runners check in 6/6/06

RE: Good morning, Cheetah runners!

Getting ready to go off and running for a Girl scout meeting for planning next year. I am going to Denny's so I'm thinking BIG SALAD.

Barbars- Hope you had a nice day at the gym

Amy- 95 min is awesome.

Wendy- How much are the itread workouts? Are they more expensive then the iclimb ones. Which do you like better.

Mattea- wow, fantastic gifts. I love the roadrunner pendant. Do you mind sharing where she got it if you know?

Thomasina- Gald to hear from you again. I can see why you have not been here with that nasty strep. I just got over a nastly cold myslef and then the ITBand. I'm glad I'm done with sickness. You will be soon too. Take care.

Christine- Oh my gosh. Last night I called my girls in for there baths and I go to comb out the baby's hair and her one ear is the size of an adult hand. I almost fell on the floor. You could hardly see the hole in her ear. I said to her did somthing sting you or bite you. She said I don't know. Good thing she didn't. I mean to tell you she looked like Dumbo on one side. So when my dh got home which was about 15 min he looked in her ear as best as he could to see if he could see a bite or tick or somthing and he saw two little teeth bites ( we are assuming spider). I called the doctor who said give her benedryl around the clock and lay her in epsom salt in warm to hot water to draw out the sting and infection. We did that all night. He said if it spiders across her face by morning bring her in. So this morning when she got up she look better. Her ear was half the size as the night before and she said it itched. Right now it looks 1/4 from being normal but I tell you it scared the heck out of me. If you would have seen her ear you would have been no more good. I am in the I hate spiders too and so is she now.

RE: Good morning, Cheetah runners!

Karen-My gosh! Glad DD is feeling better. DH is FREAKED by spiders and I won't be sharing that story with him, lol! Actually, it's an antique charm that she found in a local shop and purchased the chain separately. However, when I googled it I found a couple of options that are similar

I'll try to get a pic up in the next few day!

RE: Good morning, Cheetah runners!

Oh, great. Still have not found Mr. Spider yet, and now I'm going to be TOTALLY freaked! :)

Seriously though, Karen - glad to hear the swelling is going down. It's bad enough when things like that happen to us, but when they happen to the little ones - oh it's heart wrenching. Hope all is well soon.

Thomasina - GREAT TO HEAR FROM YOU! I think I'm going to be with you in the back of the race - we can take turns pulling each other in a little red wagon or something. I need to sit down with myself and give myself a good talking to. The last few weekends have been horrible for running. I'm actually nervous to go out and run again. I figure, though, that at the very very least, I can do the 10k. That I KNOW I can run... I have six weeks to get over that fear and to go for it!

Mattea - glad to hear the birthday was so fabulous - with such incredible gifts!! Sounds like you have a fabulous family. That's great.

RE: Good morning, Cheetah runners!

Quick hello cheetahs,

too busy today to post. Did a recovery run and a little light lower body ME and stretch today.

Christine--you can do it! It's discouraging to have a few bad runs, feel heavy-legged and blah, but you will get through this. It was at the 6 week before my race point I had a major "breakdown" and needed to review whether it made sense for me to do the race. I'm rooting for you!!

Karen-- sorry about the bug bite and enormo-ear! How scary. When my kids were in Kindegarten and 3rd grade, we had a bat bite incident (ugh) it was scary. Great, though, you're feeling good about workouts.

Mattea-thanks for the nice words. Glad you had a fun bday!

Carole-- funny about the Chaturanga to face plant. That is the truth for me! Splat!!

Judy--I don't know if it was here or on open discussion, but congrats on losing weight with ETL!

Thomasina-- I think you're on to the million-dollar invention here: an adult jog stroller? It would be amazing and sell -)

Hi to everyone else, sorry to be short on time, but I'm sending you all Cheetah hugs!!
Barb :)

RE: Good morning, Cheetah runners!

OH my Christine! NO, NO, NO, NO freaking out about the run in 6 weeks. YOU can totally do this! You're in great shape and you continue to workout and crosstrain so don't sweat it. Don't let the 6 weeks scare you or those few lousy runs. You are going to do great and do remember that a huge percent of running these things is a mental game. Keep telling yourself how strong and steady you'll run this and continue to pep talk yourself while training. (Wow, now I just need to practice what I preach here each time I approach a &!@#&!@#! Hill... lol I repeat my new mantra over and over.... "Hills are my friend" "Hills are my friend".) ..And besides, I was only KIDDING about the baby jogger! (I did LOL at the red wagon though) Get out and run again, girl, you'll see that you scared yourself for nothin'! And lastly, don't make me have to run faster to catch up with you and your long legs just to make you finish this dang thing! :+ :p

RE: Good morning, Cheetah runners!

Thanks Barb for noticing about the weight loss. It was on an E2L thread I believe. Today was abs and a streth and golf :)
Tomorrow will be 6 or 7 miles preceded by upper body.

Wendy- goog going on the wrokout today!

I have to give up the computer for kids' homework, so 'Hi' to all who visit here !!

Carole- I am glad to hear that you thought of the Cheetahs to get through your post PLB run.

Hello Cheetahs!

