Road Trip Bubble Burst

Ladies I need some reassurance. I was so pumped about this road trip. I can't wait to meet you all and cannot believe I have the opportunity to meet and workout with Cathe. I'm 42 years old, 3 kids (youngest is 18 months, 5'4" and weigh 127. I've always struggled with weight and remain self conscious about it.

My DH invited his brothers, their kids, and his father to our place during the road trip for a weekend campout. My father in law asked where I would be and I explained the road trip. His response? "Oh - you're going to a fat farm."

I'm not, am I? But this comment bashed my enthusiasm. I know I'm just a bit paranoid (KNOWING I'm going to be the fattest one there, etc.) but please reassure me! I need to get back "above the line" and get fired up again. Thanks for letting me vent!:-(

Lorrie:

if at 127 pounds you will be the "fattest" one there, it is certainly not a fat farm!! And, if it were, who cares? Go, do something fun and healthy for yourself, don't worry about the ignorant comments people make about things they know nothing about, and think of those of us unable to attend, left behind and weeping :p

Besides, it's just like a sci-fi convention right, only for fitness geeks...:)

Gee, your father-in-law sure is a nice guy... NOT! What an idiot!

The road trip is NOT a fat farm or a weight-loss weekend or anything like that. There will be people of ALL shapes and sizes there. A lot of us are self-conscious (myself included), but we're putting aside our inhibitions for that weekend and going to have a great time. And THAT'S what the road trip is about - having a great time. Meeting new people. Meeting people we know only by screen name. Meeting Cathe! And her crew! Being led in workouts by one of the most highly-respected fitness gurus ever. It is going to be a blast! Don't worry about what kind of shape you're in - none of us is perfect. It's just about having fun. :)

So tell your father-in-law... well, what you SHOULD tell him is something I can't type here on this forum. ;) }(

ETA: I just saw that you said you're 5'4" and 127 lbs - that's not fat at all! Or anywhere near! I'm shorter than you and weigh more (and I'm not a large person).

Lorrie at 5ft 4 in and 127 I would hardly say you are fat! Do not let what your father in law say ruin this special trip. His sarcasm is just ignorance and you know that the group of people here are not judgemental anyway! I am not going to be on the road trip but I am 100 percent sure no one there will be judging anyone else. Go and have fun:)

Lorrie,

I agree with the above posters. The road trip is going to be lots of fun and you meet tons of new friends and have a great time. That comment was totally uncalled for! You are far from fat. We are going to have soooo much fun!! :)

Well, if you're "fat", then I'm morbidly obese!! LOL!!

This is more of a FIT FARM than a FAT FARM. Anyone who can attempt a Cathe workout without passing out and would travel miles to willingly take THREE intense fitness classes in one day, are some amazingly strong and powerful people. No one is going to judge anyone else - we are all there to have fun and be inspired by Cathe and each other.

Tell him it's a Fitness Retreat - to retreat from eggheads like him.

I think you should do a plie jack on his head. ;)

5'4, 127 lbs. and you're fat haha. I think your FIL had a little too much to drink.

I am 5'3-5'4 and weigh bet. 148-150, what the heck would he say about me? I truly do not consider myself fat.

If everyone were your height & weight then the whole world would be fat, don't you think? Girlfriend ignore his selfish comment. Come and have a good time.

5/4, 127...puhleeeze. That's not fat, don't let yourself get down. If he only knew how strong all you women are who are going!! You should have picked up a dumbell and "accidentally" dropped it on his foot!!!! He is ignorant, you are strong, don't forget that!
Brandi:) ;-)

Thanks you guys. I know you're right and I know he'd fall flat on his face if he attempted to do, I don't know, the 1st cardio section from BC. But just to hear what an outsider's perspective is of this road trip when I try so hard to be and stay fit - it's really disappointing. Love the Fit Farm idea though. I really appreciate your comments.

Lorrie

Lorrie,

By no means is that fat, as the others have said. This is all about a shared interest in fitness and our favorite fitness, so don't let his attitude get you down.

Most everyone that I have told is excited for me, and think it's pretty cool! Especially my coworkers. My family has also been very supportive and have said that there is no way I could pass up the opportunity. It's only my husband and daughter, but they definitely know Cathe very well!!!

By the way, I think there will be people of all shapes and sizes going, and I am by no means petite. I am between 5'7" and 5'8" and weigh between 150 and 155. So, please, don't feel subconcious (sp?)!

In fact, I am more worried about making a fool out of myself if we have to do any abdominals on the ball! Last night, I was doing PUB and I have not done the abs section in a while or pikes. I fell off the ball at least once, and said to myself that I hope I don't hurt anyone next to me!!!

Keep focusing on the positive!

5'4'' and 127 is fat??? Are you kidding? You are totally within the normal weight guidelines.

Also, this is not a FAT FARM!! Tell him it's a FITNESS convention!!!!!!!

Lorrie,

I echo every single comment that was made to you regaridng what your father-in-law said to you. I'm sure that the comment was not meant to be hurtful to you (which indeed it was). I would highly suggest that you tell him how it hurt you, though. Many of us suffer from body image problems and his comment doesn't help with this at all. My mother used to tell me I was fat and needed to lose weight when I was a teenager. This comment stuck with me for years. In fact, I had a self image problem as a result of this comment. This problem stayed with me until I confronted my mother to tell her how that hurtful comment affected me. I DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO YOU.

Please tell him exactly how you feel and that you are NOT fat!

I look forward in hugging your small, fit frame when I see you next month!

Lorrayne

Lorrie, what a mean thing to say! I agree with all the others. Boy oh boy, 5'4" 127 is SO NOT fat!!! Please enjoy your trip, and you know what--take lots of pictures of all of your fit friends to show your big-mouth FIL!

x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( What a very insensitive thing to say to anyone attending whether they are thin or not OR need weight loss or not (which I do not think you do, BTW.)!!!!!!!

You just keep your head up and think of him during the kickboxing class }(

Lsass,
I can't go, and if you're the "fattest" one there, then I'm glad I'm not going. :+

How can you allow such a dufus to interfere with your excitement???

I'm sorry to say this, but what an ugly man!x( I'd like to whip his sorry butt.

Forget what he said. This is something you're going to do for YOU. Don't let his ignorance cloud your sense of self.

Pinky

We are not going to a fat farm, if fact, we are some of the most fitted women in the world, we understand nutrition, we train hard, and we also know how to relax and have fun! This man has a very low level of conciousness, and ignorance it's a real bitch! People can think whatever they want, don't let it bother you. We are going to have fun, you will be meeting new friends that are fit and are fun, just like you! poor man!
