Good Morning Ladies.

Sarah...what is it now...ONE MORE DAY!? :+ :+ :+

And to all who have upcoming races: Best of luck!!!!:)

So I'm headed to the gym today. I downloaded 2 ITrain workouts. One is for treadmill and the other for elliptical. They are both 40 mins long. I will do one today though I'm not sure which yet. :p

Hope anyone who has running on the schedule has a great one!

TGIF!:+

Good morning. I didn't get a chance to check in here yesterday...just busy around the house and with the kids. Some days are better than others! Seems like I had more time online when I worked! LOL

GOOD LUCK, RACERS!!!!!!!!!!!! KICK SOME BUTT! I'll be thinking of each and everyone of you this weekend. In your honor, I am going to ATTEMPT the tempo run that Karen posted (thanks, Sarah) the other day. SO when I'm huffing and puffing I'll think of you! YOU ROCK!!!!!

OK..this morning for me was Body Max. This was one of my very first Cathe workouts (along with PUB/PLB) and it brings back memories. AND, it's still HARD! LOL I did all except the lower body weight sections.

I got a link for all the photos of my half marathon from last weekend, but I'm searching thru the lost and found for more of me! LOL. I'll post a link when I get a chance!

Happy FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gayle

Good Morning Wendy. Please let me know how the Itrain works out for you. I usually just run to my favorite songs but it's always good to have a change up to fall back on. I was thinking of cardio coach until I read you downloaded these. So let me know how it goes.

Today I am going to do 60 min of yoga. I hardly got any sleep last night because of being so excited about my first ever 5K tomorrow. Anyone else who is racing tomorrow good luck. I can't wait to be there with all of you in spirit. I'm sure I will have so much emotion with this being my first, and I'm sure I will think of the wonderful women who got me to stand on that finish line. Your encoument has meant so much.

Good luch Sarah.

Gayle I can't wait to see your photos as well. I have to say looking at peoples hard work and dedication is so inspiring. My dh has my camera all ready for tomorrow. I have no idea how I am going to breathe and clear my mind doing yoga this morning with so much excitment going on.

Wendy, You are going to love what the running/elliptical combo will do for your lower half!! Not to mention, the elliptical helps so much to improve your running. I am seeing it in print more and more! Also, it has helped me so much! LOVE the elliptical!

Gayle, Oh...I cannot wait to see your pictures! I love race photos! They took some at my 15K in March but they were so boring! No clock or "Finish" in the pictures or anything...just a group of sweaty people running! I told my mom if I can find a place that can use some fancy technology to print a bull in the background of my pictures so that it looks like we are all being chased...then I'd buy them!

Karen, If you find a chance to nap today...take it! It's not the night before the race that counts when it comes to sleep...it's the night before that! Try to relax and think of soothing thoughts to get the heart rate down. I have been thinking back to my nursing days and that seems to calm me down a lot. I just eliminate the part where they spit up all over me and I have to change. How can something so warm make me react like ice water was just dumped on me? Never any warning..

Well, aren't you all glad to hear from me!!:p I hate putting my long run off until Sunday...but since it will barely be Sunday when I start the marathon...

Oh, my...I cannot believe it is almost here! I will go to the Expo today and pick up my race number and timing chip...now the butterflies are fluttering!

Hi Everyone,
I realized I forgot to say "hi" yesterday since I'm new and just launched right in yammering away ...Thank you for saying "welcome" yesterday.

I've been running for a long time, but only training for an event in the past 9 months or so. I've been inspired by the runners on the forum and by Cathe in general and have decided to try to run a 1/2-marathon in June. I have 2 kids, ages 9 & 12, and try to work out in the early a.m. and sometimes if I miss it, I do it after they go to school. I work part-time, but duties at home are far more difficult for me!

Today is a no-run day for me to get ready for a long run tomorrow. I'm trying to build up that long run to get ready for race day. I'm up to 9.5 miles, but felt pretty wiped out after I did that.

Karen, Good luck on your 5K tomorrow and to all the others racing tomorrow.

Gayle -- I can't believe you were up for Body Max after your race. You must have amazing stamina. You have inspired me to go for it -- as I was on the fence about whether to go for it or bail.

Wendy -- Is ITrain fun? I've heard of it, but haven't looked into it.

I did a TurboJam workout this a.m. and am going to walk with a friend this afternoon.
I'm mentally gearing up for tomorrow's run. I'm heading out in my car after I drop of my kids at school to see if the path I am envisioning is the right distance.

Any advice on hydration pack systems or carrying a water bottle during a long run? Someone at a running store told me that "fuel belts" drove him crazy and he wouldn't use one again. I'm not coordinated enough to grab water from a helper during a race. I will probably run into a table or something!! LOL

Have a great day!

