Good Morning Girls:)

Now...don't think I am a thread hogger:) I just happen to be awake before everyone else:) I doubt that I will be tomorrow morning though.

I managed to do a 5 mile run last night after work.It was late by the time I got around to it so it wouldn't have taken much to change my mind.I don't think I finished till 10:40 and thats late when you have to work the next morning.
So...right now, I am going to do HSC and something else tonight.I was thinking about running again, but I would like to go for a long run tomorrow...or maybe I will save my long run for Sat.

Have a good day everyone and I will check back later,
Lori:)

Good morning runners

No Lori you are not hogging and yes if you are the first oone up its nice you start...:)

I don't know how you manage to run that late!! Wow...if I don't do it in the morning I probably won't...so GREAT job!

I forgot to say hi to Josie! How have you been??? I am training for a couple of runs but no marathons...

I'l be doing PLB standing and a 5 mile run today...

Enjoy your runs today...:)

I managed to survive the treadmill workout you posted Lori. That was awesome and extremely hard for me too. I had to adjust some of the speeds because I'm not so efficient at running faster than 5.5 right now. I plan to work up to it, though.

Thanks for posting it! It reminded me of the very first time I did IMAX 1. Great feeling.

Good Morning Gals!
Carole, I had to push myself to do it.I had a coffee around 8 which I shouldn't have done. Its funny b/c if my schedule is jam packed, I always find the time to do everything...but if I am off all day and I don't workout in the morning..then it doesn't get done.I have to put my sneakers on as soon as my coffee is gone.Strange, hey?

Jen, the workout was good? And you compared it to Imax1! Ugh....that one makes me cringe!:+ The warm up is so long that it turns me off...LOL Im glad you enjoyed it and your speed will increase, everything takes time!
Lori:)

I thought the warm up was a little long too, I just increased my speed to a fast-paced walk. I had to adjust some of the inclines as my treadmill only goes up to a 10% incline.

But overall, a good interval-like cardio incorporating running. I think the ups and downs reminded of IMAX.

Ok girls I'm done my run for today. I ran five miles this morning and then did 25 min of yoga. I was going to try and run 6 to 8 miles but I have a lot on the plate as far as the kids today so I opted for the 5 mile run and the yoga. This way I got in my run and I got in the yoga which helps me to run with less injury. Have a great run today ladies. karen

good morning!
forgot to post yesterday!
yesterday's workout: ran 3miles and did SS firm it up
today's workout: TJ's fat blaster and almost all of Tear it up

ya'll are doing great!

take care:)

I'm running 5-6 days a week, well its a run/walk at the moment, and am wondering about adding in weights. I was thinking I'd do PS for 8 wks, then GS series for 8 and then SH for 8. Something like that. Should I do the weights daily (meaning, I would do each tape twice a week) or would just once every other day be sufficient and the run/walk daily?

No running for me today, I am doing a full body endurance weight workout at the gym. I did a 30 min run/walk yesterday after work on the treadmill at the gym. It went well, except I forgot my headphones so couldn't watch tv. Treadmill running is soooo boring without tv or music or anything.

I can't wait until I can do 5-6 mile daily runs like all of you! This check in is so inspiring!

By the way, I was so excited this morning because I stepped on the scale for the first time in a couple of weeks and I had lost 2 lbs and 1.5% body fat! I am now down to my goal weight. The only thing that changed is adding the running - my diet and weight lifting remained basically the same. And this is only from a 30 min run/walk 4 time a week, I can't imagine the changes in my health once I start running longer.

Hope everyone has a great run today!

I agree, I can't wait until I can run straight for at least 3 miles. I feel like the run/walk is not getting me in the right direction as far as weight loss. That's why I upped it from the 4x/wk to 5-6. I just felt like I needed more cardio. Once I can run at least 3 miles I will cut back to 4x.

It took me about a little over a month for run/walk 4x a week to lose 2 lbs. It was the last 2 pounds, which can be the hardest, but that still seems like a long time! As for the weights question, I would think it would be fine to only do the videos once a week each. If I do a split workout, I usually do the upper body each once a week but the lower body twice, just because I like to focus more on my lower body. Maybe you could do the entire split workout once a week, and then do a full body workout once a week, so that you hit each body part twice but aren't weight lifting every day. Right now I am currently doing a full body workout once a week, and and upper body split and lower body split the other days, so I am working each body part twice a week.

Cbelle, one more thing, sorry to keep posting. You might want to consider still only run/walking 4x a week but adding in 1 or 2 days of cross training to add in more cardio. I am thinking of doing this as well, either Cathe step, elliptical, spinning, kickboxing etc. Since we are just starting out, it might be too much too soon to run 5-6 days a week and I don't want to get injured. Even more experienced runners like Sarah say that they don't run more than 3 times a week to prevent injury and cross train on the other days. And I can also do those activities for longer (1 hr instead of 30 min) so the cardio burn is double!

