Rediscovering older workouts

Yesterday, I was in the mood for some Cathe step, but I didn't want to do one of the new workouts (I have a short attention span, and don't want to tire of them too quickly!). I first thought of doing one of the workouts from the "Classics" DVD (nice, long, steady-state cardio), but the "Cardio Kicks"/"Circuit Max" DVD on the shelf next to it caught my eye, so I ended up doing Circuit Max.

I used to do this workout A LOT when it first came out, but hadn't done it for quite a while (so many workouts...so little time).

I really enjoyed it, and since I hadn't done it for a long time, it didn't seem too familiar. It's a challenging circuit workout with compound upper/lower body moves with light weights (so I still feel I can do Butts and Guts today and not overdo).

I like the music (no 'pop tunes' in this one) and the moves. Just the right amount of impact, IMHO, without over-the-top moves like 16 tuck jumps in a row or jumping off the step, and not a lot of pivoty moves (which I don't like).

The only negative about it is the very minimal chaptering. I wish the'd rechapter this one next time they have to make copies of it. I think I'd buy a "Circuit Max: the remix" with chaptering (especially if they added some premixes!).

Any Cathe 'dust bunnies' that you have rediscovered lately?

Oh Circuit Max is a fav of mine! Definitely one of the less impactful circuits so i use that when the back is bothering me. But still a challenge. I also like Maximum Intensity Strength. Has a good 30 minute upper body section for days when I split my routine. But for me nothing beats the Boot Camp/Muscle Endurance DVD - my first Cathe so I am as sentimental over it as my first valentine (is that a tear I feel in my misty eye??). Great work outs on their own, the pre mixes are great as well. Oh those three sets of leg press in ME!!

Take good care strolling and sweatin' down memory lane.

I love Circuit Max as well. Every time I do it, I always start out saying this will be easier "this time around," especially since I've been tackling all of her harder Imaxes and new videos. Well, silly me! By the end, when she's doing those torturous planks with one leg up --- UGGGGH. At least I can hold them for the full time now! Always sweating like a dog on this one and it's so much fun. Max Intensity Strength and Max Intensity Cardio are also faves of mine. If I want a super hard weight or cardio session, I turn to these old favorites!

If you have to dust one off, this is a good one. I have to admit, I would probably use it more if it were chaptered better.

I haven't done any dust bunnies recently, (unless you count CTX UB, which I can't). I just can't pull myself away from the Fab Five. However, I'm going to incorporate a lot of my Cathe's starting with the New Year. Lots of rediscovering for me :p .

Hmm, I haven't done CM in a while, I'll have to pull that one out, too. I'm in the last week of the December rotation, but I think I'm going to ditch most of the workouts and do the stuff I LOVE since I'll be starting an X rotation on Jan 1.

Step Jam is an old favorite of mine that I pull out when I want clanky music, and fun, basic step moves.

Well, you picked my workout for tomorrow! I haven't had much free time these past two weeks and I've had to cut my workout schedule in half, only doing every other day. To make up for it I'm doing mostly circuit workouts. I've forgotten all about Circuit Max until now. This will be a perfect calorie burner. Wasn't CM her first circuit workout?

Step Jam and Power Max are 2 old favorites.

I still consider a lot of her workouts to be new, just because there are so many and it takes awhile to get through all of them.

So Circuit Max doesn't seem like an oldie to me -- but it was from 2000, wasn't it? I guess it's getting old.

Kathryn:) I was in the mood for good solid stepping this morning so I dusted off PowerMax. I got a great workout, really fun choreography, it's neat to see in retrospect how Cathe's choreography has evolved over the years but she stays true to her roots and revisits older moves in surprising and interesting ways. You're right about Circuit Max, I'd buy the 'revistited' version too! :)

Take Care

I just did this for the first time on Xmas day! It's really my only 2nd "circuit/body pump" workout ever, & Drill Max was my first, so I didn't find it very challenging (DM has got to be THE toughest home workout I've ever done).

But it was a lot of fun & will definitely get some use in the future.

I love Circuit Max (I usually only do leg work in between the cardio). A couple of days ago I felt the urge for an oldie but goodie and did Power Max. It was great!

I never much used the Pure Strength Series, not even back when it was newer. Well a couple months ago I thought I'd try it and I really liked it. Now, I use it all the time. You can make up some nice CTX-like rotations with it. Each body part is thoroghly worked, but in a short enough time to add on a decent cardio workout. I think having it on DVD has made all the difference. I just never used it when on tape (fastforwarding to the desired body part was such a pain).

As I've been doing the new workouts incessantly, I decided to give an 'older' workout a try and did Rhythmic Step this a.m. I'd always enjoyed this one - but this morning it seemed more fun than ever! I think I'll try Power Max or Step Jam sometime next week!

I did C & W for the first time in months the other day. I had forgotten the fun factor that this workout has for me!:7

While you're dusting off CM - feel free to mosey over to the CK side and do the drills. I do a mish mosh of KPC through the intensity drills, KM blasts and the CK drills - and I can always feel it in my lats the next day.

I love Circuit Max. I usually begin a rotation with it when I have been on a hiatus from working out.

But I don't like the music near as much as I like the newer music.

I love techno/club mixes though.

Pure Strength series. After working out religiously for almost a year I went back to PS and I was surprised at my improvement. On CST I did almost two sets of straight legged push-ups (I did the last two reps of the 2nd set on my knees though). I've never been able to do one straight legged push-up so that was a *huge* improvement. I also lifted as heavy as Cathe or heavier and I'm upping the weights in a week or so. I think Gym Style helped me gain a lot of strength so now that I went back to PS everything seems easier.
