Road Trippers 3/28

Cathlete
I am definately overwhelmed with those of you who can get to all the personals....I will only be able to do personals on the weekends....but let me see - someone asked about marathons and someone was glad I was a runner....

so..I will try to be brief, I have a difficult time with brief!!!

I had a goal of a sprint triathlon this year but cannot find a place to swim so I have to put it off, I have been training for several months. I also have an anxiety disorder that because of several issues has decided to rare its wicked head and after a discussion with DH I decided to destress, plan the tri for next year so I will be able to swim when the pool opens in May and will have a whole summer of it under my belt. Instead I have decided to do 3 5ks this summer and a 10k in the fall. I have never been a runner until lately and I am mostly a jogger. I do not run fast. anyway, this will get me used to races and I love athletics and competing so this will be my thing this year. I love softball, my position is catcher, our team has not been in existance here in "ruralville" for two years and only two teams in the league. I also have the care for my grandson who is two and have diffuculty with making practice, I was also injurred because I could not see the ball and DH said, "I think you need to find a sport with a bigger ball" (giggle - my eyes are going) alas, nothing here, no volleyball, no soccer.....so to keep active I am at the age of 49 learning to run not from base to base but I am trudging mile after mile, patiently waiting for the "flying free" feeling that runners talk about. For me this is WORK!!!!! But I am enjoying every minute of it.....I think....

Happy morning to ya!!

Thursday, March 28, 2007 planned Workout for today - waiting.....not done yet - my DH is out of town this week and GS keeps waking up during my workout time.....:
Itread 10 Marathon Training plus one mile - hopefully this evening - if not I am switching with Thursday which is my Yoga day this week....

Nutrition for Today
B - WW Waffles, topped with cottage cheese, almonds, blueberries
S - wheat thins, lf cheese stick, cherry tomatoes
L - Chicken breast, salad with greens, almonds and oil and vinegar dressing, ww tortilla
S - Turkey breast, cheddar cheese, lettuce
D - Pork, couscous, broccolli, apple

Have a great day!

Goodmorning Kathy and all trippers to follow. I agree with Kathy that it is overwhelming to do so many personals, but I do read all of your posts. Ha, I'll know you and you won't know me in August. I'll be the stealth tripper.

So far this week, my eating has really cleaned up. I can't attribute this to the RT, since August is too far away to seem real yet, but I am going on a trip to WA to visit my sister in May, and that has been pretty good incentive, at least for 2 days. Wow, was that a run on sentence, or what?

Today I plan on LIC cardio blast timesaver premix plus LIC abs after work.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning!!! I did a much better job of eating clean yesterday. I only had one little cheat (some M&Ms). Today, I did Push and Pull-upper body 3sets premix. I have to teach my Piyo class this morning after the kiddos go to school.

Kathy-I agree with you and Robin. It can be a little overwhelming, but I just figure everyone feels that way and that sometimes you will have time to respond and some you won't. People will understand.:)

Robin-LOL at the stealth tripper comment.

I hope everyone has a great workout and a great day.

Beth

Hey there roadtrippers!!! Most days most of us can only respond to a few with personals or just post only what's going on with themselves. Nothin wrong with that!!! It's fun to scan down and see what everyone is up to and get to know y'all!!! So I hope no one feels pressured to respond with personals to everyone, just do what ya can and what ya feel like :7

Yesterday I did Barry's Bootcamp (BBC) Legs and Butt. I'm really liking this series of workouts. Today will be a 5 mile interval run.

Kathy- I'm in a very similar situation to you with the Triathlon training. It was my original goal this year but swimming is my big hang up and it's very difficult to get in the proper training for it.
Anyway, I'm focusing instead on my running and improving my marathon time.

Robin- aka the "stealth tripper" I've always enjoyed reading your posts elsewhere BTW! It's great that we will have so many 50 somethings at the RT. (myself included) You are obviously a very srong person, mentally and physically and I look forward to meetin you. I remember your intro post about your son (the one with Prader-
willi syndrome) I've run across this a few times (I'm an RN) and I understand that this can be practically impossible to deal with unless the environment is strictly controlled. I'm glad you were able to get placement for him. Kudos to you for all you have had to deal with and still have such a wonderful attitude towards life!

Cheryl Shakespeare- Okay, here I am so proud of completing my first marathon last Jan. You have my jaw dropping in total awe  with your numerous marathons and triathlons. I can't imagine competing in an ironman!! Where will your next marathon be? I'll be entering the Las Vegas marathon next Dec.

Bekki (ivorygorgon) I hope you can get over the intimidating feelings about racing enough to give it a go.... you'll be hooked, I guarantee it!!