-Barb

Good morning runners

Wendy...enjoy your Itrain treadmill workout..

Gayle...that would be fun to see pics of your half!

Good luck Karen...can't wait to see how you do. The excitement will be inspiring...

Kristi...hope the kids feel better and you find some good shoes. Findinf the right shoe can take some time..:)

Barb...that is awful the pollen count bothers you so much! All it does do me is makes my eyes itchy and I sneeze alot! The last 2 days have been alot better..Good job on the tempo run and not being so sore after..I carry a bottle with a hand strap on my long runs. I also have a belt for really long runs when I won't be around water . It holds a bottle and has another compartment for stuff. Took a bit of getting used to but I love it now.

Kathy...thanks for sharing the pics! I think my sister has those shorts...I might have to try them too!

Good luck with St George Elaine, and your upcoming 10K!

Mattea...no I haven't tried those things for my allergies, but I do prefer natural remedies...thnk you I will look into those! You did LL and THEN GS Floor...WOW!!!

Amy..hope your knee is better...maybe some new shoes!!...:)

SARAH!!!!....its getting closer.....:)...and there is no way in he@# I would want you to trip! !! You are going to do great...:)...good luck...yes, Wendy...ONE MORE DAY FOR SARAH!

Good luck also to the other racers this weekend!!

I'll be doing PUB Back and a 6 mile run

Have a great day...:)

Good morning lovely running ladies! TGIF!!!

I am taking a much needed rest day in order to get ready for my "long" run tomorrow. "Long" because compared to so many of you, it's short, but I'll get there! :+

Sarah - Oh ENJOY tomorrow! I can only imagine the excitment you feel! I'm excited for you!

Karen - I'm excited for you too! Your first 5k! You have a great time, and just enjoy the experience. Don't worry about speed, although I'm sure you'll kick butt!

Is anyone else racing this weekend?

Kristi - hope the kids are feeling better!

Barb - I do like my hydration pack and have used it on longer runs, but I'm used to it from hiking. I'm not a fan of carrying anything in my hands, so it works well for me (and I know I'm no speed demon - so it doesn't hinder my speed).

Amy - I'm looking forward to Sunday! Although if it is hot we might want to consider Sanborn - all trees there. :) Your test is today, right? Good luck!

Have a fab day everyone!

Thanks Sarah, Carol, Christine and Barb. I'm off to a boat/flower show at the marina near our home. It's going to be a nice relaxing day. I just found out they are having a triatolon right here in my neck of the woods in July stating at the marina. It's like a 1.5 mile swim, 50 k bike ride, and a 10 k run. Maybe a goal to obtain next year.

Hi everyone!

Wendy, I recently bought a couple of cardio coach workouts. I've tried one and it was OK. I'm sure that I will like it alot once I get used to it. Have you ever used Cardio Coach? I'm wondering how they compare to Itrain.

Carole, Thanks for the St. George "good luck". I'm living in fear that I will be nothing more than a hanging chad! The 10K tomorrow should be fun. I tend to look at shorter races as speedwork since I don't ever really focus on training for them. Nor do I do them often enough to have a feel for what my time will (or should) be.

Sarah, What's for dinner tonight??? Carbs, carbs and more carbs?

Gayle, BodyMax is tough! I haven't done it in it's entirety for a loooong time. Thanks for reminding me about that gem. I think I might be able to fit a circuit/endurance workout into my schedule.

Karen, I'll be thinking about you tomorrow! You are going to love the experience and I predict that you'll be looking around for your next race by the day after!

Hope I didn't miss anyone!

Yesterday I did PUB for the first time in a long time. My biceps have DOMS like you wouldn't believe. Everything else is fine but holy cow, my biceps are humming today!

Since I'll be running a 10K tomorrow I think I'll forgo my normal Friday run and hop on the elliptical. Better get some core work in there too.

If I don't check back in before all of the Saturday races then "Good Luck" to all of you but most of all HAVE FUN!!!!

Editing to wave hello to Christine and to tell her that the long in long run is relative and that she is doing GREAT and that I can't wait to meet her and the others for the 1/2 in July!:)

*Waves hello back to Elaine*

And I forgot to mention your race! Have fun! 10k's are a nice distance. I'm looking forward to meeting you in July as well! It's going to be fun!

Wendy-So what was it today elliptical or treadmill? Did ITrain work better than just music on the ipod?

Gayle-I have a love-hate-hate-hate-love r/p with Bmax, I had big dread factor on this one for so long, and then I did Cathe's Aug. 2005 rotation and finally fell into the groove with it. And I just got it on DVD and now can use it in pieces so much more easily (so use it to pieces I guess, lol!)

