role model

Hi everyone, another brain teaser from Anna (Sorry - apologies beforehand !). If you could paste a picture of anyone on your fridge (it could be someones figure that you admire or wish you had, or just anyone !) to stop you from indulging in the fridge's
contents, then who would it be ?

I will start the ball rolling - I would put a picture of Stevie Nicks on my fridge, because she gives me the strength to go on through her music, and I would put a picture of Elle Macpherson on my fridge, because despite being tall, she has a great figure ! and I would choose Sarah Jessica Parker for her style !
So, spill the beans and tell all.

Many thanks

Anna

Hi!
I actually have a picture of myself and my family on the fridge. I am definitely my own role model, because I know my own capacities. If I can't be me and love who I am, then life is not worth living! And my family's picture reminds me of all the love and blessing in the universe that I ever need.
Peace,
:)

I have Spock on my refrigerator. He was the first TV character I ever identified with. I also have quotes from Viktor Frankl, the one I remember is "Whoever would give light must endure burning."

I have to say this forum is helping me big time, maybe in time I will learn to love myself. So far, I have found my journey in life quite hard, but every day is a new day and I keep on trying

Hi Anna,
See, you realize the power in you. That's beautiful!
We all have our own share of hardship in life. It's the attitude that counts.
Now explain this to me please: how can you TRY living. I think one either Does live or does NOT. We have to love life full power. We are here, aren't we? Might as well, like they say, make each day a masterpiece of our own.
More power to you!
Cheers
:)

I guess we have to make the most of each day ? I keep trying because I know I will eventually get where I want to be, which is to go to university, and do a degree, which is what I have always wanted.
Life is so short and I should appreciate it, but I wish I wasn't so darned impatient ? If this makes any sense ?

Thanks for listening
Anna

I used to do this kind of thing. Rip out pictures from fitness magazines with some "ideal" figure. It became so self defeating though and nowadays I relate more to the others here that say look to yourself for your own motivation. You are YOU and you have to like yourself. Very good advice!!! I try to always follow it.

Catheites are MY role models

Many moons ago I had a pic of Karen Voight's abs on my fridge to inspire me. Despite the fact that I am an "advanced exerciser", I never acheived them! Not too long ago, after I became a compulsive healthy eater and eliminated all the pleasure from my eating, I decided to do two things: to accept that I store body fat in my ab area and have tiny breasts, a high, thick waist and am still slim and fit and "perfect" in MY way, not the way of the fashion magazine or tv show and to eat whatever I want, in moderation! I'll never look like Karen or Cathe because I am not muscular and I have a really healthy diet that includes ANYTHING I choose to eat as long as I eat sensibly and in moderation. I have actually gained weight recently due to a bout with plantar fasciitis which means I can't run any more but I can SEE my body as it really is. Slightly heavier but still slim and fit. I have done 4 very intense Cathe step workouts this week and survived! YOU guys are my role models. Donna, who is amazing and Honeybunch and Jillybean and Aquajock, Cbelle, Mariella and my goodness there are so many new names here now! because we are real women with real bodies and we are beautiful! And DonnaH and Clare and Amy and ALL of us because we care and we try! I am forgetting too many people here in the forums but I admire each one who tries! I have been avoiding post for awhile, so sad about not being a runner anymore. But life is too short and too precious and I am healthy in spite of the foot problem and capable still, so I let running go and say hello to who knows what sorts of lower impact workouts to come! I am hopeful that in the next round of workouts she puts out, Cathe will have mercy on we Baby Boomers who, aging, have injuries which force us to go lower impact and will give us some awesome workouts in the way only Cathe can! In the meantime, I just slip in here and scan the posts and I know I am fine among you real and awsome ladies! Rock on!

RE: Catheites are MY role models

Hi Bobbi,

Thanks for your message. You are right, Catheites are excellent role models, I have only been on the forum for 2 weeks and already I have felt more inspired about my fitness goals. I have now planned a tape rotation, which is something, I never thought of doing before, and I have to say it really helps, as a motivator. At this stage I am trying not to weigh myself but already I can feel a difference in my legs and butt.
How do you cope with Cathe's videos and your injury ? Do you modify them into low impact ?

Many thanks

Anna

Hey Bobbi!

Sorry to hear of your problem...I just wanted to say that YOU are a great role model around here and PLEASE don't ever stop posting. You have shared sooo much valuable info with us all. Good for you on not giving up, lisening to your body and being the best YOU can be!!!!

