Rest week not 'Restful'

I could use a second opinion from anyone who has done STS before.

My rest week was last week, but I got sick on day 1--just a cold virus, but it wiped me out. I was planning on doing yoga and cycling, but ended up doing nothing but Kundalini Yoga (and Shiva's Lunar Flow) because I felt so awful. I'm supposed to start STS Meso 3 today, but I don't think I'm ready. I feel better, but not completely recovered from my illness. And I certainly don't feel recharged and ready to tackle Meso 3.

I'm thinking I need a real recovery week now. Has anyone taken two weeks for recovery? Any suggestions on what I might do this week to get ready for Meso 3?

TIA,

Two weeks is a perfectly fine rest/recovery ESPECIALLY if you're getting over a cold/flu. Your immune system will thank you! :)

Thanks, Gayle! I'm wondering if I should do some weights, or just continue to let my muscles recover. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

I'd take a complete break from weights -- maybe continue with yoga or light stretching, if you feel like it.

Meso 3 is so demanding. I think you'll get much more out of it if you're feeling 100% before you start.

Good luck!

Personally, I'd hold off on the weights. Are you worried about getting major DOMs on your first week of Meso 3?

I liked your idea of doing yoga last week (love Shiva Rea!). That always seems restorative to me...maybe try a yoga practice that's a little more vigorous and see how you feel. Maybe you'll find that you don't need the whole week off.

If you are talking missing two weeks, I agree with Gayle - no weights. Nothing wrong with some body weight work if you feel up to it. You will not lose your strength gains in two weeks and your body will thank you for not pushing it into meso 3 when it isn't 100% ready. Hope you feel better soon.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, that's so sweet.:D Getting sick keeps me humble--you feel so strong and healthy and a little bug can wipe you out. And I really have NOTHING to complain about--especially in comparison to what so many people are dealing with. My Brother-In-Law (who exercised regularly and ate well) is battling cancer and fighting for his life right now. Sometimes I forget to appreciate being healthy and able to do things.:(

I was mainly worried about losing strength (and yeah, getting major DOMS:eek:), but I also know that I need to be 100%, so your replies help me so much.

You guys are the best!
