I posted a couple of months ago about more hair shedding than normal. I think it has slowed (knock on wood) but I had blood work just to check things out. Iron and B 12 levels were fine. TSH and T4 were fine but T3 was 1 point low. Also, today they called and said my FSH and LH were low. I've been on the pill since I was 19 (35 now). I've been on THIS pill (Yasmin) for about 5-6 years with no side effects. My periods are normal and regular (though they were horrible off the pill from what I can remember). Other than sometimes sweating at night, which I attribute to too much cover or my dogs, I feel fine. I only checked into this because of the hair thing. I read that the pituitary gland has a lot to do with both hormones and thyroid but I'm SCARED TO DEATH because everything makes me think about the big "C." I'm such a hypchondriac anyway! My diet is NOT what it should be either....way to much fat. Does stres and diet have an affect on the pituitary? Could perimenopause be affecting me at 35 AND while on the pill?? I'm FREAKING OUT!

Hi Kim. I wish I could offer you some input, but I have no knowledge on the subject. I just wanted to send some hugs and say that it sounds like something you should go over with your doctor. More than likely, as with many seemingly scary medical things, it is not as serious as our imaginations can make things seem. Anyway, I think going over the results with your doctor will make you feel tons better. Hang in there!!

Kim, I have no answers for you, but call your doc back and talk w/ him/her. When they called did they tell you to come back in for more tests?, if not your're probably fine. Usually offices won't give you the kind of information they did over the phone unless it's all right, so I'm guessing it is. Call them just to assure yourself.

Well this was my primary physician and his nurse called me (who I know well and they know how I am). Per the nurse, the dr said for her to fax the results to my gyn and let him look at them. They were already closed though so they'll have to fax tomorrow. As far as the thyroid result, they scheduled a thyroid scan. The dr said he knows how I am and is ordering the scan to "ease my mind."

I know I would be freaking out too! Its hard when you see anything come back as "abnormal!" But! Call your doctor tomorrow and let the nurse know how freaked you are, and really need to know whats up? In the meantime, think good thoughts, you are only 35 and I am sure you are just fine sweetie. :) Sending comfy (((HUGS)))your way. I am the same way, believe me. I never went to doctors, even skipped my paps because I don't like them "fishing around" trying to find something wrong. I realize that was stupid and I do go now, I even had a full body scan done last year to make sure all my organs and everything was perfect. Boy did that ease my mind.;)
You just need peace of mind too, so insist on getting that tomorrow.

Kim, when your doctor finds the cause, it can be treated. There are so many reasons women lose hair. Have you Googled "hair loss in women?"

I know how upset you are. I lost tons of hair in 2006 due to a thyroid condition. The loss has slowed down, but I'm still losing more than normal. I have been more upset about my hair loss than any other symptom I've suffered (there have been a lot).

When I touch my hair, I feel panicked - it's so thin! I try not to think about it. Since I have been on meds, my hair has become less dry, but I do not see new growth. I'm hoping!!

Good luck. I hope you find out what it is. I bet you will be fine.

Thanks for the support. I'm hoping since the BCP suppresses FSH and LH, that's why those numbers are low. I don't know if I'd be having any other symptoms of thryoid problems if my T4 and TSH were normal. Also, the shed could be TE from several months ago when I was sick.

Hi! I'm 35 too. And just had my fsh day 3 of my cycle. It was low (4.5) the doc said that was excellent, just what he wanted to see. From how I understood it, after some research and talking to the nurse, a low fsh inicates you have good ovarian reserve. A high # can inidate you are closer to menapase. Check it out for yourself though- cause I'm not a doc.... hope everything turns out good for you. Worry will do no good... you already know that. Keep us updated.:)

Kim,
You need to calm down now. When the results come in you will know what is going on. In the meantime take a few deep breaths and perhaps do some yoga. There really isn't anything else you can do until then. Yes, complain here for as long as you want, we will be here for you. Know we are all pulling for you.

(((((hugs)))))

Kim,

As difficult as it may be, try not to think about this and let your mind spin. With the information that's available on the internet, I think there is a tendency to self-diagnose. Why make yourself crazy? Rather than speculate, call your doc's office. And in the meantime, don't assume the worst. Hang in there, and let us know how you make out. (((HUGS)))

Kim - stress can cause hair loss. I have a good friend who was under a tremendous amout of pressure at work, and she started losing her hair. Her job situation has improved A LOT, and she doesn't have that problem any more. She never visited a doctor... she just threatened to leave, and her supervisors miraculously made some changes - LOL.

I hope everything works out for you. Take care.

Well it turns out that my BCP made those hormone numbers low. I'm relieved but at the same time, I need to stop looking for trouble. Thanks again for everyone's support and letting me be a hypochondriac.
