sick...when do you not work out?

I've had a sore throat for the past week and finally broke down and went to the doctor today. I'm on Amoxicillin for a probable strep throat. The results won't be in until probably Monday, due to the holiday.

When do you all decide to take a rest? My husband keeps insisting if I'd take some down time, I'd be better by now. I always thought neck and up (stuffy nose, sore throat) is okay; below the neck stomach/lung ailments), take it easy.

Any thoughts on this?

Happy New Year!

That's what I have heard, in the head go ahead in the chest give it a rest. Play it by ear though if you don't feel up to it ,then by all means take a break, but if you have the energy then go for it!

Hope you feel better soon!:)

I agree with Annette. Listen to your body. If you have the energy, your body is telling you it's okay to exercise. If you don't, I would rest.

BTW, I was sick a couple of weeks ago, so I listened to my body and took about a week and a half off. I was amazed at how much easier my workouts seemed when I got back into it (particularly intense cardio). I've heard you should give your body a week off every three months or so (which, IMO, is hard to do). I think there's something to that recommendation!

Hope you feel better soon!:)

I worked out when I had that flu everyone else had, but I didn't have nearly the energy I normally do. I ended the workout when my body told me it was time to rest, and I only lifted what felt comfortable. I agree with everyone else - listen to your body and do what it's telling you to do. I hope you feel better soon!!

I've had a terrible sore throat for the last 5 days and I have a doctor's appt in the morning. There is no way I'm working out while this sick. I know it will just make it worse.

If I'm feeling sick or weak at all I don't work out. I save my strength to try and fight it off.

Hope you get better soon and I hope I get some good meds from the doc tomorrow. This sore throat is so bad it hurts my ears and throat to swallow. :(

Michelle,
You might just do some "lighter" workouts while you're recovering from this bug. Drink lots and lots of water!! (You know that I'm sure) Also make sure you are getting enough sleep. Listen to your body and if it says to rest, then rest. Hope you get well quickly. Oh, as a nurse I have to add on the "make sure you take all of your antibiotic". Have a good New Year!
