Shoes

It just occured to me that I'm in dire need of new workout shoes. My right knee is giving me some trouble and that's usually a good indicator that I've been clueless about the state of my shoes. I think I have a high instep, at least on the right foot. I also need something with superb cushioning. I currently have Asics but have been less than impressed with this particular style. I tried Ryka before my asics and for some reason they didn't fit well (and I REALLY wanted them too). So now what do I try? Do I go for strictly aerobics shoes or crosstrainers? I only do Cathe (the gamut).

TIA

I'd highly suggest going to a running store like Fleet Feet and have them fit you. I did a ton of research on PF and was "set" on getting Brooks Ariel (I think anyway) and come to find out while it does help PF, ONLY if you are an overpronater which I'm not. So I would have gotten the wrong shoe for me. They spent over an hour with me trying to find a shoe that worked.

Hi, Sue! I have very high arches and am a severe over-pronator. I love New Balance Cross Trainers, particularly the WX 1004, which has of course been discontinued but can be found at discount prices. I like the 1005 also but not quite as much. http://www.JoesNewBalanceOutlet.com

I also like some Nike models which suit my high arched foot but they are running shoes and I have not tried a Nike crosstrainer yet. I think
I change out my shoes every 6 months or so or buy two pairs and alternate them but I have had PF among other injuries so I baby my feet and give them the best shoes I can find.

Colleen's suggestion to have an expert fit you is terrific! I discovered New Balance shoes by for running by visiting the local running shop and then moved into their crosstrainers after. Good luck and enjoy!

Hi Sue, I have the same problem with Rykas not fitting well (and the same disappointment over it!). I've found that New Balance shoes work better for me. I currently alternate between NB 745s and NB 825s. Hope this helps,

Kristen

I like New Balance Crosstrainers too. If you have a New Balance store near you, they're really good about working with you to find the right shoe for your needs.

Thanks all! We don't have a store nearby that I would put a lot of confidence in fitting me. I did decide to go with NB and found some on sale (RRS).

Thanks for the input!