NancyJ- I love Amy Bento's HiLoext workout!! Of course, nobody really compares to Cathe;-)

Tina- I don't think I said hello to you before and welcome! I got started posting on the forums when the August bootcamp rotation first came out. It's a doozy isn't it?

Colleen- You should check out Barry's bootcamp. It's the new "hot"
workout collection being discussed at the cheetah check in. It's a 5 day series of workouts, with weights and a cardio portion. And they also feature an added treadmill workout that is uber challenging!

Mona- You appear to be a naturally fast runner! WTG on your 3 mile run!

Jacqueline- keep hanging around these forums with this group and you'll find yourself getting enabled into running:eek: Do you like your training so far for being an RT? I've been in nursing for 26 yrs and still love it!

Wendy- your description of your luncheon yesterday had me drooling:9

Time to get busy all, Have a great one!

ShellyC

Good Morning Road Trippers!

Yesterday ended up being an unplanned rest day for me as I'm trying to kick this cold to the curb and didn't think it was in my best interest to tackle Body Max 2 without feeling 100%. I'm feeling better today, still not 100%, so I might end up subbing Drill Max instead (which is still a doozie). I'm in awe of all you marathoners and tri-athletes and those that just tackle 2 long Cathe workouts each day. You all must be in amazing shape! I wish I had the time to devote to fitness like that each day. My life is all about balance, though, so I'm lucky to get the time I do, but you ladies are an inspiration!! Lately I've been slacking, both with eating and working out. I'm getting back on track with working out, but I need a good kick in the pants on the eating. I *know* how to eat right, it's just so hard to do it consistently...

Heather B -- I like the idea of a "Fast" of chocolate. Just thinking of it that way doesn't feel like deprivation, rather than "avoiding" or "giving up"... Maybe I'll try a chocolate fast myself...

Tina -- How's the Aug. '05 rotation working out for you? I'm pondering doing this one, and I'd like to hear feedback from someone who's actually done it :D We just finished the study of Daniel in our CBS class (Community Bible Study). What a meaty book! Very challenging but full of great scripture, for sure!

6Swans4Me -- I hear ya, Bible Study luncheons always get me too. So much good/bad food }( So little resistance, lol!

Tracy from DE-- Hey Roomie! I'm glad YOU got to Body Max 2 yesterday, lol! I'm hoping to that one today...

Phyllis -- Hi! I'm Carol, and I live in Elkton (as Tracy mentioned, lol!) It would be fun for the 3 of us to meet up some time before the RT, too :)

I hope you all have a great day!

Carol

Good morning all! This morning I did Bootcamp, PS shoulders and then about 15 min. of floorwork for the legs (Janis Saffell), felt great!! I’m still having to modify some of the toughest high impact moves though…it’s been slow building back up after my surgeries but I’ll get there. I noticed some of you are posting what you eat every day, so think I’m going to start sharing mine because yesterday I really blew it with the eating.

Gayle, well it was tough for me to find things to eat during the Ironman because while I run I cannot stomach solid food AT ALL so during the run I use the gels and drink powerade. The only solid food I had the entire time was during the bike when I had a peanut butter sandwich, and a banana. I was also drinking that BOOST drink on the bike and also found that I could stomach payday bars which I cut up in small pieces. You definitely have to try a sprint triathlon, you will LOVE it!! That’s cool you did the Disney marathon, that one was my favorite!!

Carol, 50k races, that is impressive!! I’ve been toying with the idea of doing one of those, where did you do yours? Yes, you should listen to your pastor and do a triathlon, they are SO much fun!! Wow, I just looked at your picture and you are BUFF girl!!

Gin, that’s cool that you’ve done marathons too!! My favorites have been Disney, the Rock N Roll ones (Arizona, Nashville), Chicago and NYC were exciting because they were such huge races. My goal is to eventually do one in each of the 50 states, will have one more state done by the weekend woo hoo!!

ShellyC, good for you in your first marathon…yeah the first one is always special!! My marathon this weekend is close to home in Olathe Kansas (Kansas City). I really want to do that Las Vegas marathon, one of my marathon traveling buddies has done that one and loved it!

Kathy, hang in there about the triathlons. I know for me the swimming esp. in the lake was very scary and overwhelming and took me awhile to get a handle on but now it is one of my greatest achievements!!

Okay, I’ll check back in later with my eating, so far I haven’t eaten anything…have an awesome day all!

Cheryl

Good morning, everybody!

Kathy-GOOD FOR YOU, for finding something that works with and for you! Every year, I try something different to improve ME. 2 years ago, I took some cooking classes at the local community college, last year I started running (and now I'm hooked), this year I took up swimming. Next year, I'm thinking maybe karate???