The cruise was great! I had a really good time with my mom, my aunt, and my cousins. I did indulge in a few spirits and dessert, but I wasn't a glutton. Also, I worked out every day. Friday I did P90X Legs and Back in the cabin using the bands. Christine, I completely agree with you about Legs and Back -- my butt and inner thighs were sore the rest of the cruise. It happens everytime I do that workout. It doesn't seem like it should cause that kind of doms. :) Saturday I did speedork in the ship's fitness center. Only 4.5 miles instead of 5 miles because I was meeting my family to disembark in Nassau (however, I cut the .5 mile from the cool down, not the speedwork), and Sunday was a 4mile easy run (this is a recovery week on my training schedule for my 5k) and I added on an extera .5mile, and also I did P90X Chest and Back. Yesterday was a planned rest day, and today is turning into a rest day. Yikes! I was better at sea. :)

Karen, so sorry to read about your grandmother and your daughter. Hope they're feeling better.

Jess, I hope your grandmother is doing better too.

Carole, Sadie is a cutie!

Although I'm not a lover of spiders, I just can't bring myself to kill them. I usually try to scoop them out of the house with a dustpan, cardboard, or something like that. However, Karen's daughter's experience may make me reassess that.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and I especially hope the racers had fun and exceeded their expectations!

Hopefully I'll be caught up on the posts by tomorrow. BFN!

thomasina and shelly I got the 301 garmin. I ran with it last night and I was bummed to see my one route is shorter in mileage than I thought according to the garmin. I went out and remeasured with my car and the garmin was correct. I got it to tell the heart rate, pace and distance. Today I was toying around with the virtual trainer on it. I cant wait to try that out, it looks cool. I hope it helps with get my pace faster if I train with it long enough.

I only did bi's and tri's today. tomorrow I will do my cheetah fast video, I am dreading it since it is very hard. I decided to do two speed workouts a week to see if this helps get my times faster with the 5ks.

talk with you all later!

Hey there. It's late so I don't know if anyone will read this or not so I may copy it and paste it into tomorrow's thread as well...

Thomasina: I don't subscribe to Runner's World. I have a subscription to Oxygen that is about to run out. I thought about renewing it but maybe I'll subscribe to Runner's World instead. Would it be useful for a novice??? I am glad that you are feeling better. Don't push too hard too fast getting back in to you work outs...don't want to relapse!

Mattea: OMG, I missed your B'day some how! I'm so sorry! I see it was happy and I'm glad!:) Sounds like you got some great gifts too! You did one kick a$$ work out today! Imax + walking lunges just don't = doable in my mind!:p LOL

Karen: I like ITread better than IClimb just because I find running to be more fun and more intense than the elliptical. The elliptical is still a good work out and a great cross training exercise for runners though and the IClimb work outs alleviate the boredom of the elliptical for me. The next time I do the 20 min. IClimb I am going to do it all backwards!}( All of the work outs are the same price from what I've seen...ANY 60 min is one price, ANY 40 min is another price and ANY 20 min is a different price. That's from what I noticed anyway. You can also sign up for a "plan" where you pay a flat rate and are allowed to download so many work outs per month or whatever instead of paying per work out.

OMG OMG! I was looking at runnersworld.com in regards to JOGGING STROLLERS }( and found the race finder on there so I clicked it and started nosing around the 5k's in my state for sept/oct. There is a race taking place about an hour north of me in mid-September that is considered a run/walk and is termed as "recreational". I am considering entering. I just emailed to find out the cost as I couldn't find it in the information I was looking at!

I am wondering though if September will still be too warm and maybe I should wait until an October race perhaps??? I am not considering anything through August because of the heat...I won't have a chance to complete the entire run in the dead heat of summer! Not to mention the fact that I need as much time as possible to get used to the darned asphault!:p

Okay, I'm done being a dork now and must get to bed...It's waaay too late now!

Karen--not a problem. glad I could help. do you have any of the Itrain work outs??

Oh, there's no way I'm going to not run. It IS nice to know that 6 week jitters are pretty normal! :) Thanks so much for all of your support - this really, really is a great group of ladies!

Pamela - I'm so glad you had a great cruise!

Wendy - I think it's a great idea to go for something in September or so. You'll do fabulous, of course, but do your first race when you're comfortable. And we'll be here cheering ya on every step of the way!

Laura - yeah, I've had that unfortunate experience to drive my route and realize that what I thought was 6 miles, is actually only 5 or 5.5. It's very discouraging, isn't it? I drive all my routes now before I run them, so I know. I would love to have the Garmin for that reason alone.

Okay ladies - have to have a proud mom moment. I just got back from an awards ceremony for DD13's 8th grade class. My wonderfully wacky DD13 won the Outstanding Choir award. She's in beginning choir, not advanced, and this is the first year in a long, long time that a beginning choir student won the award. Her teacher said that she is not even aware of how good she is, and in the competitions, the judges mentioned her specifically for her voice and her animation (she IS a character!). This is a kid who has always been in the shadows of her cheer leader step sister. Now, she's finally coming into her own. As a music geek myself, I'm so darned proud of her I could burst!

Okay, okay, I'll stop the bragging and wish all of you a wonderful goodnight!