Karen-I'll be thinking about you as you cross that finish line! I for one am proud of your amazing journey up to this point and am in awe of your spirit and determination.

Sarah-Now take your own advice and think happy, soothing thoughts! You are going to have an amazing experience (the first of many I would say). Your body knows how to run this marathon, your mind knows how to run this marathon-so just turn your self off and let them get to work!}(

Barb-I plan on getting a fuel belt, but until then DH actually carries by gatorade/water for me in his hands. My running pace is easy for him so he doesn't mind. I know, I'm spoiled:p

Carole-Yes, um, serious DOMS today and last night, LOL. This is a great lower body killer and it's making me slow to get started today!

Kathy-I always thought tighter shorts would creep up less, but I'm going to have to try some like in your pics (which are way inspiring BTW:7 ).

Amy-Hope you knees are feeling better!

Kristi-Shoes? Shoes? I love shoes and it's not time for new ones for me yet, but can I live vicariously through you?

Christine-Enjoy your rest day! Just think how long your run is compared to someone who doesn't run at all! You are doing awesome and doing it right, building slow and steady.

Elaine-Yes, 10K as speedwork, you are one iron lady!

Today I'm aiming for a six mile run and some Bryan Kest. I made sure to get a lot of sleep last night in hopes of alleviating some of the major, major DOMS from my LL/GSL combo yesterday and it worked somewhat so we'll see how far my legs take me, lol!

Good luck racers!
Mattea

Morning runners,
Sorry, I have to make this check in quick. I had an online Accting test to take this morning and was late for work. Ugh, what a procrastinator I am! So now I’m “behind” on everything.

Last night I ran 4 miles using Cardio Coach Volume 6 (with Candance) and this morning I did Low Impact Step, Power Hour, and the first section of Total Body Stretching.

I have a question for all you great stretchers and yoga fans. I’d like to get a good stretch or yoga DVD that focuses on hip and lower body. Any suggestions? I have Rodney Yee’s Yoga for Athletes, Baron Baptiste’s Core Power and Unlocking Athletic Power, Cathe’s stretch DVDs, and Karen Voight’s Simple Stretch.

Oh, Barb I have a fuel belt and have never used it. I don’t like the feeling of something on my waist like that but guess I’ll have to get used to it eventually. Right now I buy a package of 8 oz. bottles at the grocery store and hide them along my route before I run. I run the same 6 mile course (multiple times for long runs) so it takes me an extra 15 minutes to hide them, lol! It works well for me though, I can just toss them in the garbage cans on the jog path when I’m done.

WooHoo, go Sarah! I’m sure you’ll do fantastic this weekend on your marathon. I can’t wait to hear your race report.

Good luck on your first ever 5k, Karen. You’ll do super, just relax and enjoy it, okay?

Have a great time Elaine, 10k’s are so much fun!

I’m so glad you’re allergies are getting better, Carole.

Waves to everyone else, I’ll check back in later when things settle down and see if you have any suggestions for me. I really need to stretch because I’m having some hip discomfort after runs and last marathon I had IT band issues. I’m going to take coming back slower this time, so I cross train on the elliptical & bike and do some step. Ooops, guess this wasn’t so short after all.

Kathy G

Thanks to everyone for all the fuel-belt tips and suggestions.

I will think about the hand-held bottle, Carole. I'm not sure which will annoy me more, a belt or holding something in my hand. The belt won't bother me because I'm a speed demon, though!

Kathy, very clever to hide water bottles. It's like blending the fun of an Easter Egg hunt with hydration.

Mattea-You are a lucky lady!

-Barb

:) :) :)

Karen-I just took a peek at one picture of me and MAN...I never knew I looked THAT focussed and determined when I run! LOL I'm still looking for more, but I can't find any yet. GOOD LUCK TOMORROW! In your honor (and Sarah's honor), I'm doing your tempo run on the TM tomorrow JSUT FOR YOU GALS!

Sarah-good advice for Karen, to get some rest today. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!! I"M SO PUMPED about your marathon!

Barb-I'm glad I have helped you! LOL. GOOD FOR YOU for committing to the half! Which race, when, where, DETAILS, GAL! LOL As for hydration, I LOVE MY FUEL BELT! I tried a Camleback but didn't like the sloshing, and I tried the water bottle holder, same thing. I really like my Fuel Belt...perhaps you should try a few before deciding on one? For me, I prefer to have it on and not need it. I REALLY hate slowing down for the water stops, and wearing my belt lets me stay right in the middle of the road and avoid the traffic jam there.

