RIP my doggie friend

Spyro died today. Sniff. He got sick right before Easter, he wouldn't eat, very lethargic. We went to the vet. Nothing really showed up as really wrong. His white cell count was up, but nothing showed wrong on the xrays with his heart or lungs. Nothing conclusive. We went home with some antibiotics and some cough medicine for the cough that had developed when he was sleeping. He seemed to be getting better until the day before yesterday. He started getting lethargic again and not eating. He would drink, but not eat. He could barely stand up yesterday. We went back to the vet. Again, nothing REALLY wrong showing on the tests. His red cell count was low this time, and he had lost all the color in his skin. The new xrays were showing possibly something wrong with his spleen. We brought him home last night and he just laid around. He seemed worse this morning. The vet called this morning, the only other option was exploratory surgery to see what was going on. The surgery runs in the thousands of dollars which we don't have. We decided to put him to sleep this morning and made an appointment for this evening. He ended up passing this afternoon at home before we got him to the vet. So whatever it was was not fixable, and I'm glad the worst of it passed quickly. He wouldn't have even made it to surgery if we had scheduled it and I doubt he would have made it thru surgery if we had gotten that far. I'm going to miss my puppy.

I am SOOOOOO sorry about your puppy!! One of mine just had surgery and I had all kinds of horrible thoughts going on. I lost my bigger 2 dogs in 2006 within 3 weeks of each other. It's SO hard and my heart just really goes out to you :-(

Wow, I remember reading about your dog. That was fast. So sorry! Sounds a lot like what happened to my sister's cat not long ago.

Prayers for you to get through the heartache.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog Nan. At least your doggy passed away in the comfort of his home.

Nan,
I'm truly sorry for your loss and the pain you must be feeling now. I know Spyro knew he was very loved, and you did everything you possibly could for him. It is so very hard losing one of our family members (pets) b/c they really are part of the family. Please know you're in my thoughts and lots of {{{hugs}}} for you.
Sincerely,
Lisa

Nan, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Deciding when to say goodbye to a pet is one of the hardest decisions to make. Hugs to you and your family.

So sorry to hear about your dear friend. They become part of us and it is so hard when this happens. At least he was home with those that loved him. My thoughts are with you and your family.

(((Nan)))

It's always very hard to lose a pet. They are a part of the family. Time will heal your pain and soon you'll be able to think of Spyro and SMILE. :)

Nan...I am so sorry to hear about Spyro....sending {{{{HUGS}}}}. I have always referred to my dog's (young or old) as puppies.

Rainbow Bridge

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

RE: Rainbow Bridge

Oh, Nan, my heart is breaking for you. I'm so incredibly sorry. Like other posters said, though, I'm glad he got to pass in the comfort of his own home with his Mama close by. I'll be thinking of you and again, I'm so, so, sorry for your loss.
