Hi wonderful runners,
It's late in the day for me to check in. It seems like since DH was gone I am still playing catch up. It was a short 3 mile run on the treadmill today- very slowly to keep it a recovery run and also it is still raining here. I walked two miles first and that seemed good. Did some KPC abs at the end and have felt like an in-shape dog chasing my tail all day.
Then a dental appointment. Yuck. Not my favorite thing to do. I had a great Mother's Day though. My kids made me some adorable cards and DH and kids did a little cooking, which was a treat. So I'm feeling like a lucky lady.
I'm nervous for the half marathon and wondering what I got myself into as a novice runner here. I think it's the right thing to do, but my legs, hips are definitely more sore after those long runs and I don't know if I am pushing too hard. I am toying with taking a few days off now (D-Day is June 4) and listening to my body. Mulling, mulling, mulling.
Karen -- MM and a run sound like a great Mon. workout. It's easy to eat too much or not the right things. I can certainly relate! I'm glad you feel off to a new start.
Pamela-- I-max today after your 6-mile run sounds like you are feeling good!
Shelly -12 mile run sounds awesome. I am procrastinating on Cleanmax around here. I am avoiding Mr. Yummypants because I think I stretched a little too thoughtlessly last week and created some hip strain. But it is a great tape and I feel he loves me just as I am.
;-)
Marcia- the walk sounds very uplifting. I would like to do something like that soon.
Judy-- changing up my route is something I do as soon as I start to feel bored, which happens to me about every 3 weeks or so. I'll do a different route or backwards route, like someone else says. Recently, I come up with run plans in my car and then see if it's feasible. The safety issue is a steady concern. I think it's wise from that standpoint to mix it up. I used to do a route in early a.m. and got a bad feeling about the paper delivery truck -- and I noticed I was appearing in the same places like clockwork and then changed what I was doing shortly after that. On long runs, I have started taking a cell phone -- probably more a mental safety move than a practical one.
Mattea- good luck on your paper. I'm impressed with how you vary your workouts. It seems like you have a big range of activities you do and make adjustments based on life interfering without getting stuck in a rut. Sometimes I get into a mindset of feeling slave to my rotation plan. Glad your DH is feeling better.
Carole -- the headlamp! My heavens, woman, you are a hero to me. I am glad you got some quality sleep and feel good about the run/adventure. Amazing, amazing accomplishment! I did Core Synergistics yesterday with my husband. It was hard, but a nice change. Some of the exercises remind me of some things I was shown in physical therapy a few years ago. Ditto for the leg tape (even more so). That "Drea" participant in the tape is a powerhouse. Is she your sister?;-)
Laura -- congrats on getting first place in the race! That's terrific.
Christine -- sounds like you had a great weight workout today! That's a lot of strength you must have! I do not like the pikes so much, but you are reminding me to stick with it because I do not work hard enough at this. How was the interval run?
Amy -- how's your toe? How deep to you do your ice baths when you do them? It's interesting you notice the difference today not having one. I have tried a ice-dip, but not a bath and it did have a weird energizing, calming effect on the muscles. But the cold -- brrrrr--dread factor. It's very cool that you Christine and Elaine will meet up soon!
Have a great rest of the day everyone.
You are all helping me stay the course and think positively about the half-marathon I'm going to do (ok, that sounds definite!!)
