Recommendation for Qigong (chi-gong) DVD

My husband is interested in trying Qigong for a stretching routine in the morning before work. He asked if I could find him a DVD. He is rarely interested in fitness DVD's, so I'd love to find him a good one. I did find one that looked good on the Gaiam website called "Qigong Beginning Practice DVD". Collage Video didn't really have anything. Just wondering if any of you are into this and would know of a good one. Thanks so much.

Thanks for the links . . . I'm hoping to see if anyone has tried any since you never know which ones are good and which ones aren't.

Try soundstrue.com - search Ken Cohen. He has several dvds for the true beginner - also a comprehensive 100 day beginner practice set with dvds and cds to learn from.

Qigong is not really stretching. It is more breathing and meditation - used to bring more Qi into the body for energy and healing. If he wants more stretch - yoga is probably the way to go.

I do both in the morning to prepare me for my day. I start with a little Qigong and do a half hour yoga session. I am an acupuncturist so doing the Qigong first thing in the morning, sets my frame of mind for a day moving patients Qi with acupuncture needles.

Enjoy!

Hi there -

I just wanted to clarify myself - Qigong is more than just breathing. You do exercises very slowly, not much stretching. But slow movements sometimes with conscious breathing to cultivate the life energy for healing. With Tai Chi, you might get a little more movement, but it is harder to learn than Qigong and it is best to learn from a teacher in person. Each single movement in Tai Chi can be used as a held position for Qigong.

I'm no expert, but practicing Qigong does really boost energy and the immune system. I've treated lots of colds, flus and the stomach flu in my clinic over the recent month or two and have not "caught" anything. Edie

Thanks so much for the information; the way you've explained it is exactly what he's looking for. It's less about stretching and more about him wanting to focus, breathe, de-stress.

My husband and I took a Qigong/Tai Chi class a few summers ago and may I say it was no walk in the park! It really took a lot of patience, stamina and concentration/focus to really reap the benefits of the Qigong exercises. In fact, the class spent about 45 minutes 'cultivating' their chi, which we then manipulated in the tai chi practice.

Who would've thought that standing still with your hands extended out in front of you for a half hour would cause sweat to ripple down your spine!

I hated it and I really liked it - does that make sense?