RE: Hey Bobbi!

Thanks, Debbie! The funny thing is once I accepted my limitations in one area, I realized my potential in another. I find running nearly impossible but I can step my heart out and who knows what the future holds anyway! I have been doing the Classics DVD and Cardio Hits and enjoying them. IMAX and MIC are on the shelf for now. I figure when I can add them back in I may be able to run a little. That's my goal, a little running and alot of everything else. I cannot wait until the new stuff comes out in December! And of course, there are always valuable lessons to learn from adversity once you stop feeling sorry and listen to the wisdom of the ,um, universe? :D

RE: Hey Bobbi!

Hi Anna

I love your posts they really get me thinking on this subject I try to keep them real as in people I know so that I'm not surprised by any new relations. My friend Debbie she has gone through much but most especially for the fact that 4 years ago she had a hysterectomy she loves children and has always wanted them. She for me is a real inspiration.

I also love Magaret Rutherford (well known English actress in the 1950's) she became a star when most retired and she reminds me of my neighbour when I was a child. I also love Maggie Smith who I saw in The Importance of Being Earnest when it was being performed in London.

From the forum definitely Cathe's Educated Crowd this is the number one place I come to for information you are an inspiration in dealing with fitness and life.

Britney Spears! Just kidding, although I am jealous- if only we were all 20, millionaires who could afford the best trainers and cooks, and danced all day!

I have no pics of celebs, whether they're fitness celebs, models or actors, because it's kind of a lost cause. Like I mentioned above, the people in magazines have "extras" that help them look that way. I mean, I think if we had someone cook for us, we wouldn't be at McDonald's for lunch. If we had a training appt at 6:00, we wouldn't be on the couch with a bowl of ice cream watching "Friends" reruns. If we were paid to look good, we might care about that extra cookie. So, for these reasons and more, looking at fit (or thin- sometimes it's hard to tell) people would just depress me.

A lot of whether or not we go into the fridge has to do with our own willpower, but other things come into play. Obviously, just because someone has those "extras" doesn't mean they'll be thin. I realize that. Look at Oprah or Rosie (although Oprah looks great now). So things are different for everyone. If I think of another celebs body, I don't get motivated, I get annoyed, which is silly. Genetics play a big part too!

Sorry to go on- I know this post wasn't supposed to get serious! Maybe it's my cold medicine! But I like Britney's figure :)Also Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) looks great for 40+!

Goldie Hawn is nearly 57! Now THERE'S a good looking chick. Cher doesn't look bad, either, but she needs to tone down her flash a little.....it does not flatter her at this point in her life.

Hi Catheites!

I agree with Bobbi! The people on this forum provide so much motivation (especially the older and wiser of us!)Anytime I feel down or un-motivated, I think about what all the rest of you are doing and I pick myself up and get going! Right now I have "rested" for 4 days due to probably a little overdoing it with my new step tapes, but just reading this forum, I think I will get back on track later today with a S&H.

I'm in my late 40's and it's good to know that people like Bobbi, Honeybunch, and others are still going strong and I have a long working out career still ahead of me. I also store fat in my abs and genetically will never have a "six pack" or probably any flatness in my abs, but I have learned to accept that I look like I do and it's not too bad for a 47 year old!!! I can do pushups on my toes (I'm 5'1")and I work out harder than anyone I know in "Real" life, so I'm blessed with a gift that gives me self esteem and gets me up in the morning.

So all you Catheites are my role models too, as well as Cathe herself! She will eventually be in her 50's too! ;-)

Donna M :)

Well, I do have Karen Voight's photo entitled "The Sleek, the Strong" but it's in my DH's workshop now. I am not built like Karen Voight, I'm built more like a cross between Cathe and Ceedee (the blond in most Cathe videos). But it's a nice photograph anyway and I enjoy looking at it. The people on this forum are my role models too. I have made strides through advice from this forum that I would never have made without. Thanks, guys! (Nautoj, Maribeth, Marlene123, Aquajock, Honeybunch, Cocomac and many more!) -Connie

Hi, Anna, it's really strange but stepping doesn't affect my foot in the way that running does, probably because the impact is less repetitive and, yes, I modify like crazy. I am so happy to have Cathe who's workouts intensity levels rival a good run! And I realize that foot is feeling markedly better these last few days!
