Hi Everyone ;o)

Question, I'm thinking about changing a few things concerning my workout regimen. I was wondering if any of you guys weight train in the wee mornings. I usually start my workout around 5:30am or 6:00.

I was wondering do you do this on an empty stomach or do you eat before attempting; say MIS for example. I only do cardio workouts in the morning, on an empty stomach, which I've plenty of energy. However, that has changed to, since reading someone post about working out on empty. Now I try to drink a half cup of oj followed by some water before I starting.

But I just wanted to know if I could maintain such a high energy level, doing weights in the wee morning, I hope this make sense ;o) thank you in advance.

Hi Teddygirl,

I work out in the "wee hours" and I've done it both ways. I really have learned to judge whether or not I eat prior to lifting by which series I'm doing and how I'm feeling in general that morning.
If I'm doing a longer workout with heavy weights (MIS or S&H) then I'll usually do my cardio first on an empty stomach, break for an am snack (peanut butter on ww toast or a ff yogurt, or a breakfast bar) and water, then I'll go into my weights about 30 min after my snack. It gives me time to set up properly, pull out everything I'll need, and "mentally prepare" for the workout.
But then there's the mornings I'll do my cardio, then go straight into the weights without stopping. I really judge it all on how I slept, if I wake up a bit hungry or starving, and how much energy I'm going to need going in to the workout. Some workouts tax me more than others.
So try listening to what YOUR body tells you. If you do your cardio and during the cooldown your stomach is saying, "okay Teddygirl, WE NEED TO EAT in here!" Then grab a lite snack before lifting, but if all systems are go, go for it and see if you have the adequate energy, stamina, etc.

It's all trial and error until we figure it out. :)

3:30 a.m. - Orange Juice

I get up at 3:30 a.m. every other day and give myself until 5:00 a.m. to workout. If I am feeling energetic, I try to do that every day, except Sundays. I drink 4-6 ozs of orange juice as soon as I wake up and then start getting my socks and shoes on to give myself a few minutes. This morning I did BodyMax and I felt fine.

Most of the time our energy level on any given morning is determined by what we ate the night before, how we slept that night and if we are healthy/sick. :D

I work out in the morning--4:30 to 5:45 usually and I'm fine if I ate a lot the night before. I can usually do cardio and I'm ok, but if I'm doing Power Hour like I did this a.m., I need a little boost first. I try to eat some fruit and drink water. Still, this morning I felt like I had no energy.:-tired It just depends on a lot of variables. If I don't work out in the morning, I will do it when I get home from work (around 6:30). I'm so good!! :-gloat LOL!

I'm up at 5:30 drink my oj,take my vitamins, I'm working out by 6 am!High energy level! If I'm weight training I drink a post workout protein shake an hr afterwards and then plan my meals for the day! I use to wake up drink oj,have wheat toast walk my dogs then workout! It took me about a week to get over that hunger feeling while working out! Your body will adjust!Your friend in fitness~~Francine

I always work out on an empty stomach when I get up early and work out first thing. I work out within an hour of when I first get up, after coffee and computer time.

I workout between 5:15 & 5:30 in the morning, I have never thought of eating and I've done this for years, I drink water during my workout and I don't usually eat until I've finished showering and getting dressed. I guess it depends on your body, some people must eat others can wait!

For those of you who work out at 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., what time do you go to bed??? How do you get up at that hour?

Lollie

I go to bed anytime between 8:30 and 9:30 pm. I got used to it when I had a job requiring me to leave the house at 6:15 am, and just kept doing it even though I now don't have to leave until 8:30 am.

RE: I am much like getinfit@38

For years I have worked out in early hours. I mainly did it on an empty stomach and was OK.

Now I am listeneing to my body more.
For example if my last meal was at 6pm the night before, I may have a small snack before my workout (An english muffin lite)
Then do my workout.
There are still days where I workout on an empty stomach.

PS I need to eat before I do body max!

I find it hard to go to bed before 10:00pm with teenagers in the house. I don't like them to be up after I am. If I go to my room so do they!

10:eek:o works Ok if I get up at 6 or 5:30.

If I am hungry, I eat fruit or yogurt while I am working out, since I don't have time to eat and then wait for digestion to happen in the morning. It works for me and just gets a little glcose in my system. If I am not hungry, I work out on a empty stomach. Good luck!

We go to bed by 9:00 p.m. My children are 6 years old and 6 months. We don't watch tv... :). Sometimes I go to sleep at 10:00 p.m. and I still get up. It is a matter of getting your body used to those times. By 3:30 a.m. I usually open my eyes and check the alarm clock - that is how much my body is used to those "unimaginable" hours. For me, it is the strong desire to workout that gets me out of that nice, warm, comfy bed! :-jumpy
