Shampoo/Cond for frizzy hair?

I have really coarse, frizzy hair. Can anyone suggest the best drugstore shampoo/conditioner? I don't want to spend too much $.

Is your hair curly? Is it overly dry? Do you blow dry it? There are many things that can promote frizzy hair if you're prone to it. The type of shampoo and conditioner may not be the full answer to the problem.

Honestly, I have crazy curly and frizzy hair and the only thing that fixed my hair is Henna
I buy real Henna, be aware of people selling henna that is not 100% real. I buy Light Mountain from the net (ebay or any other). The 2nd time I applied, my hair changed drastically and received a lot of compliments

seriously, I am surprised, did not expect that. I used it 3 months after 1st time, now I feel like using it once a month

AMAZING

sorry not what you asked but had to share

Haha, Darine maybe I will try that!

Dawn, my hair is somewhat curly and dry. I hardly ever blow dry; I might have blown it out 4 times since May, hoping that would help but it hasn't really. I also only wash it every other day.

hey there! well, I do not have frizzy hair....BUT! My friends hair is...well OUT OF CONTROL if she doesn't tame it....lol (Love you Kathy!hehe:p)...but she uses "Nexxus". i believe it's fairly new in the market and she says it helps...ALOT.

However, it's rather expensive. I figure if other products don't work and you're at your last resort, give this a shot! It might work and well, be worth the money. Good luck hun!

You should check out Lorraine Massey's book Curly Girl. I started CG method about 2 years ago & it's almost eliminated my frizz (and believe me, I had some frizz!).

Until then, may I suggest you ditch shampoos, except maybe something gentle & sulfate free once or twice a week (I use J&J baby shampoo, also Loreal has a new sulfate free line). For drugstore conditioner, I really like VO5 tea tree. Biolage is great too, you can find it in most drugstores now, though it is a bit pricey.

I shampoo Sundays, & sometimes Thursdays too, but I condition every day. I avoid products that have sulfates in them, & also conditioners & styling products with silicones. Cones can protect the hair from damage, but the problem is they coat the hair so to avoid build up you have to use a clarifying shampoo, which means sulfates.

Hope I didn't confuse you even more!

I have really curly hair... and for a long time i spent too much money buying salon products. To be honest- the best thing i've found is good old Pantene. My hairdresser told me that the reason it works so well for me is because it has a waxy base. Try the Pantene ice shine (including the mousse). If it doesn't work for you at least you haven't spent a bundle :)

I have REALLY curly but thin hair as well. I have spent a bundle in the past on salon product trying to find the magic thing. I have found something that seems to work well for me at the moment.
I am like LauraMax and Ayle in one, I shampoo only one or twice a week but I condition everyday. I love the curly girl stuff as well but found it to be pricey. I now have it down to this and I keep getting compliments from friends that my hair looks good: in the shower I use pantene (mostly the tube deep conditioners, it seems nothing else will do). Then out of the shower I use a dime size amount of curly girl conditioner (not leave-in conditioner) and sometimes I mix it with kerastase oleo-relax serum as it makes my hair easier to brush (not the elixir). These two items are pricey, but they last me for a loooong time (months) because I use so little of it. Then I let it air dry.
Good luck! taking care of curly hair is as much of a battle as staying fit and healthy! :D

I too have curly hair that is quite dry. I found that when I stopped shampooing every day it has made a world of difference. I now shampoo twice a week and condition it every day. I use Frizz Ease shampoo and conditioner and I also use the Frizz Ease Thermal Protection Serum every day since I diffuse my hair. Since using the serum every day and shampooing 2 times a week my hairdresser has really noticed a difference in my hair too. Hope that helps!

What I've found is that conditioning every single day is the most important thing. I've checked out the curly girl method but couldn't stand the thought of not shampooing when I get all sweaty every day. :D I've been changing up conditioners a lot. With my hair, it doesn't seem to matter what brand I use, as long as I keep it on my hair for several minutes, instead of just applying and then rinsing it out. I also use a leave-in conditioner, though those can be kind of pricey.

