Good Morning Everyone.

The sun is finally shining and I don't have a run planned. It's ok, the weather man say sunny skies all weekend. Hurray for me. I'm sick of the rain.

Today on tap for me is Muscle Endurance and 30 min of yoga. I have done ME is sometime but I do remember the abs being killer. I started to read Hal Higdon's Marthon the Ultimate Training Guide and even though I'm not training for a whole marathon there is some really good info in there. Also the other book I'm reading Runnning 101 is helpful as well. My thing is I need to figure out how to fuel myslef for weight and performance. Ahhh the ultimate balance. Have fun on your runs girls.

Good Morning Ladies -

I have a question. I woke up this morning with my right foot - the top, more, feeling like there's a cramp in it, but it's not really a cramp. It hurts to walk. Anyone ever experience this? I'm not sure what I did. I know I did IMax 3 yesterday, but my foot was fine all day. How could I hurt myself in my sleep? DH isn't even here :+. I'm hoping it will work itself out while I do P90X Back and Biceps. If not, I won't be running today. ;(

Good morning Karen - glad to hear the weather is finally clearing! Enjoy the sunny day. And yes, ME Abs are tough - but they're one of my favorites. Now you're making me want to read the running books! *trots, er ah, limps off to amazon.com*

Hi, ladies!

Karen-the weather finally cleared here as well. Enjoy your sun (we're getting rain again tomorrow and Friday, boo hoo). ENJOY ME! It's my favorite total body workout..

Christine-Sorry about your foot. I've never had that happen. But I'm thinking if it was okay all day, perhaps it's a bruise-type of 'injury'. Did you smack your foot on anything yesterday (I am ALWAYS stubbing my toes on stuff, lol). Just my thought. Keep us posted.

I went to the library yesterday and requested they get for me a Christi Taylor workout, just to try it out. I'm also headed back there this morning to request all the running books you ladies have been suggesting. Thanks for all that input!

For me this morning...up early as a result of going to bed early. AMAZING how that happens! LOL. I did a 3 mile run, followed by L&G! Can I just say how much I LOVE this workout? The music, the one leg deadlifts, the ankle section, TIME FLIES! I'd like to get some upper body in today sometime, since I'll be missing my workout on Saturday (I'm taking my boys camping this weekend), but we'll see.

Have an awesome day!

Gayle

Gayle have fun camping. I hope the rain passes you by.

Christine- I have had the sore foot. It's like the bridge of the top of the foot where the bones connect to the toes. It feels really bruised. I don't know what it is but if what I describes is how yours feels it usually goes away during the day after it loosens up some. Hope it works it's way out.

Good morning runners

Karen...that is great you have the sun back. It does lift the spirits! The abs and biceps are killers in ME..Enjoy! Sounds like you are enjoying your books...soaking up all that info is a good idea.

Christine...come to think of it, I have had pain on the top of my foot before. But it didn't hurt to walk and was gone in a few hours...hope your pains goes quickly too.

Gayle...I agree about L&G, it is a great workout. Camping with the boys sounds fun...:)

Pamela...my toe is lots better. The speedwork was tough as I am still feeling the 20 miler...:)..Looks like our rain forecast has turned to cloudy, which means humid...yuk...Hope you enjoyed PUB yesterday!

Elaine...glad you had fun in Santa Cruz! Sounds like you had a great workout yesterday.

Kathy...I am sorry about the injury. I know how that feels...wishing you a speedy recovery and keep us posted...:)

Shelly...sometimes I have those days...:)..you did great pushing yourself for 8 miles. An easy week would be a good idea..I saw your pics last night...you look great!!! I am feeling S&H legs today...:)

I am doing P90X Shoulders & Arms, abs and a 5 mile run

Enjoy your day...:)

Good Morning!!

Christine, Thanks SO VERY MUCH for the martial arts info. I'm going to start checking around very soon. Aches and pains seem to be par for the course when it comes to running. I say just rest it a bit if it doesn't work itself out.

Shelly, I noticed your avatar pic and agree with Carole. You look great. Are there more pictures somewhere?

Karen, Glad you don't have rain today. It's beautiful here today also. I LOVE this time of year!

Carole, I did have a good workout yesterday. The way I can tell is by how hard I slept last night and I'm a tad bit sore today.

