Slim Series

Awhile back there was a thread going about the Slim Series and many people debated whether or not to buy it and/or did indeed order the series. For those of you who did, how do you like it? Have you noticed a difference? How does the high rep/low weight compare to Cathe tapes in terms of how you like the training method/results? For those who decided against it, what swayed your decision?

RE: The mother of all Slim Series Threads

I have done all but one of the workouts so far. These are really easy to follow and take up very little room. You use very little equipment.
My daughter is going to college this fall and we both were thinking they would be great for her to take(Dang I'll have to get another set)
She is on the 2nd floor of the dorms and these are quite and minimal jumping around workouts.

These are very deceptive workouts. I feel that they aren't the intensity of Cathe, but boy, am I ever sore the next couple of days!!
My legs are sore all the way around..quads, hams, calves, butt. I love them for that reason. My core is also sore. I have not noticed as much soreness in my upper body. They have alot of constant compound moves. They are fast moving. You never get a break, which makes the workout go by fast. It's just one move after the other. The high reps give you a good burn in the muscle, even with very light weights. They don't use anything above 8lbs. So far, I really like them. They are alot different than Cathe. But it's a nice change.

.
Here is an interesting post on why this type of training works.

RE: The mother of all Slim Series Threads

Does anyone know if the "Slim training" method is true? I have the Slim Series and I think they are great workouts and Debbie Siebers is a great instructor . I ask because like in the Firm workouts they do recommend taking a 24-48 hour rest wih weight training body parts and they aren't bulky... they actually look just as lean as Debbie to me. I enjoy cardio or weights and cardio workouts over just strength training, so never tried just weight training light everyday.

I just caved and ordered these!

I'm excited to get them! Variety is always nice!!

RE: The mother of all Slim Series Threads

I've previewed all of them and done two of them now. I'm having to put them on hold becuase I've been nursing a hip flexor injury (occurred prior to this) and just have to get that under control. The web site and booklet explain that this type of training is to be short term only as a rotation of no more than 4-6 weeks. I think it could be very effective in leaning out your muscle appearance if you tend to bulk easily. Also the tapes are sequenced quickly and with lots of large muscle, lower body moves that keep your heart rate in the lower cardio range for fat burning. I did feel the lower body work but not the upper body. I think its because she does a lot of unique moves for the hip/butt that Cathe doesn't do. Good floor work, kind of like the old Firms. Overall its really closest to the old Karen Voigt Great Weighted Workout. I don't think the music is bad-its just a jazz instrumental with a drum beat. She does stay on beat most of the time, but not all the time, but you don't really notice that much. (There's a music off option.) I'm really looking forward to seeing what it will do for my lower body once I'm ready to work out again. My upper body stays pretty buffed just doing PUB or PS once a week without much else. Lower body is my issue.

RE: The mother of all Slim Series Threads

How long are the videos? If they are over 30-40 minutes is there a way to break them out? I am asking because I only have that short of time in the morning to work out. Would it be a waste of $$ to buy them if I cannot use them in their entirety?

Thanks
Rhonda

RE: The mother of all Slim Series Threads

I believe, they are about 75 minutes long.

The secret of their success is the length of time IMHO.

Actually 2 are around 78 mins Shape it Up and Tear it Up the others come around just under 60 mins. You can on the dvd skip sections to help shorten the workouts.

Two of the workouts are 78 minutes, I believe, and the others are around 60 minutes.

RE: The mother of all Slim Series Threads

I did a 4-week rotation with the SS and I was very pleased with the results. I missed my Cathe weights terribly and a couple of times I started to cut the rotation short and go back to my other way of training, but I was determined to do a complete 4-week rotation! Then I really started seeing results and got addicted to them. I went back to a Cathe rotation 2 weeks ago (I am on my 3rd week) and while at first I felt like I had not lost any strength, this morning I did LL and now I am not so sure!! It was really tough! A lot tougher than I remembered! Oh, another thing....I did 30 minutes of cardio with these, also. (Except with Tear It Up)

Anyway, for me, SS was a really nice change in routine and I think it was good to shake things up in a new way. But I do think a person really needs to include heavier rotations in order to keep up strength! I think I will do a 6-8 week Cathe rotation, then switch, etc.
