Runner's Check-In 05/23

Cathlete
Good morning, runners! How is everybody today (so far)???

Lots of chatting going on yesterday. Some days are easier to stay on top of it all and other days it's hard to read everything!

Workout this morning was PLB and Core Max 3. I'd really like to get outside for a run today, but with younger DS home with me all day now, it's tough to do that. We'll see what happens.

I'm still working on putting together a training schedule for myself for Marine Corps. Lots of juggling numbers and workouts, etc. LOVE IT, though!

The library called and they have The Complete Book of Running for Women (or something like that) for me that I requested! I am PUMPED! Somebody commented the other day that all this research is like school again! True, but I enjoy THIS! LOL

Have an awesome Tuesday.

Gayle

Hi Gayle (and others that follow):

I am so tired today I could just fall over. The meeting went to midnight last night and I'm not sure if they accomplished anything or not. I have my annual exam this morning so I haven't eaten or drank anything either so they can do blood work, etc. I actual don't mind my exam because I really like my doctor and I've had such great results that it's a real comfort to go and know that I'm doing the right stuff for my body. BUT, this time might be different. I'm stressed out a lot and I know work is to blame. Also, I'm tired a lot more and just totally "spent" when I get home. I'm hoping that my training now will help and I'm hoping my doctor will have other things to try, too. Anyway - enough of that.............

I have a 3 mile run today (hoping I can find energy somewhere by then).

Gayle: Have a great workout! I'm almost finished with the BFL book, so that should be coming back to you soon. :) Thanks again.

~Marcia~

Marcia- What tough hours you are keeping. I hope the doctor has just what you need to feel like you can get your energy stores back. I think sleep is in your futrue.

Gayle- I got my books from the library while you were gone. I'm half way thought the Running for Women one. Very good stuff. Your going to love it.

Today for me was a 5 mile tempo run and then 30 min of yoga. I needed that yoga to stretch out my chest this morning from gymstyle yesterday. OOOcccchhhhhh!!!!! Off to eat

Good morning runners

I agree Gayle, this is a chatty thread but I do enjoy reading thru the posts! Sounds like you are excited about your marathon training, you'll have to share your training shcedule! Reading books about running is so much more fun that school was...if I remember right!

Marcia, sounds like a rough night..hope your annual goes well and you get in your 3 miles today..:)

Karen...good job with the tempo run and like you I like Yoga for stretching out the soreness.

I'll be doing PLB standing a 6 mile tempo run and then a wonderful massage that I have been looking forward to for weeks...

Have a great day...:)

Good morning back to ya! Sounds like you had a good workout already today, Gayle!! How do you like Core Max 3?? I only have 3 Cathe workouts so far, but I'll be adding a workout here or there as I can afford to! ;-) I'm going to have a harder time getting my running in now that my 5yo is out of school & my 7yo will be done next week. It'll be back to the early morning runs or after my dh gets home. G/L putting together a training schedule, sounds like fun!

As for me, my glutes are a little sore from KickMax y'day but legs aren't too bad. I think my legs are pretty strong from running (especially hills!) & doing Muscle Max. I think I'll do Pyramid Upper body later, need to do some upper body work.

I've got to run some errands this morning so I'll work out this afternoon at my dd's naptime! (I accidentally slept in or else I would have done it early! )

Hey Marcia! I hope your appt goes well today & you get some energy for that 3 mile run! I find that sometimes when I'm tired & don't feel like doing it if I push myself a bit it gets easier & I feel more energized when I'm done!

Have a good day!

Good Morning.

No running for me today. It'll be u/b body endurance, abs and rebounder. :)

Gayle: I haven't taken my running outdoors yet because of Joey. It's tough. The only time I can do that is after DH gets home from work and I am so "programmed" to work out during the day now that I don't want to wait for DH to get home so I just go to the gym and hop on the treadmill. I am hoping to get out there on friday for the first time though as DS will be at his aunt's house. :)

Marcia: Hope your physical goes well. A meeting until midnight? YIKES! Get to bed early tonight!:) Hope you accomplish the run.

Karen: Glad you enjoy yoga so much. I am lucky I have the patience to get through stretching at all! LOL

Carole: Enjoy your massage! I am actually getting one on saturday with my mom when we go down to atlantic city for the w/e. DH and mom's bf will be golfing and we'll be RELAXING! Ahhhhhhhhh!:+

Jess: You sound like me...if I can't get my home w/o's in before DS gets up it's always pushed to naptime! Thank goodness they nap right! ;)

Carole- Ahhh a massage. The sound of that even feels good. They gave out free 15 min massages after the 5k and it was heaven. They also had this guy there to stretch you out and he was fantastic. Enjoy.

Jess- I hate to wake up late too. It puts my whole day out of wack. Have fun with PUB.

Wendy- I typically only get out of the house for one of my runs. The long Sunday family run. Other than that I'm all treadmill. I have the 3 girls who are all homeschooled so if I want to do any type of workout it's around them. I have a really good balance now but it took a while to figure out the right time of the day to get the workouts in. But of course the price I pay is that I'm limited to my outdoor runs.

