Since your barbell is already somewhat padded, a barbell pad might not work (though a bar pad made for an Olympic bar would still fit around it, probably). You could try draping a folded towel around your neck and putting the barbell on that. That's what I used to do when I squatted heavy weights in a weight room, before I knew there were such things as barbell pads.
