running for the legs

Hi Cathe!

I just read the post about biking for trimmer legs and have a question... how do you achieve trim (more so than muscle bulky) legs with running? I know running is a great workout for the legs, but sometimes I feel like my legs bulk up rather than become lean and trim.

Just a theory here, but for building bulk one uses heavier weight and fewer reps; for "toning" it's lighter weights and more reps. Running is repetitive, so I wonder if your weight would have anything to do with it? (i.e., if you're heavier you'd build a bulkier muscle that a lighter-weight person)?

I have talked to a few ladies who have told me their legs became thicker with running. Maybe it's genetic? Susan
