Rita has reached Category 5 status

We all hope that if you're ordered to evacuate in your area that you do just that! There's no good reason to "ride" out a storm like that as we've all seen from the Katrina experience. Please be smart and get the heck out!!!!!!
Just Do It! :)

Pinky,
Thanks for that excellent link!! (I'm very close to Dallas as well.) It will be a very good way to track the storm as it heads closer.

Having seen the destruction of Katrina first hand, I, too, urge everyone to evacuate. Pack your car with your pets and your most cherished memories, and leave. The rest is replaceable. You are not.

It's never a bad idea no matter where you are to have emergency supplies for 72 hours stashed somewhere in your house. I live in California and we never know when the "big one" is going to hit, so we have an emergency pack in the garage where it can be easily found. I recycle the water and food every year, but between hurricanes, snow storms, tornados, earthquakes, ice storms and whatever else nature can throw at us, it's a good idea to be ready. Just a thought from a member of the Red Cross and a Search and Rescue team.

Now you all have me worried my in-laws just flew into Texas on Tuesday, I think Dallas. My Dh and I couldn't believe that they went just knowing something was heading that way. I think they felt the would be far enough inland. We haven't talked to them, but now I'm freaking out a little. They aren't due home until Saturday. From what little I have seen on this storm it's supposed to hit Galveston Friday, right?

Lots of thoughts and prayer going out to all you Texas girls and everyone else in Rita's path.

Good grief when will hurricane season be over?!?!

Dallas

Having survived four FLorida hurricanes last year we've learned it's better to be safe than sorry :)

Things are out of control here! I hear all hotels in the Austin area are packed. Traffic doesn't look too bad yet but I'm sure today and tomorrow it'll get worse!

Everyone here in Texas please stay safe! I'm praying it won't be as bad as it sounds but it's better to be safe than sorry!

(Pinky - I wish I could hear Andrew's song! How cute!:) )

Take care of yourself, Laura. Hugs to Michael. As long as we have power here, I'll be online this weekend checking my e-mail. Let's all keep in touch.

Pinky

Hey Jess, is 40 miles enough? I know nothing about hurricanes and how far inland they stay strong. I assume you will still get lots of wind and rain, but how far does that rating of a 5 go? I also heard that the tornadoes that follow can be even worse than the actual hurricane.

I hope all you Texas gals are someplace safe!!