Hi Ladies!!

I updated my picture trail to include pictures my DH and mom took from the Pig Marathon...if anyone is interested.

Wendy, I know it is hard to get out, like Karen said. I only get out twice a week and it seems to be working. The rest is either treadmill or elliptical. I did my entire marathon training like that. I just get up super early on Saturday so that when I get home, the kids are barely out of bed and DH is on his 1st cup of coffee.

I will do hill repeats with my training group tonight...very excited about that (really...I am)}(

I hope everyone has a great workout (or massage) today!

Of ccourse I'm intrested woman. I've been waiting or these Marathon pic's since day one. LOL I just got finished looking at them over and over and over again. You look so happy. That is what I see most of all. An accomplished, fit, HAPPY looking mommy. This gets me so excited. I didn't realize until you see the magnitude of all the people there at the start. Wow. I am looking forward to trainig for my half. Everyone looks so proud of you just like we are. Some of the photos are just prue moments in life. I just see true pride in you face. A picture can say it all sometimes.

Good morning!

Wendy, When you do start "taking it to the streets" I bet Joey would love to go along in a jogging stroller. My DD is four years old and while I don't push her very often because she's gotten so heavy, my DH pushes her all the time. Her perceptions about what parents do on Saturday and Sunday mornings are a little different than your average kid I'm sure, but she seems to really enjoy it. She has litteraly covered 100's of miles with us and we've worn out a couple of joggers! And when children's races are incorporated with the 5 and 10Ks we run she loves to participate. Just a thought.....

Gayle and others, I wish I knew that you all were interested in reading the Women's Book of Running because I have a copy that I'm done with. If anyone is interested, I'd be glad to pass it on to you. Just let me know and it's yours.......

Marcia, When you mentioned getting bloodwork today it reminded me of a story. Where I work I am subject to random drug testing. I had to go in for a test but wanted to get my run in real quick first. After a 5 mile run I ate a poppyseed bagel and did not drink enough water. I had a difficult time with the test (pee in a cup) since I was dehydrated and the rules would not let me hydrate to give the effort a fair shot. Anyway, after a couple of hours I was succesful but I got a call from the medical review officer a few days later telling me that I tested positive for heroin!! Thankfully, I was able to convince him that I am a running junkie, not a heroin junkie!

Today I'll do hill repeats and PLB and core work.

Have a great day everyone!

Oh my gosh Elaine Your kidding me. I'm glad it worked itself out.

I have to second what you said about how your kids have a little different preception of what parents do on Sat and Sunday. It's funny because my kids think Sunday is only for bike riding and picnic's with mom and dad. I love that they think that.

Wendy- The 5k on June 4th I'm doing is the first one to have the fun runs for the girls. I can't wait. I think this is the best thing I have found to incorporate what I love doing, with my kids to show them how good being healty can be.

Good Morning runners! You all are such an amazing energized and motivated group. :)
Marcia- I hope one of your blood tests was for thyroid function. You're probably tired due to your work load but it's best to check anyway. Good job on getting officially started on your training.

Gayle- I received the Running for Women book on my last birthday and refer to it often. It's a great reference.

Karen- have fun with the tempo run, I don't need to say that though, you always have fun! How nice that in your next race your kids will be participating. Those fun runs are great for kids.

Carole- you have a great well deserved massage- today I'll be doing your interval run

Wendy- So the BIG day is Friday? I'll be curious as to how you like running outside as opposed to the TM. I imagine it will open up a whole new world of running to you.

Sarah- you marathon pics are awesome! Have fun with your hill repeats!

Elaine- Hill repeats AND PLB- holey moley!! You're going to be in great shape for your upcoming 10K

Today I'm doing Caroles interval run- will probably do 6-7 miles.
I'll get in some kickboxing later too. Then to work tonight
:)
Hi to all who follow!

ShellyC

Shelly

UGH! I Just had this long reply and I lost it! GRRR!

Elaine-LOL about the running junkie vs. heroin junkie! LOL

As for running outside, it's really difficult for me now that school is out for younger DS (pre-K). I really shoot for 2 runs a week outdoors, but even THAT is going to be HARD now that all schools are ending. I think I might have to ask my mom and dad if I can bring the kids there once or twice a week so I can run outside. Or, I can perhaps arrange for the boys to play with friends in the neighborhood while I run.

Speaking of Mom....we're doing a 5K this Saturday. I'm trying to decide what to do....run it competetively to do well, or walk it with her. I guess I'll ask her which she prefers. Dad said he'd come along to watch my boys and let them check Mom and Grammy out and cheer us on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gayle

Hey All!

Today I did Low Max, Pinky's extended version with squats, lunges and various other tortures tossed in. I'm fried, but in a wonderful way!

Carole - enjoy your much deserved massage!

Gayle - don't you just love all of the research that goes into these things? I enjoy plotting out my schedule as much as I do actually doing the schedule (sometimes more, especially if what I plan hurts!! LOL). Enjoy!

Sarah - LOVE the photos! I just really love the support you have from your entire family! How wonderful! (I got a little teary eyed, I have to admit).

