Recommend a wrinkle cream, please!

I'm 40, and am just starting to realize that I have a few wrinkles that I would rather not see when I look in the mirror. I bought a few creams, but none are real keepers in my opinion.

So--anyone have a wrinkle cream they swear by? I am looking for something to apply by my eye area, and my forehead (between my eyes)

Thanks!

Olay Regenerist. Tied for #1 in a Consumer Reports study. The other cream was by Lancombe--can't remember the line b/c it was twice as much as Regenerist & rated the same.

Oil of Olay, go on line & speak to a rep, they will tell you whatis best. Also, it might be time for botox:7

I have tried all kinds of creams and Olay works the best. For anything stronger you need to see a doctor.

I like the L'oreal Wrinkle De-Crease. I tried the Oil of Olay Regererist and I had a lot of problem with peeling skin....which was almost as bad as the wrinkles! I am 40 as well...It may just depend on how sensitive your skin is and mine tends to dry out very easily.

Good luck in your search!

Artistry by Alitcor. I got my Mom turned onto last summer. Their eye cream, she uses all over and it works.

I tried Regenerist but have seen better results with the Neutrogena retinol products. You could also use ROC, the French line, with the same ingredient and an excellent rep in Europe. I use the serum during the day, no dry skin anywhere, and the night cream and eye cream at night.

The most important thing is to look at the active ingredient in the product and research it, make sure that it has a purpose, that it has proven itself to actually get results, and that these results are what you want. There are so many different ingredients out there: Q10, vit c, copper, hyaluronic acid, retinol, etc.

Browse More magazine and Vogue, etc and read up on all the latest in skin treatments. Then buy the product you can afford that has those successful age-fighting ingredients. The mags may focus on the Dior products that go for over $100 an ounce. We don't need to spend that much!

It wasn't clear to me what the active ingredient of Regenerist was, although I like their thick night cream for when my skin is acting up and needs suffocating with moisture, so I chose to focus on the wrinkle visibility reduction properties of retinol. I am pleased with the results.

Before you invest in any products, I really recommend reading the book _The Skin Type Solution_ by dermatologist Leslie Baumann, which recently came out in paperback.

In the book, she has you take a simple test to determine which one of sixteen skin types you might be, and then she recommends very specific products and regimens for making the best of your skin type. She also explains that many of us use products that aren't doing any good because they are not right for our particular skin type.

Before I bought the book a couple of years ago (when it first came out in hardback), I had been using an anti-wrinkle line that wasn't doing anything for my wrinkles. In her book, she recommends retinol products for my type (which is why the product line I had been using up until that point wasn't doing anything for me), and as soon as I switched over to retinol products, I started seeing a major difference. In fact, many of the fine lines around my eyes and my developing crow's feet are much better now at 36 than they were before I read her book at 34.

Hope this helps!

I just got back from the dermatologist and he recommended Prevage. There is an Elizabeth Arden formula and an MD formula. I checked Ebay and you can get both.

>I have used Prevage in the past and really saw no difference
>from anything else.

It really could be that Prevage didn't work for your skin type. I really had never thought about various products working differently depending on what type of skin you have, but that book really made me a believer! I'd really check it out -- I think it's less than $10 on Amazon.

IQ Derma works really well for me. No more wrinkles around my eyes but it is pretty expensive but does last around 2 to 3 months.

Don't forget sunscreen. I think that's one of the most important things you can put on your body that will definitely make a difference in what you look like many years from now. I only wish I'd started when I was in my teens.

dukechick,
Ten years ago I could have written your post, and probably did. You'll probably think I'm nuts, but I think you should look in the mirror and, instead of seeing what you don't want there, start to appreciate what you've got. Looking back now, I see that facial lines can be quite beautiful. They take your face from that blank-canvas youthfulness and give it a personality. (Just wait until your skin starts to show signs of losing it's elasticity and you will see that lines and "wrinkles" are NOT the problem. It's the loss of elasticity, which, at 40, has not yet begun). Sure, use the creams, but be sure to enjoy your face now, when, IMHO, it's at its peak.

Some of the recommended sunscreens from the doctor are:
Ombrelle # 60
Neutrogena Heliosol #57
Blue Lizard #30
Elta Block #30
Elta Gold UV Facial
The last one costs about $20 and can be used after your daily moisturizer.

I agree with Nancy - it's not so much the wrinkles, it the sagging and loss of elasticity that really bothers me - especially my neck! It started around age 43 and three years later I really hate the way I look! I have tried every cream/lotion/serum from drugstore brands to high end, and I don't think there is anything that will really fix that. I think you can smooth out wrinkles with what you put on your face (to some degree) but I notice that all firming potions say they give the "appearance" of firmer skin which is not the same thing as looking the way I did 10 years ago!

I agree other poster: get Leslie Baumann's book THE SKIN TYPE SOLUTION. It's very informative & there's a forum devoted to skin issues.

I'm 42 and the following 3 things have been crucial for me:
(right now i use Jan Marini products)
* Use sunscreen w/spf 30 daily on face & neck (all year)
* Cleanser w/glycolic acid, gently remove w/washcloth
* Vit. C serum in a.m., Retinol product in p.m.

HTH!
