Rythmic Step-Doh! Question

Although I love this tape I don't do it very often cos I don't always have the time. Can someone please explain to me how to do that straddle step where you turn around, for the life of me I cannot get it. It's where you straddle and then do a 3-kick thing, I am always in the wrong place and it drives me crazy.

Hmm... this doesn't sound familiar. Do you maybe mean that six count squat off the step? Where you step up onto the step, step out, left leg down, left leg back up, right leg down, back up, step off the step... all this followed by the step kick front - kick side (from the warm-up)?

SO sorry if that seems jumbled...

I know which part you're talking about (I just did this yesterday!) - it's in the 3rd section near the end - it's sort of a repeater type thing - a knee, a kick, a hamstring or outside lift of some kind (?), then the straddle, then lift inside, turn and somehow you're back on the step facing forward ready for the drop squats and lunges. Now, I know those aren't the exact words for the cueing, but most people will recognize it now.

I get a little mixed up, too - so some one please help us on this one? I usually just quickly get back up on the step and turn around usually right in time for the squats/lunges, but it's not so pretty looking as Cathe and crew.

Aha!

Now i know what you're talking about (thanks Kotacam). Not sure if this will help but I just stepped it out here in my cube (where no one can see) and here's what I come up with. That part comes right after a powerhorse...

As an example(using right side), from the powerhorse over to the right end of the step, go into the knee-kick sequence (or just start off with a 3 knee repeater) where you are kicking with your left leg and pushing off the step with your right. After the 3rd kick, when your left foot has planted, step your right foot over the step to straddle it. Step up with your left foot (you should now be on the TV side of the step) and touch your left hand to right foot (I forget what the move is called), plant your right foot on floor, plant your left on the floor, step onto the step with your right foot and turn counter clockwise as you bring your left foot up so you are facing front again. At that point you are either just marching or going into the lunge off the side. That last part onto the step, you’re really sort of stepping on backwards with a turn., if that makes any sense at all.

This may or may not help- just keep trying it, it will come to you sooner or later! Good luck! :)

RE: Aha!

That's the one, I ALSO usually get back up on the step rather quickly so so as no to miss the squat. Thanks for the info. You know where Cathe says "did I get ya" where you are scooting around the step, she get's me every time. Do I have a problem or what!

I love that combo!!! I have to be honest, the only way I make it through that part is to simply not think about it.:) Sounds silly I know, but I know the steps and I know what foot I should end up on and where I should end up in relation to the step, so I only focust on proper stepping technique, but I don't worry about the actual steps...I just go for it and I've never had a problem that combo because of that approach.:) Yeah, I know I'm weird.:)

RE: Aha!

Lol, yes - when she asks "did I get ya" that's when I holler "YES!" at the TV.

Mee too Dee Dee. I just don't think too much about which way to turn and which foot ot put where. When I relaxed about this move, I learned it quickly. Once you learn it you will always have it. Like riding a bike!

RE: Aha!

Thank you Lizzie! That was it, I was missing the part about "step onto the step with your right foot and turn counter clockwise as you bring your left foot up so you are facing front again". Now, when I do this next week, I should get it (I do CK this week on Thurs.).
