Skeeters *slap* EVERYWHERE!!!

Has the rest of the country shipped all their mosquitoes (mosquitos?) to Chicagoland? Those little bloodsucking fiends (funny book BTW) are everywhere! And they love me. Apparently I am a skeeter bug delicacy.

Every Sun night after dinner, we take Vlad to a park or preserve for after dinner walkies, the rest of the week we walk around the neighborhood. We went to a forest preserve last night, and it was infested to high heaven. They were even going after Vlad, especially his ears and eye/mouth area. He did get one bite right under his eye, which swelled up last night, but seems to have gone down today.

Our yard is also mostly garden, so we are full of them, too. And when I get them they swell up about quarter size if I scratch them, then they start to bleed. I have giant one on my left leg and my right arm. Not a good look.

I think its rained just about everyday since May, even if it is just passing thunderstorms, but nothing ever dries out complete, so we get itchy bugs all over. I think this is the worst it's been in years. Are you ladies getting lots of buggies this year, too? They're huge this year, too and driving me crazy!

On the upside, all the rain is making my veggie garden grow like crazy! Yum!

Better they're over yonder with you than here nibbling away at me, Nan :p (Of course, I kid) Sorry to hear of your discomfort, but as with anything in nature it comes along with the upside that you can enjoy watching your garden grow due to all the rain. Re your dog: I think I remember a few years back using some flea/tick spray on our little mutt that also acted as mosquito repellant. Sorry can't remember the brand right off. Take care with all those bites too. I know firsthand they can be so awful. Perhaps bad timing but can't help but think of that saying that in some parts of the world the mosquitoes are so big, they don't fly...they take taxis :D

Hasn't been as bad so far this year here, but the few that there are find me, anyway, b/c I'm a skeeter bug delicacy, too. I've found, though, that peppermint oil works wonders. When I dab on some of it, they steer clear!

Oh I sooo feel your pain. They are unbearable here in NW MN. We have also had rain since May and the yard just won't dry up. More rain today. They have been following us into the house on our clothing so we just can't get away.

Runnin teach - I will have to try the peppermint oil. It has to smell better than OFF!!

The skeeters are really bad in Central MN too! I was attcked while grilling my salmon tonight ! Our yard isn't drying up either and the rain just keeps coming! I swear a new batch of mosquitos hatch every day

I'm going to try the peppermint oil too!
