Well, I am an old lady of 50, and I guess I am viewed as such if I am that age. My profile photo as well as all the photos in my picture trail album were taken right after my birthday, and they are not touched up in any way. I have hair almost down to my waist, and I am in better shape than many women 25. I think that age is a state of mind.
I am listed on a site called onemodelplace.com, and I have gotten a few paid modeling gigs at my ripe old age.

I think you're right lori, 40 and 50 aren't old. But they are older than 30 and while you can look great at 50, you probably won't look 30 anymore. As time goes on that becomes more ok.
I'm 47 and still fret over every new wrinkle and grey hair, but that fret is superficial, it doesn't really matter very much. What matters more is the gradual slowing down...that old injury that didn't used to bother me so much, the fact that I need reading glasses or the page is blurry, things like these that I can't fix with diet and exercise. And the fact too that our lifetime is limited. It seems like most fortunate people can live into their 80's. If you make it into your 90's you've lived longer than most. If you have the misfortune of dying in your 70's you've died pretty young. At this point in time, it seems that most people die in their 80's. It used to be younger, it will be older in the future. I think about these things more than how I will look when I'm 77, even thought I'm hoping to look pretty darn good ;-)

I just had to reply....I am not offended, I totally understand your post. I was sitting in church the other day and looking around at the mostly 40, 50, 60+ women in there. ALL of them had short hair. My mom is almost 60 and she has short hair. I have hair just like yours and I love...well, most of the time...it has it's frizzy moments! Anyway, I could not help but think, "oh, my gosh, I can never cut my long, curly hair." I don't want to!!! I want it to be long and curly forever.
I hope nobody takes offense to this. I am not dissing short hair or saying people of the age 40+ only have short hair. I like short hair, just not on me. It was only a coincidence that all of the women in church that morning had short hair. I could not help but think of how I want my hair to stay just how it is right now forever!

Sara, I'm long and curly too and I will *never* cut it. I'm going to the grave with my curls! You know, a few years ago I saw this older woman in line at the movies, she had corkscrew curls, just past her shoulders, and she was STONE GREY. And you know what, my first thought was, that looks COOL. Seriously, I have no fear anymore of being long and curly and grey in my elder years, cause she just looked wonderful!

I think you can have any kind of hair you want at any age. Consider though that as you grow older what you want might change.
I remember talking to a friend once about the way old people dress (bright polyester in general) hoping I never looked like that. We were talking keeping up with changes in styles enough to look good for your age without overdoing it and looking like you're trying too hard to look young. Then I said I will probably dress a lot like I've always dressed when I'm old, (which for me is mostly jeans... can't go wrong with jeans right?). Then she brought up a very good point. She said yeah but by then maybe jeans will be really outdated. It hit me pretty hard that my thoughts at the time were exactly what I was complaing about. By saying I will probably always do things as I did them now is placing myself right in with the ladies wearing bright polyester. Scary thought. At that point I thought I better leave the future open to changes I can't see right now.
