Samsung DVD Player anyone?

Spurred on by the many positive posts about DVD players on this forum, I've decided to buy one. Based on the Consumer Reports tests, I've narrowed down my choices to Sony's DVP-NC615 (or the NC655, though, I don't need progressive scan) or Samsung's DVD-C621. Based on reviews on other sites (including audioreview.com and epinions.com), I am leaning toward the Samsung (a couple of people indicated problems with the Sony and said it was noisy, of course, who knows if that's true...). But I don't find any info on that here in the forum, so I am not sure if it truely is programmable... Does anyone have this DVD player? If so, do you like it?

Thank you so much! And, also thank you to all of those who have provided information on how to research these things. It was tremendously helpful to me!

Rachel,
I own the Sony DVP-NC615 model and it is fully programmable. I got it based on the recommendation of another poster here at Cathe and because of the information I read about DVD players at viedeofitness.com. I know that not all DVD player are programable the way we like to do so for working out. Though it sounds like with Cathe's new DVD's that there are going to be many options to program different workouts even if your DVD player isn't fully programmable. I love my Sony. It is noisy (you can hear the DVD player switch to another DVD) if I have in more than one disk and I have programmed my workout to switch to another DVD during my workout, but that doesn't bother me because I don't have to stop and switch out DVD's or rewind a video tape. Love it, love it, love it! The workout options are endless! Enjoy!:7

Hi Rachel!

I have the Sony DVP-NC615 model also and like gogigi, I love it! I don't really even notice the noise when the disc skips to another one. I listened to some other ones while shopping for this one and I though it ran pretty smoothly. I haven't heard anything about the particular Samsung you're looking at, although I have heard they are good DVD players. HTH :D :7

RE: Samsung DVD Player anyone? - An update

Well, guess what? For some reason, I decided to read the ratings in the paper version of Consumer Reports, rather than online. And to my surprise there was this little note for the Samsung player: "Doesn't allow play order of DVD-video titles to be programmed." Why didn't they have that in the online version?!? There it says "Allows order of play of DVD-video chapters to be programmed." - So, maybe, I can program within a DVD but not accross, which kinda defeats the purpose of having a multi-DVD player... x(

Oh, well! I will get one of the Sony's! Thank you for your feedback on that one, gogigi and Sherry! It's always good to know from people who actually use the stuff that it works...

But, first, I'll pre-order the Body Blast DVDs...

Hi Rachael, I just brought the 655 sony dvd and it is great. You can program 2 or 5 different dvd from different title & chapters. You might want to check out sony.com to review them. I paid 179.99 for my. I did check every where and that is what they are going for. Good luck:)

Thanks, Barbara! I'll check out the sony.com site, although that might be dangerous I might end up wanting a whole lot more than a DVD player :).

Hi Rachel,

I purchased a Samsung DVD/VCR from Sears for $139.00. It is not a 5 disk CD changer, however is suits my needs perfectly. Sony is no doubt is an excellent name. But if you want something a little cheaper but comparable, go for the Samsung.

Your very welcome. I've also was looking a few weeks back and decided this is what I wanted. I wanted a 5 disc so I can program from different video. If your looking to do that then I would suggest go for any Sony's 5 disc not 1. You will not be sorry. Like yesterday was the first time that I program from 2 of Cathe's dvd and boy I was not sorry that I made this purchased. I think it is well worth an extra 20 bucks or so to go with the 5 disc. I know what you mean about being dangerous. It is dangerous here too! Good luck on your new investment;-) .

Rachel, I just did a search for the Sony player and came up with a price of 129.98 on Buy.com. Just thought you might like to know. I am considering purchasing a DVD player also. If I do, this is the route I will take...

Lydia --

The DVP-NC615 is listed at $119 at BestBuy.com, but they don't sell online right now, so we'll have to check our local stores. Based on the responses I've received here, that's the model I am planning on getting.

Thanks for your sharing!