I also use a hair diffuser instead of just a blow dryer. That's made a big difference.

Another thing that really helps to control the frizz are the anti-frizz creams or gels. You'll have to play around and see which one works best for you. Some are really heavy and just matt my hair down. I get mine from my hair stylist... this is the one thing I really splurge on, because I haven't had any luck with the ones you can get at Wal-Mart, etc. Dang it, I can't remember what brand it is. Sorry!

But in general, curly hair is naturally a lot drier than straight hair. So my advice is - whatever conditioner you decide upon, use TONS more than you ever thought you should. Leave it in while you shave your legs, wrap your hair in a towel with it still in your hair after you shower and rinse it out a5 or 10 min later - whatever. Curly hair needs serious moisture.

I have naturally curly hair too. Has anyone tried curly girls's products such as the Devacurl stuff? I can't stand not washing my hair after working out either. I use biolage stengthening shampoo and conditioner, the hydrating kind made my hair frizzy. I also use morrocan oil, its awesome! No frizzies!

I also have really curly hair, I use Pantene Ice Shine also, only wash hair once a week, (otherwise gets really out of control!) I condition every shower and I don't rinse it out. Then I do my mousse, It has made a difference for me, except when it is humid, then I need to shellac (sic) it down! Mary

I love "Yes to Cucumbers" leave in conditioner. I find it at Target and also Walgreens. I have tried several of their products and love everything I have tried.

Wow, how in the world do you ladies not shampoo every day with getting so sweaty? When I am finished running and working out, my curly hair is completely drenched in sweat. If I don't shampoo, I can't leave the house. I can't even think about just wetting it down and styling it because of all that sweat in it.

I use Nexxus Humectress conditioner as a leave in styling product on my hair. I apply it to my towel dried hair with my head upside down, from the roots to the ends and scrunch. I then blow dry with a diffuser (still holding my head upside down).

Thanks for all the advice ladies!!

Jeanne Marie, I used to cringe at the thought of not washing my hair esp after being drenched in sweat but if you rinse really well and condition, surprisingly your hair doesn't smell. I made several people test my theory when I 1st started not washing everyday lol! If I washed everyday, my hair would look like a tumbleweed.

Laura, I looked up the curly girl tips and they said avoid shampoos with sulfate in them. Guess what my shampoo is FULL of?! Yup. So I bought Loreal's line of sulfate-free shampoo and a good conditioner. I'm gonna try the curly girl method and see what happens.

i had dry itchy hair til i switched to Neutrogena Triple Moisture. the expensive shampoos i am alergic to. my hair stylist noticed a difference. it is now soft not dry or itchy.

Me too--when I first read Massey's book I thought there was no way I couldn't shampoo, what w/all the exercise & sweat. But she says conditioners have the same cleansing agents as shampoos, & sweat is water soluble anyway. :)

Mel, good luck w/the CG--I must say it changed my life! I never loved my hair until I tried it. It seems overwhelming at first, but honestly I find it much easier than my old hair routine. Check out naturallycurly.com, they have message forums w/TONS of info. Good luck, let me know how it works for you!

OK, so it's been almost a week since I've been doing the curly girl method and let me tell you...my hair feels and looks AMAZING!! It is so soft and I don't have that dried-out frizzy mess on top of my head! I was a little apprehensive about "washing" my hair with conditioner but I am glad I did it. Thanks ladies!!!!!

Something else to try is Moroccan Oil. I was on vacation recently to visit my BFF who is a hairdresser. She gave me some of this to try - really gets the frizzies out and leaves a nice shine and silky soft. It's pricey but you don't need alot per use. She also told me to go easy on Pantene products - they leave a build up on your hair which actually does more damage in the long run by not allowing the hair folicles to breathe once the build up is there. I use conditioner everyday (just drug store brands, normally Herbal Essences) but only shampoo every other day.

Third vote for Moroccan Oil! I have been using the 'no-poo' method as well on my curly hair and it is amazing how wonderful it feels. And shiny (and not from oil :p - I used to wish for oily hair :)). I tried Wen and didn't have good results, some people do though..
