Runner Check in 5-21

Hi Elaine,

Ditto on the "sheesh" about the hour.

I was trying to say that there is chaptering, so you can push the fast-forward/or skip chapter-button on the DVD control and get to the next exercise. So there's not a menu for chapter skipping, I just use my DVD control to skip forward...

It's definitely different stretch-wise than stretchmax or (stike me down now) Mr. Yummypants. The 2nd half of the tape really has a good series of hip-hamstring stretches that are progressive and tie into the low back in a good way for me! (I'm 43 -- and it seems like I definitely need to stretch now, as opposed to being 34 and thinking it's "nice" if I can fit it in. Maybe I am rocket-shooting into being an old coot? )

My DH did a short bit of the yoga tape today. But it is definitely SOooooo long.

I did ab ripper with DH today. Yowza! It's definitely a nice change though from Coremax.

I'm sorry I'm so late checking in!!! Busy day, but I did get up at 6:15 & went out for a 4.5 mile run. It was mainly to stretch my legs out after my 5K y'day, I didn't stretch nearly well enough since it was a busy day too!!! I didn't push it too hard but it was windy & the usual hilly route! Then came home to eat a quick breakfast & get everyone ready for church. (thankfully my wonderful dh had coffee on & muffins baking!) And my brother ended up coming late last night & has been here all day. Then we ate a quick lunch & headed to the local carnival to ride rides for a few hrs!! Man, I'm hot & tired now!!

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks again for the super warm welcome here- I love it already!! (like I need another addiction!! :p )

I'll respond to other posts here in a sec!!

Hi again, back from my 14 miler- it was tough today:eek: I probably pushed myself too much in the first half. I really need to learn to pace myself better on these long runs. Anyway, I couldn't wait to check back in to hear about the racers. What fantastic news today!

Amy- a medal for both you and your Dad? Wow how awesome is that?
What an inspirational run you had, great job!!! :7 Your family and friends must be so proud of you, as we are.

Laura- another incredible story!! Alot of people facing the adverse conditions you did would have given up. I am so impressed that you stuck it out and even PR'd!!!

Elaine- I now dub you Queen of THE HILL  You stuck it out and conquered, way to go!

Barb- good job on your 8 miles today, glad your hip is OK

Sarah- your recovery is astonishing...just like your marathon performance:7

Karen- A chip is usually a small rectangular device that is fitted onto an ankle strap. You can wear it on either leg, it doesn't matter. At the end of the race there are people who take it off of you. If they miss you be sure to take it off and hand it over. The chip will be in your goodie back with your bib and it will have instructions on it.

Great job everyone!

ShellyC

Carole- Wow on the 20 miles!!! You rock!!! Are you doing a marathon soon?? Just curious, is it your first or have you done one before?? WTG on getting it done!!

ShellyC- Did you get in that 14 miles?? That's the longest distance that I've run so far. But I'm thinking of doing a full marathon in Sept!!

Sarah- Who's Mr. Yummypants? A yoga DVD or a class?? I have one yoga DVD that I like- it's Baron Baptiste's Live yoga. It has 3 workouts on it- 2 30 min ones & a 60 min soul strength. It's pretty good! Oh, and you're doing the Flying Pig marathon?? My running buddy did that a couple yrs ago & said she loved it!

Elaine- Great job on the run, especially w/ the hills!! Hills are killer, but good for the butt/ thighs!! Most of the routes that I run are hilly (I know, and I live in the cornfields of IL but happen to live near a lot of hills!), so I can relate! Oh, and as for the weight loss. I actually started the South Beach diet a little over 2 yrs ago. For me, it was all about sugars & white flours. It was like an addiction that I *had* to break. I followed it pretty strictly for a year or so, but now that I run a lot I can *cheat* a little bit. I do pretty much stay away from the white stuff & stick to whole grains & good carbs, lots of veggies, fruits, lean proteins, low-fat dairy, etc. I feel much better when I eat healthy! I love talking nutrition, so ask away if you have any questions! And WTG on a fantastic run today too!!! WOOHOO!

Amy- Great job on your run!! That's great that you had some support along the way & WTG on placing 3rd!! And WTG to your Dad too! Oh, and just wanted to say that they had a pancakes/ sausage breakfast after my 10 mile race last weekend & got food poisoning!! It was horribly miserable!!

Barb- It sounds like you're all ready for your race!! Great job on the 8 miles!

