Rotation - miss a day do you do double the next day?

Hi everybody:

Just checking here before I get too into my new rotation. When the day becomes extremely hectic and you can't get your workout in like you want to, do you just skip it in the rotation OR do you double the next day?

Unless both days are weight training I guess I couldn't see that it really matters, but you will need to listen to your body I suppose and if you can handle it then do it unless your body tells you otherwise.

What's your opinions???

Take care, Marcia :)

Marcia,

This is an excellent question. In my case, if I have time, I'll double up "mostly". It depends on the workouts that I have scheduled.

For example, if I was suppose to do upper body weight on Wednesday and cardio on Thursday, I'll do a shortened cardio by about 15 minutes or so and all of the weight work, totaling about an aooroximately 80 minute workout.

But say Wednesday was Cardio Kicks and Thursday was MIC, I'd ditch one video or the other, depending on what I was in the mood for, and only do one workout.

I figure when I'm on my deathbed I'm not gonna be saying, "Gee, if I had only done one more workout..." :)

I'm looking forward to reading other's answers!

Best

Personally I listen to my body. If I am not to sore I will go ahead and do the next weight rotation. I still make sure it is upper or lower. Not on consecutive days. I have worked it in during a week if I have interuptions in my schedule to do the next body part on weight training so as to keep up. Cardiovascular work I tend to just do a lesser amount. I feel like it is of lesser importance as to physique and strength. I just do a smaller amount of cardio and maybe make dietary adjustments calorie wise. As I do not count calories I may just watch fat intake for the day and cut starches a little more than normal. Sometimes I just think I am to tired or have to much going on and skip a whole day. It does not make a lot of difference.

Marcia, if you can do double workouts the next day, or one and a half, and your body says it's okay, then do it if that would mentally make you feel better. But there are going to be days you simply skip one, and so what? It's only one day in a whole bunch of them, and it all evens out in the end. I would say don't sweat it. There are days I feel I could do three workouts, and then there are days I don't even want to get out of bed. This is NORMAL for all of us. Listen to your body and don't beat yourself up if you skip a day, whatever the reason. :)

Hi Marcia, I very seldom double. I work out my body in splits, and if I miss a workout, I tweak the rotation. If, for example, I missed PLB yesterday and have to do upper body today, I'd do a shorter leg workout like LL followed by either CTX-UB (with lighter weights so I don't have to rest so much between sets) or C&W. Or I'd do KPC with weighted gloves for a full-body workout. Maybe it's not the kind of workout I'd want, but it'd still work out all of me and I'd feel like I hardly missed a beat. But if I'm tired and dragging, I'd rather take a rest day and just chuck part of the rotation. My knees are out of commission 'til next week, so I'm going to have several rest days 'til the end of the month.:) Hope this helps.

RE: Rotation - miss a day do you do double the next day...

Hi Marcia,

I usually just skip it and don't worry about doubling up. But sometimes I've done as others have said and tweaked things. Like if I missed a cardio day, I'd add some extra cardio in during the week, or extra weight work if I missed weight work. Or, I'd not add anything and just plain old skip it.

I probably skip more than tweak, thinking about it now. And it depends on how I feel definitely.

Not sure I understand. Why do you have to choose between missing it and doubling up? I just do the workout I missed the next day, and push everything up by one day. This happens to me a lot because projects come up at work and I have to work late. My workouts have a set order, and I always go in the same order no matter how many days I miss. Why does a particular workout have to be done on a particular day of the week?

Agree.. generally I just move out a day. Key is Listen to your body... it has taken me years to learn that rather than always pushing. I usually find I come back stronger. Occasionally I'll double up but I've got too much in my life to spend 2 plus hrs a day working out.. the kids are growing up too fast ...

Hi Marcia!
It depends on the rotation I'm doing (if it's one I'm actually sticking too!) Anyway, I usually tweak it based on how I feel. So if I'm doing a one body part per day thing, then I just pick up the extra body part the next day. Sometimes I push everything back a day, and sometimes I just skip it and move on to what was scheduled next. It really just depends on the type of rotation and how I feel.

That's funny that you asked this question because lately I have been doing this. I have specific goals (lose pregnancy weight) and am so gung ho that when I do miss a day, I have been doing this. For example, a week ago, I doubled up and did PUB + PLB (wow!). But, with a baby, I put a couple of hours between the 2 workouts.
