Shortened Jingle Bell Run

Well, the snow we got Friday and yesterday made it so the organizers of the Jingle Bell Run here had to shorten the run from an 8k to a 5k, or about 5 miles down to about 3.1 miles.
I ran with my son thru the ice and wind this morning and nailed home a 19 min. 6 sec. finish which is in the 6 min per mile range. I felt good about it because I never run, except intervals on a treadmill. I felt strong and really felt all of my various interval workouts paid off in a shorter event like this. Based on this time I am sure if we had run the full 8k I would have destroyed my PR for sure.
I am glad to be back inside sipping warm hot chocolate. Damn it was cold!!!

Hot chocolate laced with what??

Congratulations Trevor! How'd Matthew do? You put a bit of pressure on him, didn't you?

Debra

Virgin hot chocolate this time Debra. But the holidays are just getting started so look out! :)
Matthew finished in a little over 21 mins. The cold air zapped him pretty good and he was having a little troubles breathing. No pressure though. It was just something we could do tgether for fun.
Trevor :)

Both you and Matthew did great! Do you do the race together every year? Does Matthew run regularly?

Andrea

Apologies Trevor, my admiration for your performance apparently came off as a backhanded compliment, rather than a sincere compliment. I'm sure not many of Matthew's friends have a parent that can race like you.

I suspect that I'm in a majority in saying that I wish I'd had a parent that could keep up with me when I was in high school.

Enjoy the snow!

Debra

Hi Debra!!
No need to apologize, unless I missed something. lol!! I certainly didn't take what you said as anything more than a sincere compliment. You are right I do pressure him in a way I guess, because I can stay with him. Otherwise though, I leave him alone as far as letting him do whatever sports he wants to do, etc. If I was a so-called "stage-parent" he'd have played baseball from day one!! lol! :)

Thank you again Debra!!
:)

Hi Andrea!
Matthew runs track at his high school.
This was the first time we'd run an organized run together simply because I don't like to run very much. We make this an annual thing however. How could I resist freezing my a@# off once a year to celebrate the holidays? lol!!
Trevor :)

How great Trevor! What a super role model you are! It is neat when we think about how inactive our parents (at least mine) were. Good for you and congarts on your time, ESPECIALLY in the cold and wind! Brrrrr! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/natur/nature-smiley-12.gif[/img]
