Sculpting of the thighs

I sent this message originally to Cathe the other day, but if anyother people out there have any insight on this, please let me know. Thanks!!!

Cathe, I have a question for you. I am 5 feet 3 inches tall, weigh 115 pounds. I am in good shape. I am a mesomorph. My thighs are very muscular and defined in the front. However, I want to get that side sweep line in the thigh. You know when you look at someones legs from the side, you see a line that seperates the thigh and the hamstring. What exercises can I do that will build that up? Please let me know. Thanks!!!!!!

Not Cathe but.... If I recall correctly I was doing squats with Gym Style Legs last week and I think I heard Cathe talk about this for a minute. If you do your squats with legs closer together then you work more of the muscle area that allows the cut you are referring to. I perked up a bit because I have less than perfect legs but I DO get comments about the side cuts I have.... I have always done squats with legs closer because its a bit more comfy for my lower back.... I'll look at tape again and see if I can make sure I heard her right. Hope we get a detailed answer on this one too!

hey traci, thank you so much for the feedback, that makes sense, i am going to try that at the gym tonight, i want that side cut badly so that my legs will look sleek and toned and not just bulky and muscular!!!!.

Hi Robin--not Cathe but.......since you have access to a gym, you could try the leg extension machine for definition. Typically I use squats, lunges & presses to gain size, & leg extensions & curls for definition. Try doing 3-4 sets of 15 of 75-80% of your max at 3 sets of 10.

Thanks for your feedback, I will take this into consideration for my workout. I have done leg extension a lot, but I usually pile the weight on, since I feel it working more. What do you think about doing 20-30 reps of leg extensions with lighter weight, would this be more beneficial in achieving that side cut? Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Robin

It could be. There are a ton of variations you can use on the leg extension. If you have a training parter, you can do something like 5 reps at your heaviest weight, drop the weight down 30% & do 10 reps, & then drop it down another 20% & do another 10 reps--all in a row, & you have to lower the weight sloooooooooowly. I've done this a few times w/a friend at my gym & man did I feel the burn.

This is just another option, there are lots more. But IMO the way to get that side quad definition is with leg extensions.

You didn't say how developed your hamstrings are?? You might need to beef them up rather than continue to develop or possibly over-develop your front quads. I've found that straight leg cable exersizes do great things to my legs. Side outer thigh will help with the sweep you're after. Do them as a finishing exercise after your squats/lunges.

my hamstrings are not as developed as my quads, what exercises are you referring to for the side outer thigh, what would you recommend?