Wendy, How did Joey's b'day party go? Good job on the running. I'm looking forward to the day when you are telling us about the 5K you signed up for and ran and then the 10K and then the 1/2 and then the........

Good morning to everyone else, Thomasina (MIA again), Sarah (she's been a stranger here too), Barb, Pamela, Mattea, Amy, Kathy, Gayle, who else????

Today I'll do PUB and 60 minutes on the elliptical.

Hope you all have a great day and an energizing workout!

Hi everyone,

Today is a rest day for me. Yesterday I did some walking and a kickbox tape and a little lower body work. But I'm not really feeling recovered from my last two long runs. So I am deciding to lay low for a bit until these various aches and pains in the low back and hip go down a few notches. I figure now 3 weeks before the race is a better time to lay low than closer to the time. Some ice (and I tried a cool water bath) seems to be lessening the ache, so I'm playing it safe and doing less rather than more for a few days.

Karen-- Good for you on all of your new books and enjoying researching your new project due on Oct. 14!! I have the Hal Higdon book and learned a lot from it. I'm planning to re-read parts of it in the next few days to get more info about race day logistics. As for nutrition? Great that you are trying to find what works. I am always working at it. Nancy Clark's Sports Nutrition Guide is a good resource, I think. Have fun with your Yoga + Muscle Enudrance. ME abs are hard!!

Christine-- I have had top of the foot pain and sometimes wondered if it was from my shoes? I sometimes lace up too fast and end up with something bugging my foot. I hope your foot is better by the time you read this. About ice baths: Why would dogs on a rescue mission have a lactic acid build-up in their muscles? Is it stress-related? Very cool that this is something you were or are involved in!

Carole -- enjoy your upper body workout, abs and run. It sounds fun. I previewed that P90x workout on Sunday and it looked really great. I'm looking forward to trying it out after the race. I don't want to introduce anything new at the moment.

Karen-- I hope you can find ways to stay happy during this down time. Injury is no fun. I'm sending positive vibes your way!

Elaine-- your workout sounds fun today PUB & elliptical. Are you doing the whole PUB tape or one of the premixes? I tend to like Pyramid Up and then I throw in an extra set. Sometimes I get impatient doing the whole tape and not a premix.

Shelly-I haven't seen your pics, but will look for them. Great job on your run.

Gayle -- glad you had a nice weekend with family. I like how you eased back into your workout week. It seemed very balanced!! Please share your training plan once you get it set.

Hi to everyone else who is coming by later. Enjoy the day. I need to get to Pile-On-My-Desk-Max.

Hi Running Ladies :)

I don't have time to reply individually to all but read everyone's posts.

PS- ME abs are very effective!

Today was GS back and biceps and a 6 mile run. I am tryingto convince my running friends to do a 7 mile or longer new loop on Friday. They seem receptive!

Barb, I'll be doing the entire PUB minus abs. On the Cathe upper body workouts that I've done lots of times I have written down the exercises and listen to music or whatever instead of following the DVD. I find that it helps alleviate the boredom of seeing and hearing the same things over and over again. I am also able to go at my own pace. For some reason I don't do so good with this method on lower body excpet for PLB. I think it's the low ends that she does. That's just too hard to write down!

I have P90X, got started on a doubles rotation a few months ago, got sidetracked for some reason and have not gone back to it. I enjoyed the workouts that I did but have a really hard time sticking with something that does not have a concrete goal, like running.

Judy, Sorry I forgot to say "Hi" to you earlier! Hope your day is awesome too!

Good morning everyone! Feeling pretty achy and stiff this morning, I also work tonight so I'll go pretty easy today, a relaxed 3 mile run and maybe some kickboxing.

Karen- I'm glad you found my book references useful, Have fun with ME, I just did this one yesterday...the bicep section is a killer!

Gayle- L&G is my all time favorite leg workout also, there's just something about it...the time flies! Have a great time camping.

Carole and Elaine- thank you so much for your comments re: pics.
I so enjoy seeing pictures of others that I thought I would finally figure out how to get my own avatar..I'm not particulary computer saavy so it took a while!

Barb- You are playing it vey smart with your training, I'm sure you'll do great with your upcoming race!