Marcia - hope the doc visit goes wonderfully, and I hope he gives you some tips for that stress. Sorry you have such a stressful job.

Karen - nothing like a good round of Yoga after a run - eh?

Wendy - sounds like a great workout!

Jess - how'd you like those blasts from Kick Max? I love them for a little elevation of the HR.

Elaine - what a wonderful lesson for your DD. I think teaching them early and often that exercise is simply something you do and enjoy is so invaluable. Good job mom!

Shelly - Enjoy your run today!

Gayle-I'm still in school, so I can testify that all this research is very similar, but I enjoy both, so it's just double the fun for me! I'm still waiting for my books through the library. You're planning sounds like it's going well, maybe you could take DS outside with you and run some sprints around together? No races to put on the schedule for me yet, school just let out for the summer and now I'll have enough time to get something together, I'll let you know.

Marcia-Sorry that work is so tough! I bet you're body is still in better shape than you think and I'll keep my fingers crossed for the doc and for run :)

Karen-Awesome job on the tempo run! I'm actually starting to feel GS DOMS more in the triceps than the chest. I actually did the drop set of pushups with GS BSB as well this week in order to add in more pushup work. Did the first 16/14 with one foot stacked on top of another and then the last 4/2 with one arm on the medicine ball. A nice change.

Carole-MMMMM....massage. Enjoy it after the hard work! Quick question, are you still freestyling? What kind of weights are you using for things like PLB, still 70%? Or are you just working in "maintenance freestyle"?

Wendy-Have fun bouncing around today! I think you'll find the streets a fun change, and at least more entertaining!

Jess-You and all the other ladies on here who manage to juggle being a great mom and a great athlete are really an amazing inspiration to me! You can thank the leg drills for the glute DOMS today;-) I love all of the Coremaxes, they are a fantastic addition to your ab endurance!

Sarah-Sounds like you are recovering body and mind from the marathon! Rock on! LOVE the pictures!!! Karen is right you look so happy, and accomplished (with great form even in the final stretch I might add!)

Elaine-Now your name matches the Seinfeld storyline! Too funny:7 Have fun with the hills today as well!

ShellyC-Man you work HARD lady! I also did an interval run today, but I just can't 'recover' for 2.5 min. My heartrate just gets far too low so I keep in to 2 min. max and usually no more than 60 seconds. Unless there are large hills and then I will gladly recover much longer:7

Karen-The interval run Shelly is talking about is W/U 15 min. 1 min. sprints followed by 2.5 min. recovery (10 times) then cool down.

Today was a 5 mile interval run and then Coremax "Tough Core" Premix and Stretchmax # 2. Tuesdays are usually my restdays, but I didn't do any cardio yesterday and so felt pretty great today!
Have a great day,
Mattea

Hi there.

I read everyones responses in regards to running outdoors. I'm glad to see that there is a lot of TM running and that you don't have to be predominately an outdoor runner to consider entering races. I realized today that DH is bring bikes home from his mom's and we are going to buy a seat for DS so that we can go out on weekends riding. Maybe I'll use that as an opportunity to get a run in. I can have DH ride with DS once in a while I run. Other than that I guess sat or sun mornings are my best bet in general since I can do it in the morning...If I get out there by 8 am I should be getting back when DH and DS are having breakfast!:+

Karen, I may be wrong but I swear that's what you and your family do on your Sunday run-they ride bikes while you run? The races where the kids can get involved is cool! Enjoy yours...let us know how it goes!

Sarah, I looked at your marathon pics and almost started to cry! I can't even imagine how you must have felt when you were done! What a wonderful fantastic awesome feeling that must have been! And your family...my gosh, they must be SOOOOOO proud of you! You are AWESOME! You didn't even look like you had been sweating when it was over!!!!

Elaine, I thought about the jogging strollers but from what I have seen they are rather pricey and I don't want to invest quite yet... I am keeping it in mind for the future though. If I like running outdoors I will definately look into purchasing one. :)

ShellyC, Enjoy your interval run and don't have too much fun at work tonight.:p I'll let you know how it goes on Friday!

Gayle, A 5k with your mom sounds like fun! I'd love it if I could get my mom to do a walk/run 5k with me. I'd walk it with her for sure! I don't know if I could get her to do that these days though. LOL

Well, I am finally off to do my work out.

Have a great day!:)

Christine...I recall Pinky's LowMax work out and let me say that you are one brave woman!}(

Mattea...Nice work out today! I am considering nixxing my cardio today too even though it's easy. With running still being so new and my body still adapting, I think an extra rest from cardio would not be a bad thing once in a while so u/b and abs is it for me today.

Wendy-Yeah, I was pretty sore in the lower body after the killer kickbox mishmost plus leg drills and so I decided to just go as hard and heavy as I could on the upper and then add some Bryan Kest Yoga (aka, Mr. Yummypants) and today my body was really thanking me for it.

Christine-That form of Lomax is a scorcher!!! Legs of steel!

Forgot to add Hi to Barb, Pamela, Kristi (welcome back), Judy, and Thomasina when they check in!
Mattea
