Road trippers: Carry-on or check your luggage?

OK, stupid question: who is checking luggage and who is just bringing a carry-on? I usually travel light, especially for 2 days, but I'm thinking we'll all probably pack in 5-days worth of partying OH....uh .....I mean......WORKING OUT AND SUCH in 2 days and with bringing a camcorder, etc with me, I'm thinking I may have to (gasp!) check in my luggage (which I really don't want to do).

What is everyone else doing??

I'm driving so it's one big suitcase with some options of clothes depending on what we do. I always wind up feeling over- or under-dressed so I'm bringing a range of clothes and hoping the roomies will be honest when they see me getting ready to leave the room!

If I were flying, I'd check the bag. But that's just me.

;-)

I'm going to try and just pack a carry on bag. It might be tough to squeeze everything in though. I'm going to try! :p

Hmmmm...it may not be possible though.

Shelley, do you get to bring luggage in your cage??? ;)

I am probably going to have to check something, because I imagine bringing like 4 workout outfits, plus regular clothes, and several dozen cookies... and I gotta make sure those cookies have room to breathe!

Ok this is my 3rd reply to this thread & it won't go through!!!x(

I will be checking my luggage. My shoes take up half of my suitcase & who knows what I'll feel like wearing until I get there. So I need choices available to me. Hence, the luggage.

Personally I'm driving but let me just say if there is any woman out there who can go away for the w/e with just carry on luggage, I want her name. I'm sending the fashion police after her. }(

So, who is giving you the tranquilizer while you're in your cage? I hope they don't put you down in cargo!!!!

Tee hee.

I'm doing carry on (as I always do). I don't want to risk the airlines losing my luggage. Ladies, take note that there always is the option of them losing your luggage...

So, I'm going to travel light (good thing it's July). Just 4 fitness outfits, and clothing for Saturday and Sunday. Also, also packing my Rykas in my luggage. That will take up my suitcase.

The hotels offer hair dryers so one doesn't need to pack those...

I am going to try like hell to get all my stuff in a carry on......how big can a carry-on be?

Marla, i knew you were gonna say that about shoes!}(

Shonie is gonna need a big suitcase for all her protein bars!:+ :7

Jes,

You are allowed to take on one carry-on plus one personal item. The personal item can be a duffle bag. This may be something to consider bringing along as it will be helpful to take three outfits for Saturday....

I'm not road tripping, but since one of my checked pieces of luggage was lost overnight when I went to a conference one year (and I was stuck the first day wearing what I had on), I ALWAYS take carry on only. One bigger rolling bag, and a smaller bag that fits under the seat. It's amazing how much you can actually pack into them, even props and handouts for presentations! Especially if you get clothes that roll up easily (and summer clothes take up less room than winter clothes, so it's easier).

I'm going to TRY to do carry-on only. Aren't we allowed a purse plus a duffel bag and a carry on? I can cheat with a HUGE purse.

Purses count as one item, as do duffle bags, and you can only have two items.

I usually bring a big "tote" that I put a small purse inside (along with my personal care items, some water, snacks, etc.)

One time, I did the carry-on route, and was fine on the way there, but my big bag didn't fit on the way back (I'd bought some stuff!). They made me open it up and repack (I put some things in my tote) if I didn't want to have to check it. When I opened it up, all the folks around were gawking, trying to see what I had (t shirts and books mostly). How rude!

I'm doing a carry-on. Really bent on travelling light. Shonie and I will be arriving at PHL really late Thursday night. I don't want to have to wait for my bag at the carousel. I'll be rolling my workout clothes and sleep clothes in tight balls -- so what if they'll be crumpled, I'll only sweat and sleep in them -- to make room for my Rykas and whatever else I can think of bringing. I'll also use a bigger purse (I normally carry small ones to keep my boys from letting me carry their junk) for my camera, a big box of film and yeah... some power bars. Can't make tuna sandwiches on whole wheat while travelling.;-)

I am going to try for a carry on. I also need to look up the rules etc since I have no idea what they are. Someone told me you couldn't pack toe nail clippers?. I should do that so I can start to figure out what to pack and how much I can get in there. How big can a carry on be? :)

Someone told me
>you couldn't pack toe nail clippers?.

If they have a file on, they will make you break the file part off (unless they just have you dump the clippers altogether). Post 911 paranoia (as if anyone can hijack a plane with a toenail clipper file! I'd be more worried about long fake fingernails!). You probably also can't take a razor, so if you'll need to shave during that time, either plan on buying a disposable upon arrival, or take a trimmer or electric razor.
