Slumber Parties

I have a quick question.
My daughter is having a slumber party this weekend.So far she as 7 girls NOT from her class that she wants to invite.There are a couple of these kids that I don't think will be able to make it.
Then she as a bestfriend in her class that was suppose to be going away this weekend(which made this alot easier)but now she isn't.My little girl wants to invire her to her sleepover and one more girl from her class.
I don't know what I should do.I live in a small town where everyone knows everybody.I don't want the rest of the kids(or the parents) in her class to take offense to not being invited....but I CAN'T have 20 kids for all night.Should I say...the hell with it...its your party invite who you want, or no we will stick to the orignal list?
I just don't want to hurt some poor kids feelings b/c I think if the roles were reversed and Jayna was the one not getting invited,then she would be sad about it.
I wish I could invite all of them and only half of them show up....but with my luck everyone would show up AND bring their cousins!
Anyone got any experience in this?

I would let her invite only those she wants to, and of course within your limits of how many of those little girls you want in your house all night! LOL!! We live in a small town too, and everyone knows who is invited to their kids' parties, and who is not. They get over it. It seems to bother the parents more than the kids themselves!! Your daughter's party will be more fun for her if she only has over kids she really likes. Have fun!!

Thanks! I was surprised that someone responded so soon.There is one little girl comming that she would rather not have but I run with her mother.Even I don't know if I can handle her.She is almost 8 but acts 4(or less)I think she as been babied alot.She gets hyper real fast.
She went to a sleepover last friday night and that little girl only invited 4 girls from her class so I may call her mother and see how she worked around that.I think its a matter of saying to yourself "whatever".
Like I said...from the orignal list I think there will be a few girls not show up, so I don't want only 5 kids to come to her party.I can handle around 10 kids.

It sounds like you will have your hands full already. My daughter did a slumber party when she turned 10. Girls came that were not invited. I am not sure how that happened. Of course we welcomed them. I got NO sleep that night. Three of them were still awake at 5am....

Your daughter should just invite who she wants. If she invites the two girls from class, maybe you could drive your daughter to thier house to give them the invitation instead of taking it to school.

There were 21 girls at my daughters slumber party 4 years ago. I have never done it since.... ;)

I put the brakes on slumber parties a few years ago too, Beverly. We topped out at 16 but it was It felt like there were 60!

Lori, it's your call. Set a limit and invite only those girls your daughter wants.

My daughter got invited to one a few years ago, the mother's first experience. I dropped her off and chatted with the perfectly coiffed and smiling mom who'd let her daughter invite all her friends. I told her she was brave, LOL! She said she knew it was going to be fabulous. When I picked Sydney up the next morning, she came to the door with her hair sticking straight up, looking completely frazzled, grouchy and about 6 hours short of sleep! It was so funny!

LOL Beverly My daughter did it once and my poor son got the brunt of their sleepless night jokes, they decided to sneek into his room and paint his face with makeup!!! LOL so now when she has a sleepover he locks his door at night LOL and yes never got any sleep either, but now that she is getting older sleepovers are getting few and far between! now I get to look forward her driving next year!

I mean, 10 girls aged 8 or under is A LOT OF NOISE!!!!!!!!!!

But if they are older than 10, they could be easier to handle, spend more time chatting, gossipping, painting their nails, watching a movie, rather than pelting cheerios at eachother or screaming in unison!

Call me a wimp, but 10 sounds like a lot to me...and Bobbi, 16?!?!?!?!? Are you crazeeeeee?!

Lori: make a deal with your daughter maybe, i.e. you limit the numbers, she chooses who to ask to make up that number, and she gets freedom to decide their activities, and food, etc.

I always thought 6 was a good number. For me, 8 max. But then, we don't live in a mansion!

I thought your post was going to be about Slumber Parties, the company that sells s*x toys to you in your living room, much like women sold Tupperware in the 60's. I went to one, and when the hostess had to explain to me what the thing on her dinette set was used for, I knew I was in way over my head.
 
Absolutely, Clare! I found three girls, my daughter included, sleeping on the first landing of our staircase. On three hours sleep, they were lucky I didn't roll them on down with my foot! LOL! But it was our last large birthday party and now they have to content themselves with 2 friends and dinner at the resturant of their choice. My kids are January, June and September so they are spread out at least!

What was it for, Jilly? ROFL!

Lori you are one tough woman if you can handle 10 kids sleeping over in your house!! My hat's off to you, girl!! LOL!! When Nik has a sleepover I'm stressed if there are more than four of them!! LOL!! Of course, they're older and they don't really "sleep". Instead they think family room furniture is synonymous with "playground equipment", and see nothing odd about pranking their friends on the phone at 2:00 AM. What fun. NOT!! LOL!!

I once had my entire Girl Scout Troop sleep over once. At the time they were 10-11 year old and it was 12 girls not including my 8 yr son and 1 yr baby girl at the time.. I never did sleep that night and boy was I soooo happy when they were all gone by 10 am the next morning. It was a good thing that my hubby was still deployed in Saudi Arabia he would not have any of it . That was the last major sleepover we had and it was a lil over 4 yrs ago.Hehehee
 
Thank Gawd my daughter is in college and I never have to deal with this again! But I do remember I just set a limit and let her figure out who to invite. She usually just blamed me and told the other girls they would do something soon. She started having these when she was about 12.
 
I don't have any girls so I'm sure it's different than boys having sleepovers. Our most famous birthday sleepover (it's not a slumber party with boys) was for my son's 11th birthday in January. Ten boys in the finished basement in sleeping bags. One boy threw up, another smelled it, and so it went. At 3am my son woke us up to say that he "quit" and was going to bed in his room cuz everyone was throwing up. It was true. Six of the remaining nine did the sympathy thing. It was unbearable. So at 3am, I'm calling parents AND hauling sleeping bags out to the garage. Couldn't hose anything down because it was freezing. The carpet looked like a minefield. The kids talked about THAT party for years. I felt sorry for the kid who "started" it. He wasn't invited to many sleepovers after that! Alexis
 
Holy crow-16???? 20???? My 11 year old daughter had 2 friends sleep over a few weeks back and it was pretty brutal. One friend spilled a glass of milk in the keyboard while I was doing my workout, and when I came upstairs afterwards she was complaining to me because she couldn't chat, the keyboard wasn't working. She didn't mention the milk.

Never. Again.

Plus, every time my 5-year old sleeps over anywhere, or has a friend sleep over, the entire weekend is a write-off because she gets no sleep and she's miserable the next day.

Funny thing, my son has a friend over all the time and I barely notice there's another kid in the house!!
