Runners' May 18 Tuesday

Hi! I'm new here!

I hope you don't mind me joining in!! I'm a runner who has recently discovered Cathe DVD's!! I loooove them!! I've only been running about 2 yrs now but have really gotten into the running/ racing thing in the last year. I did my first 5K last June & did a half marathon in Sept. Then I was training to do a full marathon in April but ended up w/ bad tendonitis in my foot in Jan & had to take 2 mos off from running! :-( But, it was good in some ways because I had to really focus on doing weight training & other things that I still could do!! I got Muscle Max & began doing that twice a week & just this week got Pyramid Upper & Lower body & Kick Max. I did Upper body today- loved it!! I also do Pilates which I love also!

Anyway, I did a 12K two weeks ago, a 10 mile race last Sat, and just have a 5K coming up on Sat. I've been trying to only run 3-4 days a week (I really don't want any more injuries!) & biking once a week plus doing my videos!

Just thought I'd introduce myself. Hope you don't mind me posting here!!

Hugs,

RE: Hi! I'm new here!

Mattea- The tempo run is one that Sarah gave me. You warm up for 5 min and then beginning at 6.0 mph bump .1 up every two minutes until you hit 7.3 then go back down .1 for one min until you reach 6.0 mph again. Then cool down 5 minutes.

Barb- My first 5k I thought I knew where I was going until there was an accident right before the race and then they changed course. This 5k I don't have a clue. I'm hoping just to follow the cones.

Christine- How fun to go climbing. It's just beautiful on the picture. It probably even better in person. It's like you own Amazing Race.

Hey I was thinking if anyone would like we could post some of our favorite runs ( tempo, speed intervals) to share with the group. What do you think?

RE: Hi! I'm new here!

Hi all! Sorry I'm not really a regular poster all the way over here in the Checkins and Challenges. :)

I've cut my running waaay back this week (as in, ran Sunday and not again until today) due to the fact my right arch doesn't have any skin on it... STILL... and I've got a 10k on Sunday!!

I didn't want to do P90X legs yesterday so I did the 49 minute timesaver Gym Style legs... and don't notice anything today! I'm surprised no DOMS!! Maybe tomorrow, LOL...

Today, I ended up running 4 miles but did so in 4 parts. The bootcampers had a long run, but I just did the last mile of it to meet them coming from the opposite direction and then came back with them. Once for 6am, once for 7am. So, I guess I ran some. :p

Nothing but rest planned for the next few days before the 10k. Well, if you consider P90X muscle workouts "rest", LOL. ;)

I'm so excited to see everyone running and checking in- keep it up!!! I'm with you in spirit!!!

Christine, I'm *relieved* to hear your foot is feeling better!!! Go slow for the next few days. ;)

Hi all,

DD had a talent show this morning, the school had a book fair tonight at Barnes & Noble, and on top of that I had computer problems most of the day so no internet access this morning (aargh :)) Suffice it to say I haven't had a chance to read all the posts. Since everything is working now, I'll try and get caught up tonight after I clean up the dinner dishes. :)

Today was PLB + 25min bike ride. Yesterday was a 3 mile run. Tuesday was PUB (biceps are still a little tender. :))

I'll post more after I get caught up on what's going on around here. :) (better yet, maybe I'll reply tomorrow since I doubt anyone will see it today.)

TTYL!

Gayle (and Christine), These are the races I know I'll be running in the near future.

Sat May 20 - Kristen Smart 4 mile run.
Sun May 28 - Strawberry Stampede 10K.
Sun Jun 4 - Marianne Talley 5K.
Sun Jul 16 - Sonoma Wine Country 1/2 marathon
Sat Oct 7 - St. George Marathon

There is at least one other 1/2 middle of June that I am considering and another 4 mile run also in June that is a possibility. I like the crowds and the variation in running routes these races provide and run them for speedwork. If I sign up for the others I'll let you know.

Christine, It would be so much fun if you made it down to this area to run any of the races I listed. The one this Sat. is the inaugural so I don't know what it will be like. I know the course since it's about a mile or so from my house and it's very hilly.

But, if you were able to make it down for either the Marianne Talley 5K or the Strawberry Stampede (where you can run either a 5K or 10K) they would both be worth your while. The Talley 5K is at a vineyard and is run on dirt roads surrounding it. I love this 5K! Here is the website: www.talleyvineyards.com

The Strawberry Stampede is a regular thing in Arroyo Grande for the Strawberry Festival over Memorial Day weekend. It has a very large turnout. The 10K course is a bit hilly in the beginning but flattens out for the most part after the initial hills. The 5K is an out and back with a slight uphill to the turnaround. I've run both and love them both! Here's the website for that: www.strawberrystampede.com