Happy workouts to all! :7

Elaine,
great idea about PUB and listening to your own music. This is funny, because my husband will do that with some Cathe tapes (did I just disclose that he does Cathe tapes????) and it looks to me like he's not being a good listener. But when you describe doing something similar, it sounds like being on top of the program.

Shelly -- thanks for the vote of confidence. Your pics are great. You look awesome. I love the finish line photo!

Judy--great run!
have a great day everyone.

The pile's a little shorter. Now it's Shorter-Pile-On-My-Desk-Max.

-barb:) :) :)

Christine- I forgot you in my last post- I'm sorry about your foot pain, a common runner's malady I'm afraid. With injuries it is not unusual to not feel anything until the next day. Pain along the top mostly likely indicates injury to the bones or tendons there, it could even be a stress fracture. If it does not go away in a few days you should see a podiatrist. It is possible too if your pain is localized along the 2nd or 3rd toe and is burning in nature that it is a Morton's neuroma, an inflammation of the nerve there, often caused by too tight toe boxes. Anyway, don't let this scare ya, it's likely just a tendon irritation that will disappear soon.
Take care of your tootsies:p

Well, after previewing P90X Back and Biceps I simply had to do it. So I did it - and Carole is right - it's a great workout! Then I did Amy Bento's Abs (the first segment). Different moves for sure, and I felt it, so I was happy. I've heard people say that her counting is annoying. She says "8 more", then you finish those 8, she'll say "8 more"... But after a while, a pattern appears - most exercises are 24 reps. Sometimes they're 28. So that didn't bother me. Now when Billy Blanks does it, watch out! He's not consistant at all!

Elaine - hope the info on the Martial arts was helpful. Good luck with that - sounds like a great thing.

Gayle - I love Legs and Glutes, too. It's actually my favorite lower body workout.

Karen - thanks. Yeah, I'm hoping it goes away. It was very sore during when I was walking the dogs in my sneakers, but I have a pair of flats on that are closed toed but have a strap across the instep (Mary Jane type shoes that are open in the back). And for some reason, they really seem to help. Still sore, but doing better. We'll see. :)

Judy - have fun on your run! I think I found a longer loop in my neighborhood so I'm excited.

Barb - Enjoy your rest day!!! I did tighten my laces on Monday for all of the push ups (I usually wear my laces very loose - I can slip my shoes on and off without tying them). I was fine Monday, but then I did IMax 3 on Tuesday - maybe that's it... I did go for a run, but I wore my running shoes, not my aerobics shoes. Maybe that's it? *Shrugs* Well, I'm just going to skip cardio today. Of course, I'm the idiot who decided to go snowshoeing after I sprained my ankle snow boarding (bad sprain too - forced me to stop running for a while). I'm not one who believes in resting injuries. I will today, though...

Shelly - are you achy and stiff from a workout or because you're not feeling well? Hopefully it's the former... Enjoy your "easy" run. (sorry, 3 miles stills seem like a good run to me :p)

Top o’ the mornin’ running ladies!

Yep, as Elaine said, I’ve been MIA again… My apologies for not checking in but I simply have had no time to read and post. And sometimes when I get a chance to read and post it is way late like 10pm PST and well, it may not get seen unless I start the next day's thread at that time..hmm..there's a thought. It’s just been busy for me lately and our oldest DH (16 almost 17) has now “run away”. Well, we know she’s down the road at her loser girlfriend’s house with the felon (over 18) boyfriend, and well…anyway, you get the picture; disturbing to say the least. Her father, brother, sister and I are all baffled as to why she is behaving so ridiculously, and she’s even an A/B student and still attends her high school classes. So, anyway, this unsettling issue, finishing up my online classes, working full time, working out, catering to my DH, DS and other DH, have taken up quite a bit of my time. But! Today I had an “easy” 3 mile run and upper body with Push Pull. I hate the easy 3 milers because I always feel like it was just a warm up and I’m ready to really get going when it is time to stop! Lol I’ve been able to read a bit of the previous posts from the last few days but not all of them. I’m sure congratulations are in order for those that ran in races and an over all way to go to everyone for being so dedicated with keeping on with their workouts!

