Rude telemarketers-rant

So my phone rang a little while ago. I was not near the caller ID so I just picked it up...usually don't do that!

Telemarketer on the other end, ofcourse, asks for me or my DH and I say we are not available so the guy asks if he is talking to the daughter, etc of the house. I say I am the maid, lol! It was the first thing that came to mind. So he starts to laugh and says "a maid in (insert city here)?"

I wanted to rip into the guy but I kept my cool. After we hung up I checked the caller ID and ofcourse, unavailable. I WOULD have called back to complain if I could have gotten the number.

The town I live in is not high class. It has a kind of bad rep but with the cost of real estate today and not wanting to rent, we were limited on where we could afford to live when we were in the market for a house. We had no kids so we decided we'd rather buy here than rent elsewhere. We pay less in mortgage and taxes than we would have been paying for a decent rental anywhere! We intend to leave before any of our children hit school age anyway.

So anyway...it just pissed me off. Thanks for listening!:)

Next time he calls, ask him, "so telemarketing was the best job you could get? Can you actually live off of that???? did you even graduate high school???"

BTW, if he thinks that you are soooo poor, why is he calling you asking for your money????? I don't like telemarketers, either. If I wanted your product, I would have called you!!

Wendy, I'm sorry about the bad call. I read in a magazine a long time ago that when a telemarketer calls you, just forget your manners and hang up. I also read in other reports that if telemarketers still call you even though you've told them to not call you anymore, you can actually sue them and win. (I wish I still had the links to these resources but they died along with my old computer.:) ) BUT the amount you could win in court is spare change for these big companies, so they can actually afford to keep bugging you. I had to go online and pay the state a small service fee (about $5, if I remember correctly) to keep telemarketers away for the next 5 years. Getting caller ID also helps. We still get calls from places that do surveys, so irritating when you're trying to hold down a child throwing a really bad fit...x( If it's an unknown number, I never pick up.

BTW, you look beautiful at 8 months. I'm excited for you.:)

Wendy, these are the only words you need to say: Please remove us from your call list. My husband takes any suspected tele-marketing calls since if I do, I buy things. :) Since it's usually dinnertime, he chides them for interrupting dinner and tells them to remove us and they have to!

Yes, we are on the do not call list but unfortunately it doesn't barr every call:-( ...if you purchase a product from a company or a store, they have the right to call you and I believe that places like the pba and such are also allowed to call regardless. I don't know where this guy was calling from though...he ofcourse didn't tell me and dummy me didn't ask! lol

When I get a telemarketer, as soon as they say who they are, I say, "I'm not interested" and hang up before they get a chance to say anything else. And if anyone mispronounces my last name, I know it's someone who doesn't know me and I say I'm not there. It's a doozy of a last name and, unless you're Polish, you'll not be able to figure it out by sight.

Wendy you just reminded me of one Seinfeld episode where a telemarketer interrumpts Jerry. The dialogue was something like this...

******************************************************
From Seinfeld:

Jerry: "Hello."

Telemarketer: "Are you interested in so, so and so?" (I don't remember what it was exactly I think it was changing his long distance service provider)

Jerry: "Um, you know what? I'm busy right now could you give me your home number so I can call you back later?"

Telemarketer: "Um, I don't think I can do that sir."

Jerry: "I guess you don't want people calling you at home unexpectedly huh?"

Telemarketer: "I guess so."

Jerry: "Well now you now how I FEEL!!!!!!" (Jerry hangs up)

*************************************************

LOL! :7

I know the feeling wendy. First they intrude on your life by calling you, then have the nerve to be rude!

I used to be pretty nice and listen to them then say sorry, not interested. Then I got a call once, listened to the speel and said sorry, not interested and the guy says ok BITCH! OMG! I was fit to be tied. I tried to find out the call back number (wasn't on my caller ID). I was ready to drive to where ever this guy was and find his boss. After that I just hang up immediately when I know it's a telemarketer.