Christine-enjoy your DOR. How many miles is it this weekend for you? You are doing GREAT!!!!!!!!

Mattea-enjooy your miles today! My legs are extremely sore from PLB yesterday, but Body Max step section really knocked the soreness out of them...until now! LOL

Elaine-For whatever reason, I ALWAYS get bicep DOMS after PUB. Enjoy your 10K tomorrow! KICK BUTT, GIRL!

Now, wighed in this morning, and I'm down 1.6 from last Friday...LOVE the half marathon and all the food I ate last Sunday and STILL LOST! LOL Running has SO MANY BENEFITS! LOL

Run on, ladies! Keep on TRUCKIN'!!!!!!!!!

Gayle

Goodluck sarah on your marathon!!!! Our thoughts will be with you all the way!!!! Just imagine all of us girls waiting at the finish to congratulate you!!!!

what are these Itrain downloads and where can I get them? I did my cheetah fast workout on the treadmill yesterday and it about killed me. Today I ran 5 miles. It was gorgeous out today!!!!!

gayle and carole hope you two have good workouts today. You two along with sarah has really helped alot of runners out here on the forum. I appreciate everything I have learned from you all and hope to conttinue to learn from the terrific three!!
:) :) :) you ladies rock!!!!!!!!!

I dont have a race this weekend but I do have my longest run yet, 14miles on sunday. and then its taper time for my half may 21st. Next weekend I have another 5k. Tomorrow I wont be able to report in until late since I have a pilates course all day long. hope everyone has a nice day.

Good morning all! Sounds like everyone is getting some great workouts.
Laura- I just got the Cheetah fast workout myself and it is a real
butt kicker of a workout! 14 miles on Sunday? You go girl!

Elaine and Karen- best of luck to you tomorrow. Relax and have FUN:)
Mattea- I did some Bryan Kest yesterday. Someday I HOPE to be able
go accomplish those poses. It is quite challenging. LL/GSL combo?
That sounds like a real leg killer of a workout:eek:

Barb- way to go on commiting to a half marathon! I also use a fuel
belt and I love it! But everyone is unique on what works for them.

Gayle- BMax is one of my favorites. It's amazing you can do this so soon after your race. I can't wait for BMax 2.

Carole and Sarah- I'll be racing tomorrow and thinking of you two
especially as my inspiration.

ShellyC

Okay you smart ladies! Gayle asked me how many miles I'm doing this weekend. I have a question on that...

According to Hal's training schedule, I'm supposed to run (2) three mile runs this week and my long run is 4 miles. I'm already running more than that. My long run last weekend was 5 miles.

I was planning on running six this weekend. Should I run six which will be a little push for me (5 was doable with no stress, six would be a push), or should I run 5 again just to get my body used to running?

Oh - Shelly - I'm sooo sorry - I forgot to include you! Good Luck tomorrow!!! Have fun!

Hi gals.

Sarah...I am so excited for you girl! I can't wait to hear about how it went once the marathon is over!!!:) Thanks for your post! Anything that will improve the lower body is ALWAYS a good thing and anything to improve my running works great too!:+

Everyone who asked about ITrain...I went to the gym this morning lookin' to do the treadmill w/o but to my surprise there were no treadmills available-this is odd too b/c they have many and I have NEVER had a problem. The gym was extraordinarily crowded today. Soooo...on the elliptical I went for the ITrain Climb 40 mins. work out. This work out can also be done on a stair climber machine as per the website.

Anywhooo...it was a fab work out!:) The instructor had a very pleasant voice w/a good personality and he was motivating w/o being a complete dork about it! LOL The music was fun and the work out gave me a goal to strive towards. Something to work for. I didn't feel like I was just "spinning my wheels" aimlessly. I like to have someone "lead" me. I am so used to that from my years of doing videos at home so it worked very well for me. I was sweating buckets! He changed the speed and resistance just enough to alleviate boredom and every time I was just about thinking that I had had enough he would say something to keep me pushing and not giving up! I am very happy with it!:+ Hopefully on tuesday I can try the treadmill one.

TTYL!:7

Christine-My opinion would be to do the 4 or the 5. If 6 is going to be a push for your body, then I would definitely go with 4 or 5. Let your body get used to that and do 6 when you're really supposed to do 6! Hope that helps. SLOW AND STEADY wins the race!

I was planning on the tempo treadmill run ala Karen and Sarah for tomorrow, but MAN IS MY LOWER HALF SORE! LOL. It calls for a 5 minute warmup before the actual 'hard' part starts, so maybe I'll just warm up longer than that and then go for it! We'll see.

Happy Friday night. Steaks on the grill and corn on the cob for dinner! YUM YUM!

Gayle
