Road tripper advice

Hi ladies. Well, it's cold and raw here today, I don't feel well so I'm taking an unplanned rest day (ya' know that "listening to your body" thing) GRRRRR, and I need to think about something more pleasant. What better than the RT!?

These are a few things that I recall from '05 that were good ideas - hoping others will add on.

1. If you "sweat like a pig" like I do, you will have some
S-T-I-N-K-Y clothes at the end of each w/o - and we have 4! Take your number of w/o outfits - headband, shirt, bra, undies, pants, socks, whatever, and pack each complete set in a gallon plastic ziplock bag. That way you just pull out a new bag for each new workout, and you keep your used stinky ones together until you return home to wash (may need extra heavy duty detergent for these babies! :))

2. For the showers at the gym I found that a refill package of those disposable facial wipes worked well as full body soap. No need for separate soap/gel, cloth/puff, etc.

3. If you get in the mail intro or travel sizes of shampoos, etc - keep 'em! Again - the less stuff you're toting back and forth from hotel to gym, the better.

4. MY FAVORITE: how the whole experience lasted longer for me. I chose a new body wash with a new fragrance that I really liked - but DID NOT USE IT until the RT. Even now, every time I smell that gel, I immediately think of my wonderful time in NJ!

I'm sure our fabulous coordinators will post tips as we get near, but I need to beat the blahs today, so I thought I'd generate some fun stuff.

I'll be walking the Komen 3-day (60 miles) the week after Cathe's RT. Here's my webpage.

Lorrie -

Great tips!
This will be my first road trip so any information like this is very useful and very much appreciated!!

Thanks for taking the time to write it down!

See you in August!

Dianne

Great tips Lorrie!

I love the idea of the seperate workout clothes in the Ziploc bags. That makes it pretty easy to pack and make sure you have everything.

Love it!

Great idea, Lorrie!

Let me add one to this list....pertaining to the dirty, sweaty workout outfits. Once you wear them and pack them back in their respective bag, hang them out in the hotel room (over the towel bar, the shower curtain bar, the desk chair, etc. This allows them to dry out before you pack them away to take back home. Worked well for me in '05!

If I think of more, I'll be sure to post it!

Gayle

Thanks Lorrie & Gayle! Great ideas! I am headed out now but I'll see if I can remember any helpful hints to add. LOVE the idea of a NEW body wash! :7

Lorrie,

Those are some great tips. I would never have thought of the ziplock bags with my workout clothes! I sweat like a pig and then some!

I LOVE your idea of the new body wash fagrance also. I did that when I went to Florida, now I associate that smell with Florida. I would definitely like to associate a nice, new, fresh scent with the Cathe RT.

If you think of any other tips keep them coming our way!

Cheryl

Lorrie,

Thank you so much for those tips! I do have some questions for all you ladies who sweat. I've never worked out anywhere besides my home. I sweat profusely and need to wipe my face off during any kind of cardio or weights. Can I bring a small towel for this during the workout? Will there be a place close by where I can hang or place my sweat picker upper? LOL Or will I have to somehow attach a sweat rag to my body like a highschool cheerleader with a spirit towel tucked into her miniskirt? ;-) Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes Wendy, you can bring a towel. We all set our towels and water bottles around the perimeter of the room close to our step or area. Last time Cathe had towels available at a small fee. I can check to see if they will be available this time??? BTW, NO MINISKIRTS ALLOWED! Ha!

Mama Deb is right. OMG - I would never dream of working out without having my "sweat rag" close. For the step classes you can also put sweat rag, locker key, water bottle, etc. inside one or the risers. But most of us lined our stuff around the gym's perimeter.

And for those of you who are like me and w/o exclusively at home - you may have already seen this in the other threads - prepare yourselves. The SOUND of 105 steppers is unlike anything you've heard before - it will absolutely get you pumped, but the first time you hear it it may surprise you. (Hey Deb, do you know if the acoustics issue from last time was addressed?)

Wow Lorrie! Thanks for all the great advice! I can't wait to hear the "steppers" - I can almost hear it - music to my ears!!!:7

Yes, It does "pump" you up to hear the footsteps. Wait til you see 105 ladies sitting on the balls bouncing up & down. That tickled me so. I looked around and we were all bouncing away and with the mirrors it looked like 300 women. Plus, the bright red & blue balls were such a site. I know this is cheesy, but it almost brought a tear to my eye! Just a phenomenal feeling with that much energy in ONE room! Not to mention we are having all this fun with the best instructor on earth! :7 (Lorrie, not sure about the accoustics. I'll see if I can find out.)

Thanks Den Mother Deb :) and Lorrie. That's a relief that there's space for a sweat rag since I don't own a miniskirt! :D

While we're offering tips...

Hi ladies and Happy Easter/Passover!

On this same subject -- sweating and towels and such -- you might want to pack two or three small hand towels from your home to bring to the gym. Cathe's gym has towels that you can rent, if you like, or you can bring them from the hotel BUT would need to be careful to take them back. Last time I brought my own from home -- the same ones I take upstairs to my "mole hole" when I work out -- and they were easy for me to keep track of because I had my own color and wrote my name on them.

Just a thought! :)

I find it funny that others have experienced this "smell association" phenomenom...I remember the smell of my shampoo making me nauseated when I had morning sickness with Cecily. And to this day, other smells just make me ill due to the same association.

But, by far, a Yummy new smell to remember how great the RT is...what an awesome idea!

I will be waiting to try this out!
Denise;-)

RE: While we're offering tips...Countdown Calendar

Happy Easter to our wonderful Coordinators and fellow RT's!

Earlier today I created a count down calendar for Cathe's Road Trip 2007 - from the time we registerd Mar 23 ( 140 days) until we meet on Friday Aug 10th. I posted the count down days on the 10th of each month. BTW, Easter 124 days and counting! :p

It's in an album on my PT site which has pics of my new workout room :+:+:+

I think I posted this advice on another thread somewhere in OD, but probably worth posting again. When we do weights, go light and watch your form. During the 2005 RT, I had to stop and lighten up during a set of barbell front raise/shoulder press because my form was so poor. Even though I was clear across the room from her, Cathe was giving me "the look" in the mirror. I was afraid I was about to get a lecture! :+

Looking at the itinerary, I'm not sure how much the next one will apply. I think they may be planning on us showering back at the hotel. This is something I do when I travel for work though, so it might be helpful - pack yourself a shower kit in a small ziplock bag. Throw a small shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and bath puff in and you'll be ready to line up for the showers in a hurry; just grab and go!

RE: While we're offering tips...Countdown Calendar

Cynthia,
I am soooo jealous of your workout room!! It is absolutely beatiful and perfect with EVERYTHING you could possibly need or want when working out!! My exercise equipment is taking over our family room/guest room and it is getting crowded and messy in there!

RE: While we're offering tips...Countdown Calendar

Hi Cynthia,

Awesome workout studio!! Where did you get the Step Mat?

Tracy

???

So here is my question - are we saying that we will shower after each workout on Saturday? My skin will freak out! I was thinking of using the wipes to freshen up but even that will be hard. More than two showers (one in the a.m., one before dinner) is too much for me. This may gross some of you out - but on a cruise recently I actually just stayed in my old workout clothes, toweled off, and hung out until my second workout - I looked rough, but who cares. As far as I know I didn't stink too much?!?! :7