Hello All!

It sounds like everyone is having terrific runs. I'm really enjoying this check-in.

Yesterday I ran my 3 miles during lunch. Today I was going to do interval runs, but instead I need to take my almost 7 month DD to the doctor. She was diagnosed on Monday with her 5th ear infection. However the medication is causing her to throw up a lot so the doctor is going to give her a shot instead. I guess my will run intervals tomorrow instead.

Awesome runs so far you guys! Especially those of you who are just starting out. I remember how HARD running felt the first time I tried it seriously. And I had been doing Cathe for almost a year already, lol.
10:40 is late when you have to work the next day, and you're running to workout. But sometimes in the summer DH and I go for "moonruns" (in the back fields in the country) b/c the heat finally breaks and neither of us was up early enough to beat the heat. It's somehow magical and makes you totally focus on your body in its motion. Very zen =-)
No running yesterday, I like my face unfrostbitten, thank you very much
Today I actually squeezed in a run;-) A thirty minute interval run, outside after I finished Muscle Max this morning. I was already pretty warmed up from MM, so I only jogged for about a minute and then went right into one minute on, one minute off intervals until about 27:00 and then went into a cool-down jog home. It felt awesome. I used to dread interval runs, but they go by so quickly now, I'm grinning (and then grimacing) while I sprint. :7
Good luck today!
Mattea

LOL!!! Did Diane say I am an "experienced runner"?? Don't let all my talk fool ya!!;) I have only been running for 14 months!! However, I have learned so much about the sport by leaching onto the experienced runners like Elaine (toughYrun) and Carole. I find out what they eat and eat it. I find out what they read and read it. I find out how they cross train and do it. I just copy what they do. If Elaine sneezes, then I cram something in my nose to induce a sneeze...poor woman can't shake me off of her hip!:7 Hope she never does, I'd be totally lost without her!

ANYAWY...I did 10K on the treadmill bright and early. First few miles were rough, as they usually are on a treadmill. Once my body adjusted, I hit "the zone" and it was so hard to stop at 6.2...however, I had to get DD to school and help a neighbor with their DD. Man, it ended up being an excellent run!

Glad to hear you ladies are tearing it up!

Diane, yeah that idea of doing a Cathe cardio video for 2 days/wk is probably a good one. Smart girl!

Stillhavent really heard any others pipe in on the how often I should be doing the wts though. again, your idea to do the 3 day split and then 1 full wts is probably the best compromise. :)

Sarah, I consider you an experienced runner! 14 months is about 7 times longer than I have been running consistently. You are also such an inspiration to me because I hope to be close to where you are in 14 more months from now! Sooo....what have you (or Elaine or Carole) been eating, reading, and crosstraining, and exactly how often do you sneeze? ;-)

Cbelle,
It may take some experimenting as well as adjustment as your mileage increases. Right now I try to run three day's week, 2 full weights, one circuit, 2 other days (at least of crosstraining cardio, step, kickbox, hi/lo, bike).
Pretty soon I am going to try an incorporate a two day split for my upper body, but I think I'll continue with legs in the same way that I have been-slightly lighter weights, more endurance, sometimes freestyling.
HTH,
Mattea

Howdy awesome runners!

Lori, I agree with Carole and think you’re not a thread hog and I too am thankful you are able to get this started. Geez, I’m glad I don’t have to get it started since I’m on the West coast AND I can’t get on here until my first break or lunch anyway which is probably about the time you all are thinking of evening activities! Oh, and ditto to what Mattea says about everyone’s great runs no matter the level! Thanks for sharing your runs everybody! I know I’ve been so happy lately being able to run again even if it is just on the treadmill for now. I’m sure I’ll get the outside run bug as soon as the rain and snow let up.

Sarah, I chuckled at your post as I have paid pretty close attention to both Carole and Elaine’s posts regarding their workouts. Of course you probably have a bit more “inside” info though! ;-) I wouldn't mind gathering more info too. You and the gals are still my inspiration to get back to being as fit as I used to be, and it is working!! Thanks ladies!!

Oh, and I just wanted to share that I bought new running shoes to go with my new treadmill and what a big difference! I know better about keeping up on the shoes, but I had not purchased any since last summer since I wasn’t able to run. Oh boy do I love my new shoes, but the only thing is I just want to keep running! LOL

My favorite running shoes are Mizuno Wave Rider ---what are your favorite(s)???