Cheryl-I can't handle heavy solid food while running either. I don't even like the gels and power bars either. The only solid thing I ate during the Disney marathon were Hershey Kisses at mile 20. I filled up my pockets in my running shorts and noshed on them right on thru mile 26!!!!!!!! LOL

OK....This morning was another 7 mile run. This time I just steadily increased the speed and ended up at an 8:25 pace. Felt really good on the legs to pelt it out. Then I added on the push ups from the Gym Styles AND did GS Tris. Feel like I got a great upper body workout in. Tomorrow is another longer run (8 mile hill repeats) and then 2 slower days before Sunday’s long run. Anybody have a treadmill workout that includes hill repeats? If not, I’m going to try to make one up myself. ANYWAY……………

While I'm really enjoying my training and my runs, I'm looking forward, honestly, to being able to run when I WANT to, as opposed to following a tight training schedule. I just keep telling myself that the taper is coming SOON! LOL

BBL Have an AWESOME DAY!

Gayle

Hi Roadtrippers

Kathy...swimming would be the toughest part of tri training for me too. I do live near 2 lakes!...:)

Robin...have fun with LIC. Good job on the clean eating...mine was awful yesterday...

Shelly...enjoy your speedy interval run today!

Tina...wow! that week 3 workout looks way tough....I don't like those burpees at all...I feel like a spaz doing them!!..:)...yes running a quarter mile counts...

Mona...good pace for your 3 miles! The BBC's are fairly intense endurance workouts. Except for the Full Body one the others have weights, cardio and then a TM workout on each DVD. I have only tried one cardio and it reminds me of PlyoX but not as long as that.

Emily...welcome! It'll be nice getting to know you.

Gin...my favorite marathons have been Humboldt, Big Sur and Tahoe as far as the view. I PR'ed in Sacramento as it is a fast marathon course but the course itself is on the streets. Not real picturesque!

Cheryl...your pictures are great!!! 51 looks very good on you...:)

Cheryl (Shakespeare)...I blew the eating with you yesterday! I did both of my 50K's on trails near Sac, Calif. "Way to Cool" was the toughest one I did...thank you for the nice compliment.

Have any of you runners/triathletes tried Sharkies while running? They are little chewy carbos I think similar to Cliff Bloks. I like them better than gels.

I am doing BBC Shoulders and Abs, floor legs and a 3 mile run and will try better at my eating today as the Cheezit's are gone...:)

Morning everyone!!

Today is CF and legs. My eating could be better, but I just love the taste of brownies:p

Have a great day!

Michelle:)

Good morning Road Trippers! I'm still "working" on my clean eating goals. I did really good yesterday until the hot rolls at work and cinnamon honey butter did me in! I'm determined to be stronger tonight though! Haven't been able to exercise the last two days with the 14 hour work schedule, but I only work 8 tomorrow, so I plan to either do "Legs & Glutes" or "Leaner Legs" plus some core work. I wish I could get in more workouts during the week like most of you, but I'm lucky to get in 4 days of solid workouts with this crazy schedule. I WISH I could be more disciplined and get up early to do my workouts. All of you early risers are my heros!

Hi everyone! I would love to post individual notes to all of you but I just don't have time during the week. Maybe on the weekends. I am reading all the posts though so I guess I'm in Robin's camp - I'll be a "stealth tripper" too haha!

Are you all finding that this trip is giving you new levels of motivation? My eating has seriously been a lot cleaner and I'm more mentally determined to reach my goals by August. Although if Michelle tempted me with one of her brownies, I'd probably still eat it. :)

Hope you all have a nice day.

Tess

I too will have to pass on the personals until weekends. Trying learn something about everyone along the way. I think I have "met" more people on this thread than I have in my whole life so keeping everyone straight will take some time.

This morning for me was 2.5 mile jog. Slept in too long for anything else.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Jeanie

Hey there trippers! :)

Kathy, I don't know how some folks do the extended personal shout outs. My memory isn't that good! :) I think it's awesome that you want to do a sprint triathalon. I have been toying with the idea of a tri for a while now... I did a marathon in January, and have been looking for a new goal. But my swimming is really weak. Then again, my running is really weak too (see siggy), and I managed a marathon... ;) so we'll see.

Robin, LOL - stealth tripper! You can't be that stealthy, since you're an OAL member! ;-)

Beth, that's cool that you teach PiYo. My gym calls it Yogalates, which I think sounds like some kind of espresso beverage. ;-) Yes, I'd like a Tall, soy, decaf Yogalate, no whip. :p

Shelly, have fun on your interval run! I ran some hills yesterday... in the wind... it was tough!

Carol, I hope you get back to 100% soon.

Cheryl, did you run the Disney Marathon too? Which year? And Gayle did it last year... has anyone else done Disney? It was such a blast!!! I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was wicked hot and humid this year, though. I was not prepared for that at all!

