Rained on Parade

I was having such a good day yesterday, now today I noticed a rather large lump on my neck. SO I am a little concerned but it did rain on my good day LOL. Don't know if I should have it looked at or see if it will go away on it's own.

Hi Leslie! If you are concerned about it and it is keeping you from having a good day, then I would have it looked at just so that you can have piece of mind. Wishing you well! Take Care!

Hi Leslie, If it doesn't go away in a couple of days, definitely have it looked at. Don't want to scare you or anything, but my husband had Hodgkin's Disease many years ago and the first sign was a lump in his neck. His lump fairly large, though. Also, I don't know if you drink beer or not and this may sound weird. But if you drink a beer and feel a burning sensation throughout your neck and chest, get to the doctor quick. That is a sign of Hodgkin's. On my husband's first trip to the specialist, the first question the doctor asked was if it burned when he drank alcohol. Weird huh? Sure enough, it did burn. To this day, my husband doesn't drink alcohol. I think he's scared to.

I wanted to add that chances are it is nothing or it could just be a cyst that needs to be drained. After I wrote the above paragraph, I thought I might have scared you and wanted to say more. Sorry if I did scare you.

Leslie, it could be a cyst, or perhaps an enlarged lymph node, or just about anything, but I agree with the others on here. If it doesn't go away, please have it looked at. Does it hurt? Is it tender? Where on your neck is it? Lymph nodes can get very enlarged when your body is fighting an infection, long before you "feel" sick. Keep me posted, okay?

It isn't where a lymph node I do have several of those swollen on the back of my neck, this is just on the side of that boney part of my throat and yes it does hurt to push on it, it is so weird wasn't there one day and then boom there it is so big and sore. I do get worried about lumps since I do have several lymph nodes swollen but those have been swollen for years some days they will go down and some days they will be huge. But this one doesn't seem to be where a lymph node is. I have been feeling better since the stomach flu vanished here and I am sleeping better and eating better, I drink tons of water, I don't drink or smoke. I keep may face and neck clean with Cliniqe facial cleaners. so to me this is so weird and spooky.

Do you mean it's near the center, on the front of your neck, where your trachea (windpipe) is? You do have lymph nodes there, if what you're describing is where I'm accurately picturing it. Try putting a warm compress on it and see if that makes it feel better. If it doesn't go down in a few days, I'd have it looked at just to make sure. Hope this helps!

Carol is right, there are lymph nodes on both sides of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (the muscle on either side of your neck that stands out when you turn your head).

Call your physician or advice nurse if available and describe the problem. Could be related to your recent flu, but not necessarily ignorable. Keep us posted!!
