Runner's Check-In 05/11

Thomasina, Both Sarah and I love, no, worship out ellipticals! And as far as having room to put it? Well, we have an area downstairs that was (notice I said was) the designated kids TV/play area. As my workout equipment has increased (pullup tower, folding weight bench, elliptical) there are now a couple of chairs they can pull out to sit on to watch TV but they gotta put them back when they are done!

THanks for the continued enabling, Elaine :p I already have a nice fold-up type treadmill in the family room and our house is very small. I could make the kids sit somewhere else, but I just don't know where to seat DH for his news and football viewing! Hmmm... I think If I bring one more piece of workout paraphernalia into my house, I just may be booted off the show! lol One thing that usually works in cases such as this is when I remind the DH that at least HE has a garage to house all of his junk and toys! Just wait though, I'll have an elliptical before you know it! ...dang enablers....:7

ETA: to say HOWDY! to Judy! and who cares if you run marathons, 5K's or whatever or not..you run and you rock so you belong here! :7

hello everyone,

gayle it does make you want to cry thinking about your youngest going off to school. However my daughter seemed to grow up faster than my boys, way to fast. she is only four but acts like she is a teenager already.

mattea, yes she had to hop on one foot as well as do abunch of other stuff.

barb-it does drive me nuts having someone with that attitude around but I try to look past her because I love the sport of running and yes I want to improve my time but I dont feel I have to beat everyone I know. I actually stayed away from her alittle to get a break from it all.

thomasina I feel for ya on your car trouble. I am driving a piece of crap but am trying to pay off some bills before getting a new one.

shelly I will do a rain dance for you and carole. we are suppose to have 6 straight days of it!!!

judy your right on taking it slow. listen toyour body and you will do fine.

thanks all for the good wishes on my 5k. Goodluck to all of you who have races also.

talk toyou ladies later!!

Laura - Yeah, the crappy part is that I drove a dang Ford Ranger XLT for 12 years and put 308,000 miles on it. Sooo, in 2003, when i retired the Ford, I bought a brand spanking new GMC Yukon XL to fit all my teens and their friends in. I only have 55,000 miles on it so I hate to spend soooo much for a repair that isn't even a maintenance deal. I just spent $300 last month for something really dumb with the windshield wiper switch thing.. awe phooey! I better quit ranting now...sorry ya'll! ;-)

Hi everyone, I'm back. I see we all want new toys and video's since I have been gone.

Elaine- I want an eliptical too. I know you and Sarah use yours a lot. I'm thinking Birthday ( September) Hubby. Eliptical!!!!!

Mattea- I do look like a pretzle. But a pretzel in fear of killing herself.

Carole- I am so inspired to run the half. I've had half marathon on the brain all day.

Christine- Great 5 miles. Your dog must be in some shape.

Thomasina- We just bought a new car. Finally, we get it Friday. Well, used but new to us. I feel your pain. The car my dh drives just couldn't make it any longer.

Christine, alot of the times sticthes come from not breathing deeply enough or taking short shallow breaths. I have gotten them in the beginning of say a 5K when I go out too fast and don't breathe right. I posted this article in the Open forum when we were discussing stitches http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/injuries/a/aa053100a.htm

Sorry about your car Tomasina!!! I do hate car trouble especially when it costs...:( Nice you got to see Bryan before...:) I agree Helen Klein is awesome!! I'll let you know too when I get more info about western States...

Judy....you don't have to join the marathon club!!! Anyone that runs can be here and are very welcomed!!!

Laura...not a relative but I have run into that "type" of runner many times...one day you will probably zoom right past her....in the last 50 feet...:)

Karen, being inspired to run the half is a really good sign...:)

Hope you are resting well Sarah...:)

Thanks Carole! Interesting article. I'm usually pretty careful about breathing (learned to be by high altitude hiking), but I could have gotten side tracked or off beat.

Tomasina - Oh jeez - that is horrible! That's a lot of money! Well, go card carded - it'll make you feel better. *winks* Seriously - I hate it when my car breaks down.

Karen...I am training for a 50K July 15th in beautiful Ashland, Oregon..:)...and will be pacing a runner 20 miles in the Western States 100 Mile Ultra Run June 24-25, where I might get to meet Tomasina!...

I really am in awe of you. You are just amazing. The milage that you cover is somthing to aspire too. I really can appreciate all the hard work that goes into your training just gettting ready for the run that I just did. I was look at the work ahead for my half and I'm thinking I can do that. One day I hope to say the same about a marathon and then so on. I know with you hear it is something that I know deep down can be done.

Now I know what your doing so I can root you on in July!!!!

Hi again,

I went to my first race today -- the annual 5K Corporate run. (I didn't participate, we went to cheer on my bil -- it was his first race.) It was amazing! There were thousands of people. How do you take off and get going when there are so many people packed into one space? The guy who won has apparently won it 9 years straight. I didn't realize how many people were involved in this type of event. It was just amazing. (I know I said that already, but I'm truly awestruck.) I remarked to my DH that I could just kick myself for all of the years I had the ability to move, but instead I chose eating and a sedentary lifestyle. What a waste! I feel so much more alive now.

While I was there, I though of all of you, and I thought, "Wow, no wonder this is so addictive." When else in life do you have so many people come together with such positive attitudes just to cheer each other on? Did I say it was amazing? :)

Good night,
Pamela