Gayle, what are you training for now? I feel like I need something to train for, but I don't know what I want to do next. Maybe another half marathon... I don't like to eat a lot of food on long runs either. But I do like the Jelly Belly sport beans. They work really well for me. :)

Carole, bummer about the Cheezits being gone. ;)

Tess, I can't say I'm feeling extra motivation from the trip... yet. It's still too far away. But I'm sure as it gets closer, I'll get a little more serious. :)

Liann... hot rolls with cinnamon butter??? *drools*

Well, let's see... yesterday I went for a short hill run after work, because it was so nice outside. And this morning I did a KPC/L&G premix. :)

Funny how we are all reading about and learning our new friends - what a time we'll have in NJ this summer! :) I am so inspired by all of you runners - you guys are great. Can I just run vicariously through you all?

Checking in real quick! This morning I got in the bonus combo of BC/ME - never done it before (even though I've had this forever!) Nice workout. Then hit 20 minutes on the elliptical to the 1st challenge of CC press play, followed up with GS C&T. Will check back later and keep reading up on all my new friends - enjoy your day all.

Lorrie

I'll be walking the Komen 3-day (60 miles) the week after Cathe's RT. Here's my webpage.

hello everyone,

I have not been able to check in for the last 2 days, my son has been cranky (i am holding him now, very difficult to type) I am still on restricted exercise due to my c-section I have been walking for 45 minutes every day, each time I am able to go faster without pain. Today I am going to start with light weights (5 and 7 pounds) I really miss my Cathe workouts as I read your posts i am a little jealous LOL I find myself watching her on fit tv :) Only 17 days until I hopefully get the all clear from my doctor to resume my workouts..my fingers are crossed.

Kathy and robin- I feel overwhelmed too!! Everyone has such great things to say.. it's hard to keep everything straight.

Mona, Cheryl, Shelley C, Gin-I have never been much of a runner..wish I could. my sister runs and her legs are so toned and lean. Any suggestions to start running?

As I mentioned the other day I am from the clearwater, palm harbor area of florida. is anyone else from that area?

Which hotel is everyone staying at?

Have a great day!!
Tracy J

Emily - I LOVE that KPC/LG combo - was going to do it this morning but then DH informed me that we're going to a family get-together this weekend. This particular part of the family is very dysfuntional and makes me crazy. Truly, the only way I can handle these is to get in a really good kickboxing w/o before going - so I rescheduled that w/o to this weeknd - HA!

Tracy - meant to congratulate you on your little one! You're so smart to take it easy right now - I remember that anticipation. After my first c-section (I had 3) I foolishly tried to do ab work like 1 week post-partum --- and learned the hard way.

Ok - now I'm late - buy all. Back soon.

Lorrie

Hey everybody. Back for a quick second to say HI. I'm cleaning out the kids' clothes that they've outgrown and I NEED A BREAK! LOL. It really piles up!

Emily-I LOVED RUNNING DISNEY! It was so much fun. We got a cold spell that weekend (Jan of '06) so it was actually the same temp in Disney as the weather that I trained in! LOL. It was the BEST first marathon I could have picked. I see that you did yours as a fundraiser for the L&LS also. Add THAT to all the people and inspirational stories and my end result was TEARS at the finish line. Crossing that line brought back so many things in me from late DH that I couldn't even talk to the paramedics to tell them I was really ok....they thought something was wrong with me! LOL

Right now, I'm training for a half the last weekend of April, and I have the Marine Corps full in October (which may be pre-empted by a first-ever marathon in my county...we'll see).

ANYWAY....sorry to ramble.

I agree with many of you. It's too hard to do personals each and every day, to each of us. But I too like learning more about everybody...a little at a time!

And to whomever asked the question....YES. This road trip has taken my workouts to a new level.

Gayle

Hi everyone! Figured I'd check-in while eating my lunch. I've got a nice salad going on with some sunflower kernals in it...yummy!:9

Jennifer, last night was GS BSB for me and man, my shoulders are screaming today! I did Drill Max on Sunday and they were sore from that. Then GS BSB just did them in!

I'm in the same boat with the personals. I'll have more time on the weekend. I'm planning on putting a picture of myself as my avatar one of these days. It'll be nice to recognize some fellow RT's from your avatars. Put a face to name kind of thing.

Imax 2 is on board for tonight. Just love that one! I think I'll torture myself and do blast #9 twice. I've done that a couple of times. Especially when I stop in the middle of the blast and I know deep down, that I could have gotten through the whole thing. For some reason my body just stops after the 3rd one and rejoins on the 5th one. I have to stop doing that! So, I make myself do it again. And the second time around I'll stop in the same place!! It's a vicious circle!

Have a good day everyone! Talk to y'all tomorrow!
