Recommendations on weighted gloves?

Hi Cathe (and others)!

You had mentioned that weighted gloves would be a great option for those of us with vinyl or neoprene covered dumbbells who'd like to be able to increase our weights in smaller increments for STS--just wondering if there's a particular kind you recommend? I did a quick google search and saw many different kinds, so I'm a bit overwhelmed and don't know what to choose.

Thanks in advance!

I personally love Ironwear weighted gloves. They are filled with a non-moving heavy rubber that fits around the hand comfortably and doesn't shift, and the weight is evenly distributed between the back of the hand and the palm, which I prefer. They are sold under other brand names, like Reebok, or directly from them (www.ironwearfitness.com ).

Weighted Gloves for STS

Jennifer:

You might want to wait for the Altus gloves in Cathe’s new fitness line (like the ones she is wearing on the front of the 2008 Cathe calendar). I had a pair of those years ago. They have little “sandbags” in them, and you can adjust the weight in smaller increments. You can also remove the “sandbags” to wash the gloves. I gave mine away because I found a pair similar to the ones Kathryn mentioned above. Like Kathryn, I prefer these gloves for kickboxing because the weight is evenly distributed around my hands with no strain on my wrists. However, it is my understanding that you are wanting to use weighted gloves for STS instead of PlateMates. In that case, I would go with the Altus gloves. The kind that Kathryn and I love have too much bulk in the palms of my hands to get a safe grip on a heavy weight. I have PlateMates, but I may buy a new pair of Altus gloves too when Cathe’s new toys are available for sale. I am doing everything possible to avoid buying more bulky weights because storage space is a big issue for me, and this would allow me to add another pound to my existing weights and PlateMates. Here is a link to a picture of the Altus gloves:

You may find other brands that are similar. I would encourage you to look for a style that keeps the palms of your hands free to hold weights if you want to use these for STS. If you want weighted gloves for kickboxing or other cardio workouts, I love the style Kathryn recommended.

Blessings,
Heather B.

RE: Weighted Gloves for STS

I have the Altus gloves, I use them for kickboxing and love them. Was going to try them for STS. There are 2lbs of wts total. 4 - 1/2 lb bags of who-knows-what. You just unzip and take the bags out to change wt or to wash. Plus, they don't make my hands sweat!