I just automatically say "please put me on your no-call list." That shuts them up right away (and legally, they have to take you off their list, but that only lasts for 2 years, not forever). Saying anything else ususlly just keeps them going on, and on, and on, trying to find a way to get to you. And just saying "I'm not interested" doesn't get you off their lists.

Cute Rose! (BTW, sooo happy to hear you are coming now!) The thing I dislike about telemarketers is when they hang up on ME when I say I am not interseted. That is sooo rude!

Aww Wendy! Telemarketers are such pains! I like your, "I'm the maid" comment. I'm usually "the babysitter." I hate to be rude and hang up, but sometimes you just have to. They can just go on and on! Another thing that works is saying that my (nonexistent) DH works for the ____ company. Like when MCI calls, I say, "Sorry, my husband works for Verizon, so we already have great service."

Hey- you're really getting close now!

>BTW, sooo happy to hear you are coming now!

Are you talking about the road trip Deb? I can't come this year; I tried but I can't. Between you and me though I'm planning to post a couple of pics soon so you all can put a face with the name, but I gotta get my SO to take them and and... I'm still working on losing a couple of inches on my hips. I want to look good when I post them.:p

I live in Indiana, and a couple of years ago, we instituted a do-not-call list that I promptly added my name to. Best thing I ever did. Our do-not-call list is very strict and VERY VERY enforceable. Our State Attorney General made this a #1 priority on his agenda, and if you get a call from a telemarketer, all you have to do is contact the State Attorney General. He doesn't mess around with violators. He also doesn't mess around with telemarketers you've told not to call you and yet continue to call you, anyway. Our State Attorney General will make violators suffer!!!! That's why I keep voting for him. :7

Here's what you do with telemarketers: You ask what company they're with, then you write that down. Get the callers name, and write that down. Then, write the date and time of the call, and tell the telemarketer that you want your name immediately removed from their calling list. Tell them you don't want them calling you back again. Since you'll be getting name of every company that calls you, you'll be able to tell if someone continues to call after you told them not to. If they do, then go to your State Attorney General, and file a complaint and specify that you want to pursue legal action for harassment. Because, once you've told a telemarketer not to call you anymore, and they do it anyway, that is harassment.

Hope this helps.

Ducky, this is a perfect example of why you ask right from the beginning what company they are calling from. When they call and start their spiel, you just say, "Excuse me, what company is this again?" If they ask why you want to know, just say, "I just want to know who I'm talking to, is all." If they still don't tell you, then just say, "Well, I don't want to to engage in a discussion with someone when I don't know who he is or who he represents." and then hang up. But....if he gives you the name of the company, then gets rude with you or calls you names, you know who to contact. You may not be able to call them, but you can probably contact them online or via snail mail. Make sure to get the name of the telemarketer, as well, in case you DO need to complain.

It's time to turn the tables on rude telemarketers!!!

Wendy,

I always interrupt them and tell them to put me on the "Do Not Call List". Sometimes if they babble on for so long and I can't interrupt, I will just pull the cord out and let them continue talking themselves into a whirlwind. LOL!

Ahhhh, I remember the good old days of getting calls from telemarketers. My DH would eat them for breakfast and spit out the bones. I've never seen him so aggressive. He would turn the tables on them and ask them lots of personal questions and read the law to them and threaten them with prosecution. When he would get done with one of them, he would be calm, relaxed and in a good mood for hours, I guess like way you feel after a good workout. He was so good at it though, we never get those calls anymore. He needs a new place to workout his aggressions. Thank goodness it's biking weather! :)

Well ladies, I guess I got what I deserved as I have caller ID and DIDN'T check it before I picked up the phone!x(

I have ignored plenty of phone calls because I didn't recognize who was calling or it was an unavailable #. I will continue to do that...much easier than dealing with the loser on the other end of the line...unless, ofcourse, I am in a BAD mood and feel like taking it out on someone! }( ;) :p :)

I should have ripped into that guy....oh well...

Wendy I'm sorry that you had to deal with such an idiot. We are on the do not call list too but unfortunately we still get some calls. So when I do get a call and they ask for me or my DH, I give the phone to my 4 year old. He is hilarious and they telemarketer ALWAYS hangs up.
