfriend--I definitely agree that you tape this toe and do some spinning and low impact. If you've broken it--the doctors will only tape it. If you've bruised it--the tape will ease the pressure and you will know by how it feels how short a time you can get away with--in terms of low impact.
Also: (and I know you Know this; ICE.) Also: Advil.

My worst whole leg bruises took 5 weeks to begin to turn yellow--if you get ahead of this time frame--good for you. But, please don't over =do. Cathe can "talk some of her classes through...you can, too!" love, Murph

Activegirl & Murph!

You guys are all so great. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. Activegirl, I will try to go easy. I KNOW I shouldn't do anything at this point, but I am TRYING very hard to not jump or twist. I do have a spinning bike at home. I even thought, I might try to use my thigh rocker! :-wow I will approach it with shoes on! Thanks for your advice.

Murph~Our "Injury Queen" You sure deserve the crown this year!!!Thanks for all your tips too. My toes doesn't feel too bad tonight, especially with my shoes off. Wonder if I could do aerobics with thongs?? Just kidding of course! I'll keep you posted and I may write back asking suggestions on which tapes for a comeback. Thanks to everyone who posted!
