regarding the custom music

Cathlete
I have a question regarding the music. I read the blog post but I'm curious will it be instrumental or popular vocal music? I've always liked the music on all of Cathe's DVD's. Unlike other workout DVD's that tend to be more like campy elevator music, the music that Cathe picks always keeps me motivated even though I'm feeling really tired. Yes, I find myself hmming and singing along. To me the right music helps to keep me going. I'm the type of person who has to have an ipod when jogging. Anyway, just curious if you could give more information on what kind of music to expect. Thanks

And to piggyback on this question. Is the music going to be all original created just for STS? I must say that you are doing an awesome job in making this series!!

Actually the music will consist of yours truly playing the kazoo and the
pan flute. Seriously rockin' :7

Lala - Check out the latest blog entry. It doesn't say what type of music per say, but it does go into some detail about it being originally created.

It is a little premature and really hard to describe the STS music with just words. But as best we can explain.. .the STS music will mainly be instrumentals as vocals will not work in a format like STS where lifting intervals vary between only 20 and 60 seconds. There is just not enough time to build a song with vocals since the weight lifting intervals are too short.

The music will have a “rock” sound and will be very motivating and definitely will not be elevator music. We plan on using a lot of guitars and drums in the custom music the musicians are making for STS.

The music will try to capture the intensity and “mood” of the exercise shown. We want it to make you push harder and put your game face on as Cathe would say. A composer will match the music to the exercise movement and will start the harder edged music when the exercise begins and will end the music precisely when it stops. The music will then transition into the beak. The break music will be calmer and happier in nature. The way the music ebbs and flows precisely with the exercise really makes a huge difference when viewing and doing the workouts, but it is very hard to explain with just words. It is really something you need to see and hear to really understand.

I am *so* glad I'm not on this project it sounds *so* difficult for the musicians!!! (This from a woman who suffered through 4 whole years of piano as a kid, LOL) ;)

Oh thank you for responding to my post. I hate to be a bother but will it be similar to the instrumental music in 4 day split?

No, I don't think it would really be similar to the 4 day split as this was not scored to the video or the mood.

Hi I don't mean to be annoying by asking so many music questions ( I promise this is the last one), but I'm trying to get a general idea. This music concept seems to be like no other exercise DVD out there. Would it be safe to say that the music then would be similar to the instrumental musical scores done in the movies? For example fast paced during a chase scene and slow during a romantic scene? And I know that the music is going to be writen exclusively for STS but will any of it be familiar? For example the use of the "Jurassic Park" instrumentals in Kick Punch and Crunch (which my little guy thinks is so funny). This was recognizably the Jurassic Park score but it was pre-mixed with a faster beat. Or will the music just be totally and completely brand new and never heard of.

The music is just something you really need to wait and hear. There is just no way in words to describe music that accurately as different people will have completely different opinions. But the music will be custom, so it should not be something you have heard before.

I appreciate that; there is some song that I first heard while doing a Firm workout and then Burger King or some fast food place like that used it in a commercial! So I would be driving along listening to the radio and start squeezing my butt muscles and wonder why, LOL. I guess I was trained well! :+

Amy that's funny. I know, I recognize some of the songs in some of the Cathe DVD's. The Jurassic Park song really stands out because here I am doing crunches on a stability ball and my son comes running in and says "Mom are you watching Jurassic Park?" He just thought it was so funny. I think some of the other songs are on GIECO car insurance commercials too.
Anyway, thanks for the quick response. I'll just wait patiently and see. Cathe workouts are pretty much like ice cream anyway, . . I've never met one that I didn't like.:)

Ooooh! Maybe Les Claypool will be working on the score! That would be awesome! (Yeah ok, I'm sure few will know Les or appreciate the humor but I posted for my own amusement anyway....)
