Selling cars on ebay

Does anyone here have any experience with this? I've sold lots of stuff on Ebay, but never a car.

My dh wants to list a car we have on Ebay but we're not sure what the charge is that Ebay would charge. If anyone has any details about this, can you please share it with me.

Thank you!

Do you have a local craigslist where you are? I'd go that route -- it's free. I wouldn't give ebay a cut of a car deal.

Yes, we have craiglist and have listed it on there before. My dh researched ebay and said cars and motorcycles were going for way more with an auction then with craiglist. I was just wondering what cut Ebay would get. Like is it 3%, 10%?

Never sold a car on eBay, but we would consider it. The listing and selling fees are pretty reasonable.

We purchased our son's first car on eBay. It was a really good deal.:) We sent the seller a $200 deposit through PayPal. DH flew to Kentucky to check it out, pay the balance, sign the paperwork, and then drove it home (5 hour drive). It was from a large dealership. In all honesty, I wouldn't buy from a private owner this way.

I wanted to add.....I would read the eBay motor forum before listing. They will help you with seller protection etc.
If you sell the car, I would be VERY careful how you receive payment.

We sold a car on ebay and got a lot more than we would have gotten on Craig's list. When you list on Craig's list you typically get a lot of used car dealers trying to low ball the price so that they can make a profit reselling. I don't remember what the charge was though . I'll ask DH if he remembers and repost if he does.

I did... years ago. FIL wanted to sell his antique (very nice looking) car. He couldn't get a good price trying to do it himself. I don't remember the fees on it... I think the buyer put $100 down after auction ends. He came and picked it up after checking the car out -- and payed the balance via cashier's check.