Let’s see, oh yeah, I saw the post where Kathy has had the terrible volleyball accident! I’m soo very sorry Kathy, and I hope all goes well with your surgery. It sounds as if your attitude is very positive which I’m sure will lead to a very speedy recovery. Please do keep checking in her though, and we can help with positive encouragement if you need. Take care, Kathy.

Christine, I was thinking your foot pain could be from the same as Shelly (think she said it) says. I’ve had it happen if my sock or the tongue of the shoe was all funky while the laces were taught on them. It does go away, but I would seek out a podiatrist if not. Hey! You have to run that half, girl so don’t be getting injured ok?

Elaine, I ran the idea of an elliptical being added with the treadmill in the family room and getting rid of the sofa. LOL He was more worried about where he’d sit to watch the news and football, and didn’t even flinch about me adding yet another piece of work out paraphernalia in the house! Hmmm…thinking, thinking… As long as I get him a huge Lazy-butt chair then maybe it could work….(chuckling).

Karen – I too am trying to figure out the best way to fuel myself for weight and performance. Let me know if you find any good help with that, because I sure need it. Good job, by the way, your progress is awesome and your enthusiasm is infectious!!

Gayle – I love the library too! But sometimes I love the book so much and I can only check it out 2 times, so then I have to go out and buy it. Have fun camping; you are such a great mom! Oh, I never saw if you responded last week to my Bryan Kest offer….enable…enable…

Carole – glad your toe is better, I did see that story too. Can’t have the bionic woman getting lagged with toe pain. Have fun with the P90X stuff whatever it is…lol…Now there’s something I’ve not been enabled on yet.

Barb – oh goodness, hip and lower back pain is what I had last year and it was no fun at all. Good to take it easy and heal up so you’ll have a good run in 3 weeks. I too have to do the “pile on the desk Max” today!

Judy…judy, judy… I’m glad your friends are receptive to the longer loop. They must be really good runners to keep up with a “hill killer gal”….

Shelly – Your pics are great! And your kids! Birdy and Trooper are great but Spanky is just too darn cute!

Everyone else, you all rock and thanks for sharing here everyday, as this has been a good place to come “adjust my attitude”.

Thomasina :7

Shelly - for a chick who's turning 50, you're looking pretty darned hot! Yeah, I'm sure the cat calls have stopped *stares balefully* Hey thanks for the info. I'm hoping it's not a fracture, but it's definitely not working it's way out this morning. It's looser, so I think that's a good sign - but yeah, appointment with the podiatrist if it doesn't get better soon. *sighs*

Thomasina - I'll run that half if I have to drag a cast along with me. I doubt it's anything serious *knocks on wood*, but we'll see.
Glad to see you back - what is it with kids? My DD just turned 17, and she has done some really stupid things over the past year. She, too, is basically a good kid, but when it comes to boys and wacko friends... May heaven help us! I'm thinking of you. I hope she comes to her senses shortly. {{{HUGS}}}

catering
>to my DH, DS and other DH,

Holy Shhmoley! Did I say that? LOL NOOOOO, I don't have an "other DH", I meant other DD...sheesh! :7

Oh man!!! You just ruined it for me! Here I was thinking that Thomasina was some woman being able to handle two men and all that - one is sometimes more than I can handle! *grins* Yeah, I kind of figured that...

Thomasina, maybe you could do like I did and have a chair that can be pushed into a corner or something and have a rule that it is to be put back when it's not in use. Of course I've only implemented that with my children and don't have to try very hard to conjure up the look my DH would give me if I tried that with him!! It sounds like you are headed in the right direction though! And good luck with your DD. I've been there. Actually, 7 years later I'm still there somewhat!!! It's so hard to watch while stupid decisions are made and suggestions/lectures are totally ignored.

Christine, I hope your foot feels better with a little rest. I hate, hate, hate overuse injuries as much as anything else I despise.

Thanks ya'll.. Hopefully she'll pass through this stage whatever it is and not ruin her senior year next year. Uggghhh...

Christine - maybe you could try to RICE that foot and see what happens.

Elaine - LOL, yep, I suspect my DH would have a similar look, along with possibly flipping me the bird? (huh?)

Thomasina

Just sticking my nose in here to say that I admire any of you who can run successfully. I have tried it before but I think my pear hips don't want to be moved that much. I never did break the 60 minute mile. Oh well....I guess I will have to try another athletic career.
Hats off to all of you!