Mattea- hope you enjoyed your kickboxing & your family get together today!

Laura- GREAT job on the half marathon!!! My first half marathon last Sept was a 2:07 so I think you did great!! Sorry about the lost bib #/ chip time though, what a pain!!

Karen- WTG on getting in a good run after your great 5K y'day!! Making sure you're eating enough/ properly hydrated is so important before AND especially after!! If I don't eat enough I'll get very light headed & dizzy (I tend to have low blood sugars anyway).

I think I got to everyone, I hope I didn't miss anyone!!! Hope you're all having a great day!

Hi Jess,
Thanks for the support about my race!

BTW, Mr. Yummypants is Bryan Kest, who makes Yoga tapes. The name came from a reviewer (not me, I swear, I swear), who called him Mr. Yummypants because he has this "way" about him and he is like a sexy human pretzl.

And as long as you are trying your hardest, well that's where you need to be and that's perfect.

The DVD I have is something like energize, tone & sweat and his hair is long.
Others here may have info on other tapes of his, but I like this one a lot.

Sounds like you had a fun day with your kids, Dh and brother!

:) :) :)

shelly thanks for what you posted yesterday about being a good mom. hearing other mothers opinions help make me feel better.

elaine good job on your 4mile race!!

Karen, Chip timers are more accurate than the guy clicking the watch since they record when you cross the start line and when you cross the finish. Since you are not timed from the start of the race but when you cross the start then starting out in the back or the front or the middle makes no difference. For long races like 1/2 and full marathons there can be several places where you cross a chip timer. I think it makes it harder to cheat since you have to cross all of them for your time to be official.

And I love Mr. Yummypants instruction when he stresses over and over that it is about how you feel and not what you look like. Thank GOd for that!! LOL! He's awesome and I prefer him over any of the many other yoga DVDs I have.

Laura...http://bestsmileys.com/signs8/3.gif[/img] That is so cool you improved your time after a start like that!!! I would have gone nuts loosing my number and chip!! Laura I use a program called "Get Smile" and you can drag and drop in the smileys, also you can add other smileys you like. This is the site http://www.getsmile.com/

Karen...my run went great as the rain and stuff had stopped. I am glad you are feeling better this time after your long run...:)

Amy...http://bestsmileys.com/textinbubble2/19.gif[/img] on you and your Dad getting a medal! That is so cool...and in front of all those people...:)

Jess...I have done 12 marathons. I am now training for my 3rd 50K as I am preferring trails these days!! You have had a busy day....I love carnival rides...:)

I rested a bit after the 20, then dug out these darn wild blackberry plants that take over! Also helped my DH clear up some branches he had cut off of our oak trees.

Elaine thanks for the info. Those little chips are pretty handy. HUH!!! I never gave that a thought about where you are in the pack and when they say go. That makes tons of sense.

Carole- I did a little gardening myself after my run. I actually pulled about 50 of the 240 green onions I planted. I used at least 20 in my dinner, dh meal, and the kids tonight. It looks like I may need all 240 of them after all. I think it's green onions for breakfast lunch and dinner.

Hi all!

Late check in for me. I've been out all day.

This morning I did the 2nd half of SS Tone It Up. I had started it yesterday and didn't have to time to finish so I finished this morning. After that I went to the gym and did the ITread 20 min. workout for the first time. I LOVED IT! It was super intense! It was flat running, hill work and interval sprints all rolled into one! Short but TOUGH! What a rush!}( I pushed myself since it was short and kept the pace with what the instructor was suggesting for speed this time. I ended up running 2 miles in 21 minutes which is an improvement for me. I was running between 5.5 and 7.0.:)

Sorry no personals today...I'm beat...off to read a bit more of the running book I picked up the other night! I can't wait to try "taking it to the streets" but at that same time it makes me super nervous....I'm such a dork!:p LOL

Good night ladies!:)

AMY! A MEDAL! WAY TO GO! I'm so excited for you! And for your dad! Great story. Wish I could have been there cheering you on! Heck, better yet, running with you every step of the way!

Laura - WOW! You improved your time after all of that?! Incredible. So impressive! I hope I only have your style and grace!

DH drank some tap water in India. (WHAT was he thinking!??!!!?) So, he's dealing with a tummy virus. Has been sleeping the whole day. Poor guy. He's doing a little better tonight, but I'd better return to play nursemaid...
