S&H question

I'm not sure I'm using the tapes the right way. The heaviest weight I have are 10lb. dumbells. I felt I could have gone heavier with the chest and back tape and most definately heavier with the leg section. So what kind of results might I see using dumbells. I really don't want to buy a barbell, but I guess I could get some 15lb dumbells.

Hi Beth,

While I'm by no means an expert on weight lifting in general, I guess your use of S&H depends on how strong you currently are and whether the weights you are using still challenge you. I would say that you most definitely would need to use something heavier than 10 lbs for the leg section. Do you do any other lower body lifting right now?

My own personal feelings are that in order to get an effective workout with these tapes you really need to be pushing your muscles to the limit. The idea of s&H is to build muscle mass and perfect your form, so you may see your form improving as you use your dumbells, but (again depending on your current level) I think you might quickly progress past the 10 and 15 lb dumbbell weightload.

Also, I know you said you don't want to, but I think barbell would be a great investment for you - you've already made that investment in the videos so why not take it a bit further? You could probably find a 110 lb dumbbell set for not too much more than the S&H series cost... again just my opinion! I really do like S&H and have seen my weights increase in the last few weeks. I hope this helps!

Plus it REALLY looks cool sitting there in your living room! ;-)

Walmart online has a 55lb. set for $20. Play it Again Sports has a barbell for $25. I think I just may break down a get one. My fear is that I will buy one or more weights and stop excercising, and that is a HUGE fear.

You CAN'T quit exercising

Beth, Didn't they tell you....when you first logged onto the Cathe Website your name and address are automatically entered into a hightech global positioning system which is manned by none other than the Cathe Police (quite often spoken of by various posters) themselves. They are quite flexible when it comes to modifying workouts and rotations, but you can NEVER actually quit exercising!!! If you try to quit......(now I can't verify this, but I've heard from some very reputable Catheites) the police will show up unannounced and suspend you using rope in reverse plyojack position and beat you with 10# or #20 pound dumbbells depending on what day it is (endurance vs. heavy days). So BEWARE.

And...go ahead and buy those weights, you'll be needing them!!!

Briee :) :)

LOL!!

Briee you have me laughing out loud here in my cube! My co-workers must think I'm nuts. But you are too funny! ;-) Thanks for the laugh.

RE: You CAN'T quit exercising

I have my track record of working out at gyms which is why I have this fear. I've joined so many gyms, workout religiously for about a month or so, then stop going for one reason or another.

But so far, working out at home, I've done this for 5 months straight!

RE: You CAN'T quit exercising

Beth, I think a lot of us have joined gyms at one time or another only to find that we don't go like we would like to. We don't see results, get discouraged and then quit. That's why working out at home is so good for me, anyway. 5 months is a great at home track record! I'd say you deserve to invest in a barbell for your efforts! lol

I'm ready to take the next step! http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein_1/a_smil09.gif

RE: You CAN'T quit exercising

I am going to go out and get a barbell tomorrow. After doing S&H this week, I just don't feel I'm getting the full benefits of the workout with just dumbells. I'll just have to hide it behind the door so I won't get any comments from the man. :)

RE: You CAN'T quit exercising

Hello Beth,
Oh, by the way, Briee forgot to tell you that she hosts a regular meeting for the Cathe obsessed. Feel free to join us and don't forget to bring your new barbell!!

RE: You CAN'T quit exercising

Yay Beth! You won't regret it! ;-)

RE: You CAN'T quit exercising

5 months is awesome! I'm only on my 3rd month, and bought my barbell 2 months ago. By the way, I love my Troy lite barbell set. It's the same one Cathe uses in S&H, and it's just perfect for me.
You will loving using the barbell.

See Briee....

...the Cathe Police scared Beth into going out and getting that barbell NOW!!! Have fun, Beth. With Cathe tapes, you will NOT regret it. They are much too addicting and she is always coming out with something fresh & new. No time for boredom! Let us know where you hide it when you get it home! ;-)

RE: See Briee....

Three cheers for the Cathe Police and to Beth who is making an incredibly lifechanging decision as well as keeping those police out of her hair!!! After helping her spend her money I feel we must help her find a place to hide the dumbell, not an easy task.

How about this, stand it on end and run a cord up the side with a light bulb and throw a lampshade over it. If he is like my dh he will never notice it!!

Or...how about an industrial towel rack. Men love overkill when it comes to funtional items. Make sure it is easily removable for workouts!!!

How about a paper weight for an entire years worth of papers?

And while were on the topic, how do you hide the preordered intensity series that I haven't yet told him about??? I have a few weeks to figure this one out. That UPS truck is awfully hard to disguise, especially when 5 mastiff's are barking to announce it's arrival.

RE: See Briee....

Well luckily the boyfriend doesn't pay attention to the videos I have. The pre-order I did at work so all that info. is on my work computer. Any tapes I have purchased I have taken out of the mail before he gets home from work.

I didn't have a chance to get the barbell this weekend, but I am doing it first thing after work tonight. The man is out of town for the week so I won't have any problems bringing the barbell in the house tonight.
